Backlog. I got ten grams of this and chucked it all into my glass jug and cold brewed a batch. I swear the acai is more pomegranate. Initially, I liked the idea of green rooibos in here but it doesn’t seem to translate well here. It comes across as slightly bitter and not as refreshing as it does in other blends, like say Swampwater.

The blueberry is only a whisper. Eh, not the best but at least it quenched my thirst for the day.

Back on the Island! I wanted to stop in at a DT today but I think I’ll leave that for tomorrow. Most of my teas are packed away at the back of the closet so I’ll need to fish those out. I feel so disoriented here! The last of this was tucked away in the lazy susan so that made things easier, at least.

Blah blah blah. Reading the description, either my taste buds have completely lost focus or… I don’t know, but this doesn’t come off as honey-ish or even floral. I get burnt toast. Verrrrry toasty. Maybe a little bit of brown sugar but mostly dry toast.

I’m also experiencing a mineral note in subsequent steeps. I’m going to call it quits at steep number three.

Edit: Yeah, didn’t care for the ride but I am sure others would appreciate it.

drank Lemon Tea by Snapple
1792 tasting notes

You know how I was whining about residence kicking students out during the winter break? Someone finally got back to me and said that grad students are allowed to stay after all! So perhaps I should accept, but I only have three days left, so let’s hope they could get the contract and money in three days. Got to make up my mind soon!

So this tea, if we should call it that. I’ve had a tall boy of this in my mom’s cupboard since last year. No Frill’s had them on sale for like 50 cents a piece so why not. Had it chilling in the fridge, just cracked it open, and it reminds me of my childhood. Well, more accurately, when I was 10- to 13-years-old. That’s when I got into Lipton Brisk iced tea. Used to crave it, even after basketball practice.

But yeah, it’s super sweet, but not bad.

Fuzzy_Peachkin

I used to drink Snapple all the time. I tried one the other day and could barely drink it because it was so sweet!

Fjellrev

I know, right? I actually felt kind of sick after I was finished despite the fact that it took me six hours to drink.

When I was a kid, my family went out to this restaurant which served brewed iced tea. Being on my Brisk kick, I jumped on board, and the waitress even warned me that it’s brewed so it won’t be nearly as sweet as what I’m probably used to. She was so right! I barely drank it. Stupid kid, I’m sure I’d appreciate it a lot more now.

drank Holiday Chai by Stash Tea
1792 tasting notes

This may be unfair to rate since someone from a perfume forum sent this to me a few years ago and I just found it in my mom’s cupboard. It’s old so of course you can’t expect much.

Sure enough it tastes like watery cinnamon water with some weird, almost astringent clove. I’m sure it would have been much better had I enjoyed it when I got it.

A while ago, my mom said, “I don’t want it that way” so now I have the Backstreet Boys in my head.

Tell me why
Bagged tea makes my taste buds weep
Holiday Chai
It’s not worth more than one steep
Tell me why
Stale tea is so passé
Get off my tea tray

Lala

HA HA HA HA! I will never be able to listen to that song again without laughing!

canadianadia

oh no! now it’s stuck in my head too! :o

TheTeaFairy

Haha! good one :-) I like the «get off my tea tray» , nice conclusion!

mrs.stenhouse12

LOL this made me laugh. I just sang it aloud to my boyfriend, he thinks this tea site is nuts. :D

TheTeaFairy

MissLena, I’d say your boyfriend is…ABSOLUTELY RIGHT :-)

Fuzzy_Peachkin

haha! Love that version of the lyrics!

TeaLady441

Hahah. Nicely said, even if it’s in my head!

Starfevre

That is hysterical. Ha.

drank The Malt Shop by Della Terra Teas

Crazy me tried this cold steeped. It turned out better than expected! It tastes more like chocolate espresso than a malt ball, and although that may seem like a weird flavour to experience cold, it reminds me of iced coffee. I wonder what it would be like if I added milk? I think I’ll do that when I have about 1/3 of the pint left. Maybe. I don’t know, we just may have a wimp out on our hands.

More cold brew for me. This batch definitely tastes better that way. Not as sweet and more toasty rice for the win. I’d like to finish a bit more tea before going back to the Island so there would be less to take back! Cold brewing takes care of that.

Ok, off topic, but what should I make of this? I got accepted into university residence for the fall. Sounds great, right? Especially with one year to go, it would sooner make sense to do that then to have to buy all new furniture (since my previous roommate provided the furniture in the current place I’m in). I read the contract, and lo and behold, they kick you out for three weeks around Christmas/Winter break. Whaaaat? Where does a person go if you are supposed to stay and do your research? Or have a job? Or if you’re an international student and can’t go home? Apparently if you’re caught on the premises they can evict you or something. So this may be a deal breaker. I mean, has anyone ever heard of such a thing before?

