Was looking for small tea tins when I stumbled upon these beauties on Etsy :

And then these modern “french style” canisters: https://www.etsy.com/shop/TeaAndTins?section_id=17479457&ref=shopsection_leftnav_1

Aaaaaargh I want them all!!

White2Tea cake batter cups kinda resemble that.

Those have been out of stock for awhile. Even so… I haven’t paid anywhere near $29 for one single cup. Maybe I’m cheap, but I tend to spend $5 to $18 per cup and buy them in pairs.

ahhhh okay… Check the aliexpress 11/11 thread. Someone picked up some that were really cheap (even without the sale) that looked similar.

I’m kinda sorta looking at travel sets. I was considering a gaiwan and cups, but I’m not always the most coordinated. It’s mostly for bringing tea to my parents place, and sharing some stuff I don’t want them to brew “their” way… :)

I’ve seen a similar set on EBay, I believe Berylleb King Tea.

OMGsrsly said

Oh right. And shipping is usually faster from the ebay stores.

Those tea pets!!!

Nicole said

Oh, everything there. And really reasonably priced especially for things that you can be reasonably certain are not crap. Goodbye resolve and wallet!

OMGsrsly said

Oh goodness I KNOW. The goat teapet is one I’ve tried to order on aliexpress before, but the order was cancelled.

So tempting.

I’m going to head to the big Asian mall and see what I can find to soothe my buying wants. If I don’t find anything, I’m definitely ordering.

boychik said

This is new site just launched today by White 2 Tea. Well I’ve placed 2 orders. One wasn’t enough lol. It’s very reasonably priced. Ive got many cups, gaiwans from White 2 tea. They are all top quality. And free ship at $40 is very easy to make ;D

Nicole said

And for $40 since the prices are reasonable, you can feel like you are getting a lot! :) I don’t get paid until next Friday. If there are things left, I can see a second order coming.

curlygc said

Yeah. I keep looking at it, but I keep telling myself that I have enough teaware, but never enough tea, and money spent on teaware means less money to spend on tea…

Oh who am I kidding, of course I’m going to order something!

Nicole said

#teawarehoarders unite! :P

AllanK said

This site has some really nice stuff but I wonder why they made it separate from White2Tea?

boychik said

Nicole, i’m patiently awaiting for you on IG. i see some signs it may happen soonish.

boychik said

AllanK, i dunno. i think its better ask them ;)

boychik said

curlygc, remember last time your struggle with Jian Shui pot from CLT?

I placed two orders, and now I’m thinking “Oh I should have gotten a couple of other cups, and I forgot to get the bamboo coasters that I meant to get on the first two orders, and I really would like that aurora tea pot that I agonized over, and…..”

I wonder how long that free shipping is going to last. I wonder how long my bank account will last.

curlygc said

@boychik I know! And I love that little pot – no regrets!

ETA – Ended up buying it. Fingers crossed it isn’t too large.

Nicole said

That is very elegant looking!

OMGsrsly said

I really like that! The only sad part is looking at it on a computer – C$ 32.01. Boo! The strainer is super cute, and looks like it’d keep out most tea pieces.

cookies said

Yeah, that’s a bummer. They do have a $2 coupon which helps a tiny bit.

It might be worth it to save the extra $20 to get the one you really want. They are all lovely, though!

AllanK said

Those are three of my favorite EBay vendors and they all sell good stuff. They are all nice.

I’d go for the Wenge. And having bought a smaller tray initially, I now wish I had gone with a medium sized one so I could actually fit gaiwan, cup, cha hai and tea pet on the tray at the same time. :) I ended up with a very large one as well, but it isn’t practical for solo sessions.

I spent $80 for my Wenge tray. If you’re going to have one tea tray for a lifetime, why not save up and splurge some in this moment?

Thanks for the input everyone!

Nichole I bought a small bamboo table without a plastic tray about a year ago and it’s already starting to warp. Also a tiny bit more space would be nice…

You all are right, I should save up and go for the wenge tray when I finally do upgrade :D

Kiwi where did you find your wenge tray? I’ve been looking at eBay since I have a $25 gift card anyway.

It’s from Teavivre. I used reward points.

Nicole said

That is gorgeous and for that kind of discount I’d jump on it. :)

Are you kidding me?!??! This is what I have. And Dexter.

t-ching said

Kiwi, I was looking at buying a tea tray too, how do you like the wenge wood? Do you think its more durable than bamboo? How’s the maintenance of it?

Alright I ordered it! WOO!

boychik has the same tray too kiwiDelight! HA!

oops I meant boychik!

t-ching I can’t compare it to bamboo since this is the only tray I’ve ever had. As for maintenance, I follow Teavivre’s directions. I’m a newb to tea trays.

“The maintenance of this Wenge Wood Tea Tray is very easy. During the first few times, you need to put warm tea towel on the tea tray and let the tea tray adapt to the absorbing. After using, must dry the water and avoid exposure, baking, etc. If you do not use it for a long time, you should use water moisten it.”

t-ching said

Lol @ the direction to not bake it. I’ve had bamboo cutting boards crack in my house, maybe because of the climate. I’m just about ready to pull the trigger on this one!

I don’t live in a dry climate (in fact, this winter is very wet – so much rain…), so I don’t think I have to worry about cracking. When I’m not using the tea, I store it in the box it came in.

I’m happy with it. Can’t complain about anything!

Nicole said

I live in a fairly humid place most of the year but didn’t know about what to do with bamboo when not using all the time and now my little travel tray leaks like a sieve.

yyz said

Nicole you might want to try a ceramic or clay one. I honestly use mine more than my Bamboo one.

Nicole said

Good suggestion, yyz. Right now I just put the travel tray on a plastic tray. Looks pretty since the plastic tray is butterfly covered, but doesn’t really go with the aesthetics of the rest of tea time. :)

And gawd but you people are horrible influences. I am unsubscribing from this thread, the sales thread…. :)

yyz said

Mine, is like the dragon pattern of this one. I bought it in China Town. It is pretty deep which makes it nice if you like to rinse your tea ware.

I like the aesthetics of this style.
http://s.aliexpress.com/3uQJR3aM

You can sometimes find some cheap stainless steel ones as well.

OMGsrsly said

Oh wow. I really like that second one, yyz!

Nicole said

Wow, those are both really, really nice.

boychik said

Is there any stainless steel on Aliexpress? I would love one

yyz said

There have been some in the past. I had some lovely dragon etched ones in my wish list at one time. Do you want a circular or a rectangular one? How deep do you want it? I’ve seen the rectangular ones lately and almost bought one in China Town recently.

yyz said

There is this one on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/25cm-Diameter-Stainless-Steel-Chinese-Traditional-Tea-Tray-Silver-Tone/351508497525?trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131017132637%26meid%3D98ba2e9def764a019345010437162ac5%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D111740937208

Or a smaller onehttp://www.ebay.ca/itm/Houeshold-Handy-Round-Shaped-21-5cm-Diameter-Tea-Tray-Lid-Silver-Tone-/201428041608?hash=item2ee60bff88:g:nW0AAOSwVL1WCW0G

They have the larger size as well.

The rectangular ones on ali seem a little expensive right now since I can get a similar one in China Town for 9.95.

It’s so cool yyz, I’m gonna look into them. Thanks ;)
