Contest for new matcha names ($50)

Hello,
I’m considering a new matcha tea supplier to add more plain, unflavored matcha tea varieties to our collection. It will be 5-7 new quality levels of matcha and we’d like to get some ideas on how to name them.
$50 credit toward matcha products for the winner.
Suggestions: preferably some names that would show a sequence like: Sargent, Captain, General… but related to Japan of course.
I hope you can help :-)

Hmm, I can’t think of how to make this into a sequence but I think the names that might sound the coolest would be Japanese city names, Tokyo, Fukuoka, Kyoto, Nagoya, Osaka, Kawasaki, etc :)

OR for a sequence perhaps the historical periods of Japan? Meiji, Taisho, Showa, Heisei, Edo, etc…

well, there is a sort of sequence and not just random words. I really like it :-)

I really like the historical periods idea.

Historical ranks? Uh… Farmer, Samurai, Diamyo, Shogun, Emperor.

There is a better list on this website. http://www.ushistory.org/civ/10c.asp

Tea makes me think of zen.

The ranks under the Japanese Gozan Zen system:
First rank: Tenryu
Second rank: Shokuku
Third rank: Kennin
Fourth rank: Tofuku
Fifth rank: Manju

Some of the most famous Samurai from Japan include. Miyamoto Musashi, Kusunoki Masashige, Sanada Yukimura, Ōishi Yoshio Kuranosuke, Miyamoto Musashi. Just some names to think about. like Yukimura Matcha or something. Hope this helps

Is there a way to make your picture stop flashing?

My picture is not flashing on my screen. So no I don’t think so.

It’s flashing on mine too, but I thought maybe because I’m on a mobile device?

I’m on my computer now, still flashing. It makes me avoid Clam’s posts :(

Hmm :/ it doesn’t really bother me, but you could try switching to a text-based page view?

How about the five levels of Japan’s feudal system in the 800s(?): Emperor, Shogun, Daimyo, Samurai, and Ronin? Ronin being the lowest grade

What about the seven lucky Gods? Not sure how you’d order them, though. But here’s a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Lucky_Gods

Or, maybe the seasons? In Japan there are five seasons – so that would sort of fit, and you could go in order of when they occur:

Haru (Spring), Natsu (Summer), Tsuyu (the “rainy season”), Aki (Fall), and Fuyu (Winter).

+1 I love this idea!!

Um, I had that idea as well.

Sorry! I totally didn’t see that!

Great minds think alike? :)

Will steepsterites be able to vote on names?? And also will we be able to get these new grades of matcha in the flavored varieties as well or will it only be for the unflavored? This is exciting!

I did not anticipate the voting for this…
It will be available as unflavored first to see how it sells. If it’s popular, I will include it as part of flavored matcha as well.

I forgot to add that, as always, I will ask a few Steepster brave souls later to test those for me and rate them. There are couple samples missing yet and I hope to get them by the end of next weeks.

Haiku is a short form of Japanese poetry and has been my favorite form
of poetry since the 5th grade.
The names I would suggest would be Haiku & names related to Haiku poetry, such as…
Tenmei, Buson, Issa, Shiki, Haiga,Kuhi & Basho

You have had some fabulous suggestions above, so thank you for listening to my humble idea

Another idea would be to use the names of the different Japanese islands. Hokkaidō, Honshū, Shikoku, and Kyūshū are the main ones. It could be expanded into other islands.

I like this idea as well as names of the cities, but I think it could confuse some people to think that those product came from these particular regions. :-(

When I think of Japan I tend to go to the cultural side and think of what it is known for. So here are some of my suggestions:

Neko Matcha
Geisha Matcha
Bonsai Matcha
Dragon Matcha
Sakura Matcha
Samurai Matcha
Mt Fuji Matcha

Each package can have a picture of each on the front to make the entire collection collectable and fun.
