American Tea Anthology Submissions

Greetings Steepster community,

I am working on a book project called Tea Anthology: Part 1 The American Experience. The concept is to explore the ways that people within the US experience tea through a illustrated/graphic book. We are looking for illustrators and a few writers who will be compensated for their work.

Here are some of the chapters currently in the pipeline:

Oregon Mint: How mint has traveled from England to Massachusetts to the Pacific North West.

Boston Tea Party: How this revolutionary act decimated the American Tea industry

Lapsang Suchong: A story looking at “export teas”. Teas which not consumed within China/India but are exclusively made for the international market place.

Hm, the URL doesn’t load for me.

I don’t have anything worthy of submission, but I just wanted to say this sounds really interesting and I’m really digging those topics! Glad you’re doing it.

Based on the chapters, looks more like historical non-fiction, are you also going to be looking for writers that write fictional work about tea, as a theme rather than the focus?

Hey Mars1,

I think you may have emailed us…but to answer your question, each chapter will consist of 10 pages. 1 page for the title, 2 pages for the historical non-fiction epilogue, and 7 pages for the a fictional illustrated story based off the epilogue.

The epilogue is somewhat straight forward, it will be written based on historical record but will be focused on discussing the relevance to what does or doesn’t happen in American tea culture.
The goal of the accompanying illustrated story is to capture the emotion of the subject.

The epilogue for the Boston tea party chapter will focus on the decimation of the tea industry in America while the illustrated story will be a fictional story about a tea shop owner in Boston dealing with the after of this revolutionary act leading to the eventual closing of his shop.

So far we have received an impressive and inspiring amount of submissions from artists, illustrators, writers, and will do our best to include as much as we can. The parties involved will receive a page rate fee + a modest dividend from the sale of the book.
