Sorry that is a bit confusing. The menu is for May’s club which will ship on May 1. You make the selection in April and get the tea in May.

So if the selection is a pu’erh, is it possible to switch it to oolong? Or that’s not how that works?

Yulia thanks for the question. That category, the oolong/pu’er, alternates between a oolong tea and a pu’er tea. For example, this month’s menu is featuring a oolong tea, next month’s menu is featuring a pu’er tea. Then we rinse and repeat.

You choose 2 of the 5 teas so you can just avoid the puerh selection, unless you choose the sampler.

With May’s selections I am really excited about four of the five, so I went with the sampler, and I figure I’ll either swap the fifth or put it in one of the traveling tea boxes I’m in. For April, though, I just picked two of the five. You really get a very generous amount of tea.

Did the price go up on this? I thought it was roughly $20/month for Canadians, but when I look at the site to ‘join now’ the price for a 3 month subscription is 68.45 (22.82/month) plus $15. Or is that $15 not supposed to show up?

I only noticed this because I was trying to plan my tea budget.

Hey Cavocorax,

We did have to raise our prices. We found, after last month, that our prices were dangerously low if we wanted to continue to offer our club with the current format of members getting to select their own teas.

As to the shipping, it looks like that is correct. With the three month plan the shipping to Canada is charged at the start, I wish there was a way to do the shipping as we ship but we can’t do it that way currently.

A side note: the price increase will not affect any of our current members. They are all grandfathered in at their old pricing.

The deadlines may help to some degree. To a large degree because we don’t offer a standardized tea box most of the “cost saving” methods out there for subscription box companies don’t apply to us until we are VERY large. But we are going to be working on ways to reduce the cost of the club while maintaining the quality of the club’s service. We are not willing to reduce the number of teas available, as some subscription box experts have suggested, and we are not willing to send out crummy tea. We would rather stop offering the club.

And yeah, for Canadians the per month cost of a 3 month plan would $27.82. If you sign up for the ongoing 3 month plan, it will renew on the same day you signed up + 90 days. (There is a coupon code on our homepage that you can use on the ongoing plans.) If you are wanting a plan that does not renew, then I would suggest going with the “Gift” option. It is a one time purchase that does not renew at the end of the 3 month period.

I can understand not wanting to drop the quality of the tea. I haven’t gotten my first month just yet, but from the samples I’ve had, it’s really good! I don’t mind paying for something nice.
