Favorite Tea Books?
I’d vote for Jeff Fuchs’ book The Ancient Tea Horse Road , which is both a great tea book (focussing on puers) and a great travel / adventure tale.
This is a wonderful book! Following the travels of a tea lover from China to Tibet and filled with lots of tea lore. The teatrekker Mary Lou Heiss wrote a wonderful review on Amazon.com about this book at: http://amzn.to/jaPuqi
I recently read For All the Tea in China by Sarah Rose, I found it very entertaining and intelligently written… at points it was easy to forget that I was reading history and not a fictional story!
My aunt got me Meditations with Tea by Diana Rosen. I’ve tried some of the relaxation techniques while i’m here at school. Also good for someone new to tea as it explains about various types of tea like earl grey and darjarling and what they are supposed to taste like.
Joy’ Teaspoon has an official book club (Carp Eyes Coming) and we have come across a ton of book recommendations. That being said, we have compiled a list of tea books, tea fiction, etc. Just a nice little resource and we always love recommendations for anything we accidentally left off!
Just reading Aaron Fisher’s latest book: The Way of Tea: Reflections on a Life with Tea
Starts out with Tao philosophy, then through the history of tea in China and Japan… I am very much enjoying it, but the Chinese and Japanese characters don’t show up on my Kindle, and Fisher’s artworks are too small to view properly, so I recommend you get the hardcover on this one.
I enjoyed this more than most tea books I’ve seen / read, though it’s not a general “introduction to tea” type book. http://www.amazon.com/Tea-Lovers-Travel-Diary-Single-Tree/dp/0982654006
We also have a book available that gives a much deeper understanding of the philosophy of tea we observe at our store. It was developed by the tea master and his following whom first introduced the co-founders of Cloudwalker Teas to fine Chinese tea in Taiwan a number of years ago. You can order it here if you’re interested:
I have some of my tea books listed on my Goodreads account (along with ratings for most of the ones I’ve read): http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/2841909-will?shelf=tea
One of my favourite tea books (completely forgot until recently) is: “A passage to Chinese Tea”. I’m not entirely sure it can be found in North America, but it is one of the most comprehensive books about Chinese tea, gong fu cha, and tea history that I have found, with excellent tea descriptors, illustrations, pictures, etc. ISBN# 983-99488-0-6. I highly recommend to anyone really getting into Chinese tea…
