Supermarket tea - UK readers

Hi all

Just a quick heads up about a visit to my local Tesco – it seems they are upping the sales of loose tea which is something of a bucking the trend compared to other retailers. They now stock WeAreTea tea temples and loose teas plus there seeme to be a push from them in terms of the quality of what they are trying to sell. It will be interesting to see if other retailers follow suit.

I also had a trip down to my nearest Booths last week and stocked up on their own branded loose teas and for 125g packs of tea you are looking at around £1-£2 depending on what you buy. I’ve tried their Royal Assam before and found it brilliant and at that price you can’t really go wrong.

This is good news! I sadly don’t have a local tesco. I have ASDA, lidl and Sainsbury’s, and none seem to do loose tea ):

The Sainsbury’s that I go to stocks a few varieties of Teapigs, and they have a few types of tea in sachets on their private label.

My Sainsbury’s stocks teapigs too, I think, but I’ve already tried all of their teas I’m interested in! (: they only stock the teabags, too, none of the loose leaf ):

I like teapigs but it’s false economy – 4.50 for 15 drinks though. However if it gets people trying better teas then it’s a start

I completely agree with that! They are incredibly expensive. At my local shop it’s 45p for a single bag, so slightly more than you pay per bag if you get a pack, but I don’t mind paying it because it means I can try the tea without having to fork out a fiver for 15 cups of tea that I might not like.
