VerdantTea - free international shipping gone? :(

Hi,
I wanted to make yet another monster-order with Verdant, but was disappointed to find out that there is no international free shipping for orders above $XYZ. When did this happen and why?

Now I have to look for another shop which sells tea with precise information and background story about it…

What??? They had it yesterday when I checked yet again if they had LBCG available. Today they do but I’m not paying for shipping. I was going to place a (for me) large order. I’ll watch this thread and see what happens.

The shipping faq still says free over $50.

The FAQ only says:
“Canadian orders that are below our listed Free Shipping threshold will ship for an $8.50 flat rate. The flat rate shipping and handling for all other international orders is $11.50.”

“Free shipping is provided for all orders of $49 or more withib the United States and Canada.”

I was thinking only of Canada rather than truly international which was selfish of me. Whoops.

Hi ScRyX – I’m sorry I didn’t see your thread earlier!

You are correct – although we were once able to offer free international shipping when we first opened, we haven’t been able to offer a free international shipping threshold for over a year now. That’s because about a year ago, USPS (our main shipping method) significantly raised their shipping prices. This was especially true for shipments outside of the US and Canada. That’s when we had to change to one simple, flat fee for all international (outside US / Canada) orders – the flat $11.50 shipping charge helps us to cover part of the cost, and we cover the rest, no matter the size of the shipment.

One of our biggest ongoing projects is revamping and updating our entire shipping model. I know that some of our strongest supporters are based outside of the US and Canada. Ultimately, my goal is to allow more flexibility and transparency in shipping costs: perhaps letting each person to choose the shipping method that works best for them (be it USPS, FedEx / UPS, or even EMS), and partnering with more carriers for better options. Part of that means a big revamp and redesign of the way our website works, and part of it is a huge project we’ve been working on with fulfillment, both here in Minnesota and with our friends in China. It is a high priority for us.

We want to be able to offer the most reliable shipping we can to the most folks at the best price. We are working on fundamental improvements to the way Verdant Tea works that should bring more improvements, even as the global costs of doing business go up.

I really appreciate hearing from our customers and from tea lovers all around the world – thank you so much for posting here! I grew up in Indonesia, Angola, South Africa and the UK as well as US, so I definitely understand how frustrating international shipping charges (and customs shenanigans, and delayed packages, and… !) can be.

If I can ever answer more questions, you can always send me a private message here on Steepster, or write to us directly at [email protected]

I may not be able to write back right away – we are in the middle of setting up and doing renovations on a new brewery and retail space all this week- so my apologies ahead of time if it takes me a day to respond. We’ll also be in China visiting all of our friends Nov 16th – 3rd, and it’s hard to know whether or not Steepster will be caught behind The Great Firewall. Either way, I am here to answer any questions and help out in any way I can. Don’t be a stranger!
