I have a pu erh cake tea... Help!

Since my dad realized two years ago how obsessed with tea I have truly become, tea is the one thing he gets every year for Christmas. It’s absolutely awesome and I totally love it!

So, this year, he got me a tea cake, which I didn’t even know they existed until he gave me this. He didn’t know anything about it, but thought it was an interesting find and thought I’d get a kick out of it, which I have.

From what I could find on the packaging that wasn’t in Japanese/Chinese (Sorry, not sure which it is) I believe this is the one I have: http://steepster.com/teas/cnnp/23938-cnnp-yunnan-chitsu-pingcha

My only thing is, I don’t know how to properly break it all apart so I don’t damage the leaves too much. I saw a video online about how to break the whole thing apart all at once, but I’d prefer to not do that if I don’t have to. I’d rather just do a little at a time, if that’s even possible.

Also wondering if anyone knows much and how long to steep it for?

Thanks!

Teavivre has informative articles on how to pry off pieces of pu erh and how to brew it. Enjoy.

Generally speaking, you will always get some breakage. The tighter the compression, the more dust and breakage you’ll get. Its common practice to discard the dust and small pieces of breakage and not use them in the steeping
