Temperature Controlled Kettles

I have one of the Adagio Teas temperature controlled tea kettles and love it but need to get a new one for the office. They have discontinued making that model for some reason.

Does anyone have the Melitta 1.7-Liter Cordless Kettle? See below:

Any other recommendations in that price range? Thanks.

I have the 1.7L Bonavita variable temp kettle, as does my partner, and it’s wonderful. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made.

I’ve only had it for a few months but I’ve had no issues at all.

Amazon has it for about $35 http://www.amazon.com/Bonavita-1-7-Liter-Variable-Temperature-Electric/dp/B008YE3RNG/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1417800076&sr=1-2&keywords=bonavita+variable+temperature+kettle

Thanks – is that stainless steel on the inside? or plastic?

The inside is stainless. There’s a small piece of plastic on the interior at the top, to hold the spout screen (which is also plastic), and the lid is plastic. If you didn’t want/need the spout screen, you could remove the plastic bits that might come into contact with your water – the spout itself is metal, and the plastic bit is just attached with tension clips, no screws or anything.

Great thanks.

I have this one too. I love it, excepting the fact that the temp controls are on the base and not on the kettle itself, but that is a minor annoyance.

The inside of the kettle has two small silicone o-rings that let water travel to the PLASTIC water gauge on the underside of the handle so you can see how much water is in the kettle. The actual boiling action doesn’t take place near the water gauge though, and most all of these style kettles have water gauges (except the 1.7L Bonavita gooseneck) so it’s up to you on whether that’s a big deal or not.

I also own this kettle, and love it. I bought it for college over the summer, and it’s been serving my dorm room spectacularly. No problems so far!

All suggestions are great kettles. The Adagio UtiliTea Kettle will be back in stock in early 2015. The Cuisinart PerfercTemp Kettle is a very popular, reliable kettle with controls on the handle. It’s a little more money but for variable temperature options it may be good investment. http://everythingfortea.com/product-category/electric-tea-kettles/

I have the Hamilton Beach one: http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-40996-Programmable-1-7-Liter/dp/B0083I7THI/ref=pd_sim_hg_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=12RDXEJ4HX24FMEG6VXA

It’s great. Reheats when the temperature drops. The only problem is if you want your water to stay at say, boiling, it will wait until it drops way down to like 199 to reheat. Also if you set the temperature to 190, it will heat to 195 in anticipation of the kettle cooling down to 185-190, so if you want your water to be an EXACT temperature (not give or take 10 degrees) you’ll have to keep checking the temperature gauge before you pour. I don’t know if it’s better for the other kettles, but with this one it’s pretty easy to adjust to this small (for me) issue.
