How did you choose your username?

Mine was the result of a “crap, gotta come up with a name, gotta come up with a name…” moment. It was back when I thought Adagio was the pinnacle of quality or something (despite having never tried any of their products at the time), and their name always made me start playing Fiona Apple’s song “The First Taste” in my head, which contains the phrase “adagio breezes” in the second verse (link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRgtOWwamHU ). It’s not one of her better songs imo, but it’s a decent username and I couldn’t think of anything better at the time. Most of my usernames have been music-related, come to think of it.

I always thought you just really loved Adagio’s teas.

Haha no, my mind is not that straightforward :)

I love Fiona’s music! And yeah, The First Taste is generally not her best but it can be fun and even groovy when one is in the right mood :D

Carol Who sent me down the rabbit hole by mentioning this thread…I’ve just spent quite a long time reading all of these, because names are so interesting to me. How incredibly fun! I loved all of your stories!!

I’m just going to add my story, since it’s like a fun party here (even though I showed up really, really late, and the punch bowl is down to the dregs and, and I missed all the great songs…..).
This is one of the names I use a lot… it’s from Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” comic, when Delirium is bored and starts making little frogs…

I always loved that panel, and Neil Gaiman is one of my favourites….

I love this thread.

Many of you know that I am married to a Dane. On our first date he showed up with candy in hand, specifically Anthon Berg strawberries in champagne. I started loving marzipan after that. It became a running joke every time we visited Denmark, my brothers-in-law (I have four) would show up with an Anthon Berg marzipan “bread” which is basically a candy bar – marzipan covered in chocolate. It just started being a thing.

Easy one. I bought lots of tea. Mrs K comes home, opens the cupboard and shouts “more bloody tea!” and thus it stuck from there on.

Ha ha! I didn’t need an explanation for your username – I knew where it came from as soon as I saw it! LOL! Other tea people understand completely. :)

We’ve got over it now. I just don’t tell her

Heh heh! You should hear me explaining how "this isn’t for me, well, not all of it, because our daughter-friend-neighbor-co-worker wanted tea so we combined the order to save money blah blah blah…LOL! But he really doesn’t care and doesn’t mind. Sometimes I tell him he just ordered my birthday present and he remarks, “I am so thoughtful.”

So I got my original name – darby14 – around 2000 when ebay and internet usage were starting to get more popular. Darby Hendrickson from the MN Wild hockey team was my favorite player…we had just gotten NHL back in MN….his number is 14. Years later I came to realize that most people thought I was 14! So I still use both but a lot of the time for a screen name I just use Darby so that I don’t confuse people.

I’ve come to really like it and if my mom wouldn’t be hurt, I’d probably change my really name from Jodi as it’s too short.

HaHa!! I love this one. Glad to see another hockey fan on here! I love having a cuppa(or four or five) and watching the B’s play.

Well, my name is Luciana, but most call me Lucy, and my last name starts with a letter T, and I like tea, so I figure, LuciTea. Nothing too fancy.

Mine is easy enough…someone always has tea I want but dont have. Is the 11th comandment “thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s tea”?

Right below Thou shalt not kill your neighbor for their tea…Thou shalt not steal your neighbor’s tea, etc.

In the vein of having more discussion topics that are welcoming/inclusive (and less spammy) – I thought this would be an old thread to bump that could be fun since there are definitely some different people on Steepster now than there were five years ago – I’d love to learn the history behind some of your usernames!

See if you can find my response back from earlier in the thread – I guarantee the story behind my username is different than the average assumption.

This was an awesome thread! I wonder how many of the people who replied to it and still out there reading but not posting? It would be interesting to know! We went from names to height to avatars. I remembered where your name came from!

I admittedly had a very fun (and nostalgic/sad) time rereading the old comments – a lot of faces of people who aren’t around anymore. I remember mine surprising people; everyone always thinks it’s because of aliens…

After reading your notes over the course of a year, I never once questioned the origin of your username, Roswell Strange. It is. But now I know!

And ashmanra, I figured ashman was your maiden name. Now I know!
