I need help finding the perfect tumbler!

I’m new to Steepster! Hi!
Anyway, so I’m on the hunt of a tumbler (and I have been for some time now). I currently use a plastic Tervis tumbler that I got as gift two years ago. I’ve tried a porcelain tumbler from Teavana and it leaked, and I’m not a fan of Starbucks’ tumblers. I don’t want to live life drinking out of a plastic tumbler anymore!
This is what I’m looking for:
glass, porcelain or ceramic and no silicone lids
double walled and secure enough that it doesn’t leak down the sides
I would be amazed if it had storage for tea and/or an infuser. (I see a lot of those in Chinese stores)
And it has to look beautiful.
I would like to pay under $50 CAD.
No stainless steel–it makes tea taste terrible.
Any ideas? What’s your favourite tumbler that you use?

I’ve been using one of these for the last 2 months and have been very happy with it.

That one is really pretty! How long does your tea stay hot? Does it leak?
I’m such an annoying person with travel mugs, but this is almost exactly what I’m looking for.

Hi Carly! Thanks inranger for the plug. Carly… our glass tea thermoses are made for us out of top-quality glass, inside and out, along with a stainless steel strainer. While the lids have a silicone gasket, we still recommend that people keep them upright. They are not made to be airtight. And hot tea will pressurize so leaking can occur if not close to upright. There is a video of me talking about our tea thermos brewing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7YK1mJDtlo&feature=youtube_gdata

May it serve you well!! Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks Garret. I’ll keep this one in mind for sure.

I use this one. It can be leaky so don’t put in a bag. It doesn’t retain heat like a contigo/stainless but I like that because I want to drink my tea right away!

I don’t think the thermos is completely air tight, and if you turn it upside down you could get some minor leakage, but during normal use I get no leaks at all.

As far as how long tea stays hot in the thermos, I drink tea out of it over multiple hours with refillings involved, and don’t really pay attention to how long it stays hot, but I would imagine that hot tea would at least be warm after an hour.

……and welcome to Steepster! :)

Do you care about how long the tea stays warm? I have this one and it’s really pretty and nice to hold: http://www.amazon.com/Thermo-O-Double-Walled-Bottle-Aquaovo/dp/B005QV8CDU I got a LOT of complements on how beautiful it is.
It only keeps my Japanese green tea hot for an hour or a bit over. It is fairly but not perfect leak-proof – it will leak slowly if held at a sharp angle for a while, but if it moved around a bit in your bag while carrying it should be fine. There’s a tea basket, but the mesh is fairly coarse and I don’t use it for Sencha.

I have two of these Thermos-brand thermoses with the infuser (they’re stainless steel so don’t match your criteria but they are the best IMO and once “broken in” the metal taste goes away): http://www.amazon.com/Thermos-12-Ounce-Stainless-Steel-Tumbler-Infuser/dp/B00004S1CV/ref=pd_sim_k_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=0B17BB3Z0MF22YBMRB8A

They never leak, even if I hold them upside down (I carry them in a backpack and walk so they flipped around too). Just have to make sure that they are properly and tightly. And your tea will stay hot 6 hours. They claim 6 hours, but if you don’t open the thermos, I think its more like 7 or 8, depending on the type of tea.

How long the tea stays hot is not a big deal really. I drink my tea within the first hour usually but I would like one for longer school days. But then I would have to look into stainless steel and I just can’t stand the taste of tea in one. The first one is really nice to look at! For leak proof I’m looking more for one that can stand being on a bus or being held along side of an umbrella without splashing and burning my hand …lol

I usually walk 1 mile each way to school with the glass tumblr in my backpack with books (and a laptop in a separate compartment) without any leakage. I think it would be fine on a bus or against an umbrella and it definitely doesn’t splash out. :)

The glass one would definitely keep your tea hot for an hour. I use it for Japanese green which I brew fairly cool and it keeps it warm for an hour or so. If you’re brewing something else at a warmer temp, it would probably work even better.

I drink the tea in the glass tumblr first and then move onto the stainless steel later in the day. I only use my stainless steel for sencha and I have had it (well both) for years now so the metal taste has died down now. But it did take a while (maybe a month of daily use?) for the sencha to infuse into the steel and override that metallic taste.
