Philadelphia Coffee & Tea Festival - make a weekend of it?

Hi, this discussion is related to the “New York Coffee and Tea Festival” thread begun by Nicole Martin on March 17. There was some enthusiasm on this thread for attending the Philadelphia version of this show on November 8 – 9 (http://www.coffeeandteafestival.com/philly/) , but some discouragement too, since the venue is a conference center half an hour’s drive outside the city center. I wondered: would anyone be interested in forming a group that could carpool, or share costs of a van rental? (I can provide three seats in my car from NYC.) Maybe we could even make a weekend of it, with a visit to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Reading Terminal Market, and/or a walking tour and dinner in one of Philadelphia’s nifty Center City neighborhoods. (My mom was raised near Philadelphia so I know the area a bit.) The place I’d recommend staying is the Thomas Bond House bed and breakfast, which is on the National Historic Register of Historic Places but pretty affordable at $125 – $190 per night. (Maybe we could even convince them to let us serve tea in their historic parlor!) I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions!

Or check out AirBNB! www.airbnb.com/c/nfrench

I was thinking about going to the Philly one, but was discouraged when I heard it was outside of the city. It would have been Awesome if it was at City Center or even the Armory on upper east side of Philly.

Do we know if it’s essentially the same vendors as were at the New York one? Or is it totally different?

Based on a quick look at the exhibitors on the websites, I’d say the “big” exhibitors have a lot of overlap, but there appear to be some smaller companies that are unique (but I didn’t do any formal comparison)

I am thinking seriously about this. I am a Hilton Honors member and I checked out what they had available. I believe it is a Hilton Garden Inn that they say is walking distance from the location of the festival location. With a Triple A discount you can get a room with one king or two queen beds for about $105. I will get a rent car regardless, so I probably wont mind driving into the city. I really enjoy going to the Reading Terminal Market. I went ahead and held myself a room while I decide.

Hey guys! I went to Philly’s Coffee and Yes festival last year, and while it was fun it didn’t have a lot of the big name vendors that attend the NY show. Maybe it’ll be different this year, but last year Capital Teas was the biggest vendor there. Very nice, very awesome folks. Just an FYI! Please don’t take any of this as negative. I had a great time last year and will be there again this year!

A road trip down to Philly sounds appealing.

I’m thinking seriously of attending this. My son just started college in Philadelphia and my father-in-law lives in Glenside, which is about half an hour from the event venue. All of which makes my logistics pretty easy. It would be terrific to meet up with other Steepster folk. Can we set something up? Also, for those who have been to this event before, is it worth going for both days or is one enough? This will be my first tea expo, so I’m really looking forward to it!

I’ll be taking the train in from Boston and I’d love to meet up with any other Steepsterites who are at the festivities. Drop me a PM and we’ll set up a meet-up.

Thinking about getting my ducks in a row for this weekend. Drop me a line and we’ll figure out how to meet up. Anyone else going to Philadelphia this weekend?
