Broken Breville Variable Temp Kettle?

I’m getting a little agitated here… it appears my kettle broke on me this morning and I’m so spoiled by having the perfect temp water in minutes of pushing a button that I don’t think I can go back to not having it. This is going to put a serious kink in my tea habits.

I boiled some water this morning, then needed water at a lower temp for green tea so I added some room temp water and set the kettle for 175. That is when the lights on the button went on, but the kettle didn’t heat. I have tried unplugging it, letting it sit for several hours and putting cool water in it. There is no reset button and I don’t know what else to do. Has anyone had any experience with a kettle malfunctioning? Is there something else I could try? Breville’s customer service isn’t open on the weekends and a google search didn’t turn up much that was helpful, so I thought I’d ask here. I’m so sad! I think I have had it for just over a year. One year of tea making bliss.

Unfortunately, it sounds like your Breville may need to be returned for warranty service. The good news is that I’ve read positive comments about their customer service. Since they’re not open on the weekend, you may wish to email them: http://www.brevilleusa.com/ask-us. At least it will place you in their customer service queue, which should expedite a solution.

In the mean time, at least you have an alternative method: https://www.davidstea.com/thermometer-and-timer?&currid=usd&LN=EN. It’s not as convenient as a variable temp kettle, but it is accurate & reliable.

Thanks! I don’t know why I didn’t think to do a Steepster search! Sometime the obvious escapes me. I am hoping that there is a way to reset my kettle. It’s too bad they don’t have instructions to reset on their website.

I was trying to use my David’s thermometer yesterday and it started getting angry with me too. It started making a constant clicking noise and not turning on. Tried replacing the battery and any time a battery was in it, the clicking started. I’ll have to fuss with it again today to see if it is in a better mood.

Hole-E-WOW! Got a hold of Breville’s customer service center and even though I bought an Amazon warehouse out of box/refurbished kettle and even tho it is a few months over the one year warranty they offer, they are going to replace my kettle AND pay for shipping the new one to me and old one back to them! I couldn’t have asked for a better outcome aside from a magic wand that would make the new one appear on my counter in an instant. THANK YOU BREVILLE!!!!

That is amazing customer service. I’ve been thinking about one but have been on the fence. It looks like there is likely one in my immediate future. I’m so glad they took care of this for you.

I checked out the new one at Teavana today and it looks pretty cool. The pitcher sides are glass, the bottom is steel and there is a silicone ring between the two. The lid is plastic as well as the rim around the removable filter in the spout, but if you took the filter out I don’t think there wouldn’t be any plastic touching the water. I have the metal one which has a plastic viewing strip so you can see the water level through the side and the water touches that. Breville said that the variable temp glass kettle just came out last month and is currently a Teavana exclusive. Just FYI is plastic is an issue for you. :)

Yes, thanks the plastic is def an issue for me. Did you look at it at Barton Creek? Cause I may go check it out.

I think that was the one. The mall out by 71 and Mopac. I’m wishing I had bought one now. I may go back for it in a couple days and give the replacement one to my sis. The gal that helped me today was super awesome, very chill and not pushy at all. I may call ahead to see if she is in so she gets what ever sales total/points from my purchase. My receipt says Jamela.

You were great Jamela, thanks!