End slightly perplexed rant.

Mercuryhime

I have heard of this happening at several different universities. They don’t want to staff the place or want to do minor renovations and such while the population would naturally be low anyway. It sucks for those who actually need a place to stay.

Fjellrev

Wow, well in a way, it doesn’t surprise me since you’d think other universities must be doing this too. Just that the other universities I attended didn’t do this, and friends who have attended others yet never ran into this too. It’s rather irrational.

Uniquity

My university did that. You had to be out 24 hours after your last exam. I hated that. I paid the same as everyone lse but had to leave earlier because of my exam schedule. I was lucky enough to be able to go home but others had trouble finding accomodations. Maybe they will arrange something if you talk to them.

Fjellrev

The same 24 hour rule applies here too! I was thinking about that, how it’s unfair to students who finish early but pay the same. I don’t even have exams as a grad student, but have papers to write, so huh, they’d still expect you to leave as soon as exams start even though you may have a paper to finish off. I’m thinking of not even bothering at all, because I have no idea how my research will go and how long I would need to stay.

Dinosara

Yeah, all of my dorms were like that (although it wasn’t tied to your finals but rather a specific date for everyone). They don’t want to staff a whole big dorm for one or two people staying in it since most dorms have a front desk attendant and such. For international students and students who couldn’t leave there was one dorm that stayed open and had extra rooms that you could stay in for 3 weeks.

Kittenna

I’ve heard of that too, and while that makes sense for undergrads, it definitely does not for graduate students! My only suggestion is to ask and see what can possible be done about it. Maybe they have a single dorm or something like Dinosara is referring to.

OMGsrsly

It usually depends on the dorms. At UBC there is year round housing for students with disabilities, graduate students, international students, and just students who want a place to be “theirs” while they’re in school. It costs more, but they’re really nice. A friend had one for a while.

Fjellrev

Wow, thanks for all the feedback! I completely understand that they’d want to cut staffing during that time, but Kittenna, for sure, it’s not very compatible with grad student life/responsibilities. Glad to hear that UBC offers year round housing, just like U of A. I just really feel bad for the international students.

I think I’ll pass and look for an apartment off campus or something.

drank Coconut Oolong by Zen Tea
1792 tasting notes

Another hearty sipdown. I’ve been sick over the past couple days. Picked up the “stomach flu” from someone at the community garage sale, so I’ve been restricted to water up until now.

Even though I’m still super dehydrated, I finished this up à la cold brew. I prefer DT’s and hope one of the stores still has some, but this is pretty good too.

Terri HarpLady

You’d probably like the coconut oolong from the London Tea room, it’s very tasty. Let me know if you’d like a sample :)

Fjellrev

That is so nice of you! Looks like we need to do a swap sometime, but I have such a slim selection. :( I keep meaning to get into the swapping business but am worried about packaging things wrong, not having the time, etc.

Ugggggh, what a day. The community garage sale is this weekend, so when I was rushing to get to my grandma’s, since my mom and I are teaming up with her, I backed into the garage door. The sad part is my mom did it a couple times before, and I THOUGHT I learned from that second-hand, but just the series of events led up to it. There goes all the garage sale money to fix it. :(

It’s been rainy on and off today, tons of mosquitoes, so Anxi Fo Shou seems appropriate. I think I actually prefer the first infusion. It’s the most cocoa-y, and I’m not crazy over the mineral notes that strengthen with every subsequent infusion.

What a stupid day.

canadianadia

aww…I hope tomorrow is better for you

TheTeaFairy

Bummer! At least, no one got hurt, right?

Fjellrev

Thanks, everyone has those days. :)

And we’re alright! You’re right, that’s the most important part.

Had this for breakfast yesterday and today. I know I know, sorry my notes have been supremely boring. I only brought an x amount of tea to my mom’s with me.

I normally prefer it cold but I’ve been drinking it hot with soy over the past couple days and it’s wonderful. Vanilla is such a perfect flavour. Now I want more vanilla teas (well, that’s not new).

And now I’ve moved onto this one for dessert pt. II. Added a little bit of Silk soy. Hmm, I’m tasting that artificial sweetness more than before. Perhaps because I just finished a cup of S’mores which doesn’t have that, so the contrast is there.

Should I feel bad for not steeping multiple times? I’m not going to, and to be honest, I rarely do with these kinds of teas. I’m impatient and want to move onto something else but don’t want to store the steeped leaves anywhere either!
