How did you choose your username?

Mine is the username I invented a bunch of years ago when I joined a forum and needed an alter ego to post under. It was partly the product of the migraine I had at the time, which included a little bit of drooling. Somehow the combination of the migraine and thinking that I should put “dragon” in it somewhere gelled into dragondrool, which my addled brain was rather amused by. I’ve been dragondrool ever since on things, and my forum friends and fellow moderators over the years have sub-nicknamed me “droolie”.

I love dragons. Your avatar is adorable!

Thanks. I’ve had it for years. Reading is what I do.

I love dragons too, and really like seeing someone use a non agressive dragon nickname….I mean don’t get me wrong, dragons totally kick butt, but it can be a bit much seeing aggressive dragon nicknames all the time.

It is more of a humble dragon name, isn’t it? Though on the forum I used to “threaten” to unleash a pool of caustic, acid dragon drool upon any pointy little heads of trolls from time to time. :)

I also have a little homemade emoticon that I used to put on my forum posts in color: ~~8=:>>>>

It’s my name, plus middle and last initial.

Best name EVUR.

I named my eldest daughter Anna and we pronounce it “Ah-na.” I thought America was the only place in the world that said it otherwise and the whole world said it our way. I was wrong. She married an Irishman, and he and his family can not say it that way even though one family member is named Kara, pronounced “Kah-rah.” LOL!

Love this thread. My username, too, is a sci-fi reference. Kaylee is a character from the tv show Firefly. The same actress was also in Space Cases, one of my favorite sci-fi shows when I was really young. Just check out that hair – http://31.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_li2v1bDkB61qaf2e3o1_500.jpg! And yes, I had wildly colored hair for almost a decade before I finally had to tone down my look for work. That’s not really relevant to this thread. I just miss having awesome hair.

I love the crazy hair! I never did anything that colorful because I’m awful for maintaining dyed hair, but I’ve gone bright red, dark blue, and various shades of blonde. Now that I have a job with a more casual environment, I’m tempted to do something crazy. :P

And yes, I love your username!!! When I was 5 months pregnant and we knew it was a girl, I was trying to come up with names, and as soon as I thought of Kaylee, it stuck. And my husband agreed immediately and there we are! It’s her middle name, although we’re calling her by it now. When she’s older she can decide which name she’d prefer to use, but I hope she likes Firefly. That Kaylee seemed like a pretty awesome role-model, being great at something that was typically a male job, but still being, Kaylee. :P

I’ve also had my hair basically any colour you can imagine. My favourites were teal (my favourite colour) and white. It was white for my graduation, and I loved it. I spent the entire night prior bleaching it with different shades/brands of bleach to get the perfect white – like five different bleaches within a ten hour period. Totally don’t recommend it, but it looked really cool (my hair was so dead/fried).

Aww, I loved Firefly! I’m still upset that it ended and laughed (in a harsh truth kind of way) when Sheldon on TBBT made reference to it “lasting forever.”

I cosplay as Kaylee from time to time, so I was curious as to whether you were a Browncoat. Good to know it wasn’t too far off base. :D

Cavo – that is awesome! You have excellent taste in children’s names :)

Roswell – how did your hair not fall out after that?! Sounds like it looked great though. My favorite hair color was Paintbox Blueberry Hill, which is actually a really vibrant purple. That was my default, with occasional forays into red, orange, blue, and green. Green was not a good look on me!

EvaGrimm – I’ve seen the whole show more times than I can count. At least it ended before it had a chance to jump the shark? Small comfort, but it’s all we’ve got.

Pyroxy – OMG OMG I must hear more about the cosplay.

Can I just say that this is quite possibly the best thing I’ve read on steepster. I love reading everyones stories!

Back in 7th grade, my dad told me I had to choose an email and I really had no idea what to choose because I knew it was going to be stuck with me forever. I ended up going with jump62359. Jump because I’m almost always on the happy, fun side :) Jumping always has ben associated with happy things so I thought it would be a good fit. 62359, well. There’s this band called McFly who I loved SO much back then, and they still remain my favourite band now. Amazing how they celebrated a decade of being together just last year :) Well, 62359 actually spells their name on a phone sooo yeah.
Happiness and Mcfly will aways be with me wherever I go. That’s pretty much my everything. Go to any social networking site and type in jump62359 and that’s probably me :)

Awesome topic!

