Pu-erh Cakes

Can anyone on here recommend good places to buy raw pu-erh cakes. I’m looking for the 357 gram cakes that you have had and know are good at a fairly good price. If anyone can recommend sites, I’d greatly appreciate it. Like most people, I’m looking to get the most bang for my buck. Thank you.

This would be a good thread to check out. The ones posting on it would be the ones that would know the answers to your questions.

I looked into, it looks more like they are talking about the actual pu-erh teas, Im looking for the sites and prices. But that definitely is a good thread to keep up with.

Yunnan Sourcing US and China site. Berylleb King Tea on Ebay. Puerh shop. Jasetea, all good choices. Some other vendors sell in 100 gram cakes for the premium stuff. Mandala Tea and Verdant Tea if I recall correctly. If you are searching for a specific brand or cake I keep a pretty close watch on them and usually know where the best pricing is. I am a cheapskate but I spend well to have more.

I myself am a cheapskate. Lol. I am looking for the best prices and best tasting puerh cakes for the cheap price. I’m looking for the 357 gram cakes because it’s gonna be a gift for someone. They don’t know anything about puerh, so giving them something cheap as long as it’s ok, they won’t really know the difference. Yunnan sourcing did catch my attention but then the shipping charges came up. Like I said, cheapskate. So I’m looking for the best deals I can get, shipping included. Thanks, mrmopar

Berylleb King Tea has some good Menghai cakes. These are always good teas. Menghai “Spring” only 1 batch made per year and good quality in it.

Yunnan Sourcings “Wu Liang Ye Shen”is a great non bitter purple bud tea. Has a hint of sweetness to it.
Right a $40.00 but you may ind it on the US site.

These are good, I’m just worried about shipping time? Do you have any experience with them in regards to shipping time? I need it within a week and a half and two. I’m afraid it’ll take WAY longer than that since it’s coming from china.

You can order from Yunnans US site they are pretty quick. I think Berylleb is about 8 to 10 business days but you could Email them and find out. They usually ship same day as you purchase from them.

Puerhshop.com . They send USPS priority mail 2 days usually for me. Shipping is reasonable, based on weight but if its heavy flat $9.99( I think). I was happy with the purchases I made.

That is a great site for me….later. It’s mostly bricks. For the gift, I’m looking for a cake. Thank you very much for your input. I greatly appreciate it.

I know you want a 357 g cake, but I recently gave Mandala’s 2012 Wild Monk cake as a gift to my son’s music professor who hails from France. He was most impressed with the gift. The cake is only 100 g, but if the person is new to puerh, small can be a good start. This cake has lots of lovers here on Steepster. Just an idea…

Thank you very much cwyn. That’s a great idea. I already have a small cake. It’s a pricey one too but it’s only 200 grams. That’s the reason I need a cheap 357 gram cake. Now, I have seen that wild monk cake, that’s something I’d be interested in buying for me.

If your criteria are 357g raw pu erh cakes and most bang for the buck you’ll probably want a US based site. yunnansourcing.us is a great place to start. shopmandalatea.com has some 357g raw cakes (ships fast and I love their customer service). You’ll probably want to avoid the china based shops since shipping generally adds 20% to your order, although you’ll probably get some of the best selection and best quality from a china based site so keep that in mind. jkteashop.com is an excellent china based shop if you feel like looking.

universotea.com is a site of a private dealer I know who has good quality tea for cheap. You’d have to look him up and friend request him on facebook, at least that’s how I ordered from him… his name is Yang-chu Higgins and he’d be more than happy to talk to you and direct you towards a tea you might like. Shipping is $12 flat rate I believe and I got my order in under a week.

I also think I should mention that when it comes to raw pu erh you might not want to go cheap. You can generally find some great ripe pu erh cakes for cheap, but raw cakes generally take several years of aging to really get good and the older cakes are always more expensive. Going with a cheap young raw pu erh you will probably not be getting the best quality, although some do enjoy these young teas. Just my 2 cents. Happy tea shopping!

Almost forgot!!! thechineseteashop.com based out of Vancouver Canada. excellent, excellent resource for aged raw pu erh which will be more expensive but worth it IMO. They also have young raw cakes at decent prices and ships quick so you can find good bang for the buck there too. They sell my absolute favorite raw pu erh a 1990’s Ding Xing Hao which is spendy at around $150 but if I could only drink 1 raw pu erh for the rest of time it would be this tea. Probaly too spendy for what you are looking for but I though I’d throw it out there.

Thank you for all this knowledge awilsondc. In the process of checking all this stuff out.

I want to thank everyone who helped me out with this here. I looked at everything everyone here suggested and ended up purchasing on ebay.
Here is the link to what I purchased:

If anyone has had any experience with this cake, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate the info on it. Thank you.

That’s a really low price for an 8 year old 357g raw cake! I hope you like it! Is this your first pu erh cake purchase? Have you tried ripe pu erh?

I thought so too. Thing is, I’m not even gonna taste it. This is going to be a gift. This is not my first puerh cake. This would be my second one. My first one was about a week ago from Nicholas from misty peak teas. From that 50% off sale. But I just put it away and I’m not planning to touch it for a couple years at least, since it’s from spring 2013. Also, have not tried ripe puerh. From what I’ve read on the ripe puerh, not sure if I will like it. But going to bring myself to try it to know wether I like it or not.

Hey TeaJunkie. Hope you are doing well and enjoy that puer from us someday soon.

So fun to hear that you are aging it. I hope it comes out fantastic for you. Time does something amazing to that tea.

Blessings

I am, Thank you very much. How about yourself? Really looking forward to the tea. I might just cheat and take a small piece to try it now and just save the rest for a few years. And thanks for the wonderful sale. If it wouldn’t have been for that sale, I don’t think I would have any cakes at all.
