NYC Steepsterites!

I will be visiting NYC this weekend. I would love suggestions for tea places/restaurants to visit. I know for sure I will eat once at Il Cortile in Little Italy and Gentleman Farmer on I believe the Lower East Side. Would love to know where y’all think I should try.

-You should definitely check out Flushing China Town, if you have the time. There are tons of tea shops there, including Fang Tea shop which is a bit of a Flushing tea staple.
-If anyone you are traveling with speaks Cantonese, I highly recommend eating at Grand Restaurant in the Flushing Mall for dim sum.
-Alice’s Tea Cup (tea place/restaurant) is my best friend’s favorite spot for afternoon tea/dinner with tea. I’m not the hugest fan, but it’s a really fun place! You must make a reservation, though.
-Dean and Deluca (market) has a fairly large variety of big business, high-end brands.
-Sun’s Organic Tea Shop in China Town and Harney and Sons (tea place) are fun.
-If you like chai lattes at all, The Bean (cafe) makes the best darn chai latte that I have ever had.
-Finally, I have heard great things about Ippodo (tea place) and Mandarin Tea Room (tea place)

Great recommendations! If memory services me correctly, Fang Tea does tea tastings for $2 a person.

Additional Tea Room Recommendations: Cha-an, Radiance Tea.
Tea Shop Recommendation: Kusmi Tea, DavidsTea

+1 for Alice’s Tea Cup especially. They do a charming tea time and also sell loose leaf. There are three locations, so at least one of them will probably be easy to get to for you.

Definitely Radiance Tea in midtown! Lady Mendl’s around Union Square is also wonderful for a formal fancy sit-down tea, but you must make a reservation in advance.

Are you looking only for tea/food combo? We have some very nice middle eastern reastaurants in Brooklyn . I’m in Sheepshead Bay Area near the ocean. Endless list of places different cuisines. Excellent Turkish coffee(oops sorry I don’t know of you are coffee drinker). Let me know if you are interested in that. I will send you some links if you want.

Wow thanks Tea Pet. Those are awesome. I never miss a stop at Dean and Deluca when I go to NY. I will try to get to some of those.

@boychik I AM a coffee drinker as well. I would love to try the Turkish coffee. We will mostly be in Midtown I think and will also in Queens to visit friends, but I will try to make time to get to Brooklyn this time as well so yes I’d be interested in some links. And yes interested in food as well.

Thanks so much y’all – I really appreciate it :)

Turkish Place in Brooklyn.
I like this place a lot. its on a bay. Food is gorgeous and reasonably priced. meaning i’ve been to some in a city is overpriced and i’d say not that fresh. st peters or branzino, lamb chops are just to die for. and portions are huge.

Moroccan place in a city
http://www.nyc.com/link.aspx?site=http%3a%2f%2fwww.cafemogador.com
They serve moroccan mint tea sweeten or unsweeten. very reasonable, good portions. lamb shank, red lentil soup, babaganush, baklava

i suggest you to avoid Midtown. overpriced and not that great.

If you are fan of Chinese teas, we’re a traditional Chinese tea house located in the East Village. Every tea on our menu is hand sourced directly from the farmers in China.

Thanks so much for these tips y’all! Today I got to Harney & Sons, Dean and Deluca, and Tea Drunk – which was so so much fun. Nicole was a fabulous hostess – we had a nice session with a Dian Hong, great conversation and I came away with an adorable tea jar. Nicole thanks so much for your hospitality. Went to visit friends in Long Island City and also had a nice dinner there. I still <3NY.
