drank Jasmine Ginger Twist by DAVIDsTEA

I’ve been kind of AWOL the last few years. A mix of life just getting busy after university and not drinking many new teas as I was (and still am) trying to get my cupboard down.

I got this one for Christmas. I have been on an unsuccessful hunt to find a ginger tea that really packs a ginger punch. Unfortuantely this isn’t quite there. Overall, all the flavours and pretty mellow while still being present in a way that very much works but isn’t necessarily what I’m looking for. I definitely enjoyed it, but don’t think this is on my list to rebuy.

Had this for the first time in a while tonight. I’m not sure it’s fair to say I was disappointed; I still really like this tea. I just found that towards the end of my cup/pot things were starting to get a little bitter. That’s not exactly surprising considering it’s a green tea and I think I was mostly caused by little flecks of tea making it through my tea basket and then oversteeping, which isn’t entirely surprising considering I’m getting down to the bottom of my tin where there’s probably smaller leaves. I don’t think it helped that I only steeped this two minutes so I didn’t get that intense marzipan flavour I love from this one either. All in all it was enjoyable at first, but not so much towards the end. Not going to change my rating though.

As a bit of an afterthought, it probably doesn’t help that this tea is getting a bit old. I should really know better than to buy 100g of any tea…

drank Strawberry Lemonade by DAVIDsTEA

Went to the mall today and after the hot bus ride was really craving an iced tea. Decided I wanted to do something citrus-y so I decided to go with this.

I can definitely hit the spot on the citrus notes. It was pretty much like drinking watered down juice. I don’t know if this screams “Strawberry Lemonade” to me though, considering I’d actually forgotten I decided to go with this one instead of Orange Passion-fruit. Still, not a bad tea. I personally found it kind of of similar to a rosé sangria I once had, which was more on the grapefruity side.

Despite limited baggage space coming back from Europe I just HAD to get this tea because it smelled so good.

First thing I was struck by is the colour. It brews up an impressively dark blue-green that I was not expecting, especially considering a reasonably short steep time at 2 minutes. It is beautiful and I almost wish I had made it up in a glass teapot just to really get the full effect.

In terms of taste, this is a lovely ginger and citrus tea and is by no means unpleasant. That being said, I really would’ve like a bit more of a ginger kick. Then again, I think I do often find French teas kind of lacking in ginger even when it’s a prominent tasting note. I think I’m just looking for something that really delivers a strong ginger kick and I’m not looking in the right places.

Picked this up on a trip to Portugal and tried it the other day. Honestly I have to say I can’t really remember it. It wasn’t noticeably bad but it also wasn’t even remotely memorable. I could probably drink it for hours without really being able to recall what it tastes like.

Recently went to Paris and actually got a chance to go to Mariage Freres and while I didn’t have the bag space or budget to get everything I wanted to (i.e. the entire store), I had to get some of this because it smells absolutely amazing.

Taste wise, this is very similar to how it smell. Very floral and almost perfume-y, though not strictly in a bad way. This reminds me pretty strongly of a jasmine tea. The oolong base is nice but definitely overpowered by the floral notes.

Definitely an enjoyable cup

drank Strawberry Shake by DAVIDsTEA

Now I wasn’t really planning on trying this one but I actually ended up getting this as one of my free 50g of tea after I had a sample in store because it is surprisingly good.

It hits the whole “strawberry shake” thing bang on. It’s creamy and strawberry-y and impressively good. The green tea base is rather nice and not totally missing too.

Not much else to say, honestly.

drank Lemon Pound Cake by DAVIDsTEA

So I really wanted to try this one when it came out last year because I LOVE lemon pound cake, but I never got around to it. I’ve also really come to like oolongs in the last 6 months or so, so I decided to take a risk and just get this as one of my free 50g of tea as it was about to expire and there wasn’t anything I really wanted to stock up on.

Like a lot of teas from DAVID’s these days, particularly the more gimmicky ones, I have mixed feelings about this one. While drinking it, I find it tastes very much like Froot Loops, which is not strictly unpleasant, but it’s not a flavour I’m really after.

But the aftertaste… Spot on lemon pound cake with a slightly lemony frosting. And unlikely a lot of DAVID’s cake teas, this one isn’t drying at all. The lemon notes in the aftertaste manage to come off as not artificial, unlike when you’re actually drinking the tea, and there’s a lovely creaminess that is just to die for.

So I brewed up a pot of this. Nothing special, just kind of trying to slowing get through it and it seemed like a good option given it’s the snowpocalypse outside.

And then I forgot about the last cup for about 2 hours…

Obviously it was ice cold by the time I found it. I know I could’ve heated it up, but it didn’t really seem worth it for a tiny cup of tea so I just drank it cold.

And it was really good!

Still not stellar; I’ve always found this tea kind of lacking and it’s definitely getting on in years now too, which doesn’t help (I think I got it 3 Christmases ago…). However, I found the flavour profile a little more complex when it was cold, which was really nice. I would definitely consider having this intentionally iced in the future.

drank English Toffee by DAVIDsTEA

After taking my first sip my first thought was “wow, the really hit the nail on the head with this one.” The toffee notes were so spot on. Unfortunately, toffee has never been one of my favourites, so this isn’t a perfect tea for me, but if your looking for toffee, this is it.

One weird thing is that I kind of found it smelled like Kraft Dinner, and that association kind of made it taste like Kraft Dinner, but I managed to get over it.

Overall, definitely a good tea for a toffee lover but I wouldn’t personally buy it again.