Kamyria Mourn is a scrambled version of my real name. What began as a fun exercise became my gothic alter ego. It’s been few years since then and Kamyria has grown to be a very special part of real me.

Mine is a combination of a couple of things that my friends joked about when I was younger, the first being my height. At the time I wasn’t even 5’ tall and most of my friends were a good 12" or more taller than me. I swear there must be something in the water back home because the boys were all huge, my husband is 6’2" and he wasn’t even among the tallest of my friends.

anyway…

The second thing they would joke about is how I worked magic with computers. It didn’t matter what problem they brought to me, I found a way to breath life back into their toys. So for the last 15+ years I’ve been Short Sorceress, I think the handle fits perfectly.

ashmanra said

I like that story! I am 5’ almost but not quite 3" although everyone tries to say I am 5’2". My husband is nearly 6’4" so by comparison I look even shorter. Maybe I should carry a banana for scale…

Anna said

Oh, oh, oh, I want to know how tall everyone is now. I’m 178 cms/roughly 5’8".

I am 5’0". I was a big child, and based on my height as a toddler, my doctor told my parents I’d be about 5’8" Hahaha…I showed them.

I’m still vertically challenged even though grew a little bit more in my early 20s, I’m a whopping 5’2" now.

Lynxiebrat said

I am about 5’3. I only really notice it when I need a chair or step ladder to reach the top shelf in the kitchen.

ashmanra said

Fortunately, I have the kids around to reach things for me a lot. LOL! Only my eldest daughter, Superanna on here, is short like me. My son and middle daughter are about 5’11" and 5’10" respectively and youngest is already about 5’7".

yyz said

I’m 5’11". Both my parents were tall though so no big surprise.

Kamyria said

I’m 6’. As a teenager I was the tallest in the entire family.

I’m 5’4" and like Charlotte, I was supposed to be tall. Which is funny because my mom was 5’ and my dad was 5’7".

Pyroxy select said

I’m 5’7"…I’m really surprised that some of you are on the short side – if I ever want to keep you out of my tea I’ll just put it on the top shelves. :P

5’ was a dream i never made…i got stuck at 4’10"

No cool story here. I simply did not realize when I set up my account that the user name would be my screen name. I started to change it but since I originally came here looking for grocery store tea bag reviews, I figured I wouldn’t stay long. Then Teavivre sent me those first samples that changed everything and now I am coming up on four years. Seems pointless to change my user name now… although I really like the Tea-Rex avatar.

I love your avatar! :D

ashmanra said

I remember way back thinking, “Wow, he looks like Spock.” Then I realized it WAS Spock. I have never mistaken the Tea Rex for you, though!

K S said

Before Ambassador Spock, I spent a short time as a Stormtrooper which I recall you have family that actually gets to dress that way in real life – well you know what I mean – that rocks.

ashmanra said

That’s right, K S! My son is a Sandtrooper and is a member of the 501st Garrison, Vader’s Fist. He is working on a Stormtrooper ROTJ armor set. He also does a great zombie! Youngest daughter has an Elizabeth (the young original one) cosplay from Bioshock Infinite that she had made. We are nerds.

My name is the name I came up with for a drawing I did many years ago in school in arts class. We were supposed to draw a face. I drew a sort of an Einstein elderly fellow (you know, with the wild whitish hair). I thought he should have a name, so I jotted down these letters. For some reason, the name has stuck with me all these years, so when I started needing a handle I thought this might not be taken by anyone else… and I was right – so far.

The image picture is due a unique ID I had once in a company, where they took the first two letters from the first name and the first from the last name – hence BOO.

ashmanra said

All I can think of when I see your avatar is, “KITTY!”

Noname said

It is Boo from Monsters, Inc.

ashmanra said

I know, but I love the way Boo says “Kitty!” when she sees Sully peek in her door at the end! :)

Mine is a bit boring and if anything, indicative of how indecisive I can be. When I first signed up, I wanted to use a different handle but couldn’t think of something clever so stuck with my real name (Eve). Then I remembered how when I worked in Texas, co-workers kept calling me Eva. I can totally relate to the Wall-e movie “Eve” character; “Eva…” “Eve!” Anyway, I decided that was too short so finally got around to adding Grimm (my middle name). I promise I won’t change it again. ;)
