Yerba Mate from Adagio Teas
67

12 oz water
3.2g yerba mate

The nose is like a very light puerh, earthy with a slight lingering sweetness. Clean damp straw.

There is again a straw like flavor, light and not remotely close to being bitter. It is somewhat delicate of a flavor, i’ll have to play with the amount of tea and water ratio.

I could see this lending itself to be over flavored, as it would easily allow the other flavors to show through.

I hate the serving recommendations, 1 teaspoon per cup… is that a 6oz cup, 8oz std measure, or a cup as in a 10oz mug. Is 1 teaspoon level or heaping? Just give me grams and ounces.

Masterpiece Chai from Liber Teas
Keemun Xian Zhen from TeaSpring
86

4g tea,
12oz water

Dark amber color in steep. There is a very pleasant sweet aroma. Light notes of cocoa maybe some molasses. On the palette it is a very smooth tea, with slight astringent sensation on the finish. None of the flavors are overwhelming, but subtle and layered. It seems a bit difficult to really pick any out.

Lao Cong Shui Xian from TeaSpring
85

4g tea
12 oz water
Amber infusion

Woodsy aroma.

The liquor is smooth going down. It is slightly sweet. I did not get any menthol that the description claims. Nor any medicinal taste. It’s pretty good.

Jun Shan Huang Mao Jian from TeaSpring

4g tea
12 oz water
Infused to a Light pale yellow
Sweet woodsy aroma. Light flavor. Reminds me of a lighter flavored white peony. Smooth and sorta creamy sensation. Not really any astringency or bitterness. It’s nice.

Zhu Hai Jin Ming from TeaSpring
77

4g tea
12 oz water
…left the desk, so not sure on steep time.
Dark amber infusion
Lengthy aftertaste of slight malt.
Smooth, not a bad tea. Again though, nothing spectacular.

Very similar to Sichuan Gongfu also from teaspring.

Sichuan Gongfu from TeaSpring
77

4g
12oz water

Light amber in color. Sweet, slightly malty aroma

Fairly mild taste, not bitter, not astringent. It’s enjoyable. But nothing spectacular.

Will try a longer steep see if anything more comes out.

Red Robe from thepuriTea
79

4.3g tea
12oz water

Dark honey color. Heavy earthy aroma. Almost like roasted sunflower seeds maybe. This was a very smooth tea, not a hint of bitter or astringency. Maybe some slight notes of caramel.

Hong Jing Luo from thepuriTea
71

6g tea
16 oz

Not the sweet potato that i remember. a bit astringent but not too bitter. I’ve have migrated a bit lately to drinking black teas iced. I think this one may follow that trend as well.

Zealong Dark from Chicago Tea Garden
85

4g tea
about 5 oz water
Zealong’s website suggests about 5g per 5oz, so thats why the low amount of water.

Aroma is strong and nutty and finishes with a lingering sweetness.

The color is a light pale yellow. The leaves were rather large and dark, they have not unfurled completely.

This is a very smooth tea, the flavor does not come across nearly as strong as the aroma. There is no bitterness, no astringency. The subtle flavors may be overwhelmed by the stronger iced Assam i just finished prior. Will have to see if the re-steeps alleviate that and maybe adjust the rating higher.

Huang Jin Gui from Teas Etc
76

2nd steep
4g tea
12oz water

There is sweetness element to this, that seems to linger on the tongue for 5 to 10 seconds. This second steep is still quite pleasant and very smooth. It has not gotten bitter or astringent.

Eastern Beauty from Teavana
68

4.4g tea
12 oz water

Steeped to the color of light honey. There is a bit of sweetness mixed in with some maltyness on the nose. As it has cooled a bit i think i get a bit of licorice. There is light body to this tea (at least this steep). I was expecting a bit more. Its not bitter or astringent. Not a bad overall tea.

Jasmine #12 from Adagio Teas
73

4.5g tea
12 oz water

I lowered the steep time further on this tea to just 1 min. I also increased the amount of tea a bit as well. I liked out this one turned out as the jasmine wasn’t as overpowering as i seemed to remember in my previous steeps of this.

Ti Kuan Yin from thepuriTea
69

4g
12oz water

This is a decent ti kuan yin. Nothing special about it, or overly strong. A good candidate for an easy daily drinker.

Silver Needle from thepuriTea
81

4g tea
12 oz water

The steep looks almost as if the water didn’t change color. However there is definitely an aroma and color to this. It is woodsy and has quite a sweet finish that lingers gently in the aftertaste. This tea inspires a taste similar to its aroma. Its not bad.

Ali Shan from thepuriTea
51

4g tea
12 oz water

The tea was surprisingly weak in aromtics and flavor. Maybe i didn’t steep it right. I get a faint sweetness on the nose. The flavor doesn’t delivery much, besides the slight aftertaste seems like warm water. Will have to retry this for a longer steep to see if its repeatable.

Dan Cong from thepuriTea
83

4.4 g tea (1/2 of sample order size)
12 oz water

The aroma from opening this tea immediately smelled rich. It steeped to a dark golden yellow. This tea flavor wise does not seem to pack a punch. It is complex. There seem to be some woodsy elements. I can sense the nectarine in the description a bit. There is a slight astringency on the tongue that i felt tighten. Then It carries a pleasant aftertaste for a bit.

After a few drinks, i’ve paired with a blueberry scone (wegmans) and it has paired nicely. The scone has completely cut out that bit of astringency. Overall this was a pretty good cup.

Roasted Dong Ding from thepuriTea
86

12oz water
4g tea

The leaves are dark green. Some are broken, they seem to have a jagged edge. Golden infusion. The aroma smells roasted is really all i can think of. There is just a bit of astringency on the tongue that you can feel tighten up ever so slightly. It has a lingering sweet aftertaste.

Jasmine #12 from Adagio Teas
73

Had this a second time. I lowered the steep time in an attempt to reduce the jasmine impact. I thought it did a decent job of that and made the tea seem more drinkable to me. Otherwise was just too much jasmine.

Ginger Peach (Green) from The Republic of Tea
32

Got this as a free sample w/ the catalog.

I just don’t really care for this, or perhaps flavored teas in general.

Golden Monkey from Teas Etc
79

4g tea
12oz water
Dark amber color. Aromas of malt and sweet potato. Very sweet aroma. The taste was a bit less than than the aroma was leading on. Not as strong of the flavor malty sweet potatoe flavor that was lead on. Not bad though.

Jasmine Tea from TeaSpring
34
Orange Dulce from Mighty Leaf Tea
34

12oz water
4g tea
Amber steep

Just didn’t like this. the aroma seems artificial to me and it just tastes off. couldn’t finish it.

Tai Ping Hou Kui from TeaSpring

4g
12 oz
Light yellow steep.
Dry Leaves are long and rolled just a bit. They a great shade of green. There is a almost pine smooky aroma to this. The tea does not seem to have much of a body. It tastes like it smells though.
