Sweet green tea.

Does anyone know of any green teas that just generally taste sweet and not grassy? (without having to add any sugars/ect..)

If you are looking for the benefits (maybe antioxidants) of green tea, then you could look into Green Rooibos (or blended/flavored teas with the base as green rooibos). It has as much or more than green tea.
As the other thread stated, Chinese green teas are not as grassy either.

True tea has approx the same amount of antioxidants from one tea to another, but yes green rooibos apparently has even more than red rooibos. But it, of course, is not a true tea if that is what you’re looking for.

Hmm. I should try some of these Chinese teas.

I really don’t care much for health, I mainly just like good drinks, and if it happens to be good for me than I am just lucky :) lol

You could try some flavored green teas? Those typically mask the grassiness… of course if you ask me I think Jasmine Pearls are amazing! But you would have to really like floraly teas to appreciate it. ;-)

Actually a REALLY fruity green tea that just came to mind was 52teas Fruit Cocktail! It’s WAY too fruity and sweet for my liking, but if you like Maraschino cherries ALOT this would be a really good green to try. I couldn’t even taste the least little bit of green tea due to the such strong fruity flavor! And another plus – their tea is cheap and they have free shipping!

I wish they’d come out w/ another matcha- fruity (or otherwise flavored) matcha is a good stepping stone!:)

True…but doesn’t most of the flavored matchas have added sugar in them? Not sure if he is looking for one that has sugar in the mix already?

But on another note I just placed a rather large order with Lupicia yesterday and I ordered their Matcha Au Lait (plain) and I did have their Strawberry flavored one in my basket, but decided that I had already ALOT of strawberry flavored teas in my basket so I opted out at the last minute, but I wish I would have went ahead and tried it since I’ve never had a flavored matcha before :-(

Cofftea said

Some of Lupicia’s Matcha au Laits do:( I’m talking pure flavored matcha like 52teas or Art of Tea where it’s just the flavoring and matcha.

I really don’t mind if there is sugars in them (as I will most likely put sugar or honey in it anyways).
I am just kinda looking for something that has a sweet/smooth taste by default, you know?

I also have been really considering the Matcha stuff, and has been hesitant so far on if I should or not.

I got sucked into loose leaf for the health hype- had to add mint to EVERYTHING at first, but eventually stayed for the taste.

I like mint, I believe my little sister is growing some outside in the garden right now :)

I recommend teas like bi lo chun, it is a sweet tasting green tea. Of course these non-grassy types require a little more precision. I just got white monkey from thepuritea, and it is sweet too. But sweet is not quite sugary, it is very mellow sweet.

Hblamo said

Yea, thats kinda like what I am looking for, a just light, sweet flavor. (I will check these out!)

I recommend the Hangzhou Shi Feng Long Jing from Tea Valley. It has very, very little vegetative taste, and what vegetative taste there is – doesn’t taste grassy. It’s sweet and one of the most delightful green teas I’ve tasted in a long time.

Hblamo said

I will check that out!
Thanks!

If you mix your teas that is the best way to go in my opinion! Get a nice jasmine or silver leaf tea and then pair it with a raspberry rose petal or starberry herbal. That way the fruit adds the sweetenss and takes away the grassy flavor of the green tea and you still get the benifit of the green tea :) delish both iced and hot :)

I have been meaning to try some Silver Leaf Tea, it sounds good from what I’ve heard.

But I really need to stock up a bit more on my loose leaf tea before I can start mixing :P (As I only have a bit at the time)

My husband is from the South and will only drink sweet(er) teas. I found a Savannah Sweet Green Tea from Element Tea that he loves. And, there is no sugar added to it.

I have been getting into sweet tea too, and would love to get rid of the two cups of sugar….

In my opinion the most delicate and naturally sweet is japanese asamushi (light-steamed ) Shincha – the first tea of the season, very smooth and delicate taste, It’s not grassy at all! You won’t find any bitterness in this tea.

Shincha is fantastic:)

Try a milk oolong…be sensitive that there are synthetically flavoured milk oolong, ask your tea seller…not sweet but the aroma of milk makes the tea appear to be sweet…and great for your health…

Hblamo said

I will look at givin oolong a try (been thinking about doing so for a wile)

They are not greens, but green oolongs and pouchongs as well as sheng pu erh have a lot of the qualities of green teas- just not the grassy notes:)

Hblamo said

I really need to try this pu erh stuff… Haha

Yes you do:)
