1792 Tasting Notes
Aww, it’s a sip down. Although I’m going to miss this one, if this were offered again, I probably wouldn’t spring for another pouch. I’d like more cheesecake, please.
But that’s my problem right there. I think I expect too much than what may be realistic when it comes to additional flavours.
I really shouldn’t be on here right now, but I need to shout out how much I’m enjoying this tea. I burned through half the 1 oz. bag in the past few days.
The dry leaf smells heavenly. Creamy vanilla mint. It’s more like white chocolate than dark or milk. Like these little guys but mintier:

As for the taste, it’s creamy cocoa butter vanilla mint. Definitely different than Swiss Mountain. The base is really light and doesn’t get in the way, which I kind of like since I’m looking to taste the vanilla/white chocolate and mint anyway.
I was bad and just ordered 100g of this, amongst other things, using DTT’s 30% off code.
Oh noes, only four 1 oz. bags are left and the rest of the sizes are sold out. The time is ticking.
One thing I’ve noticed is this company is very generous with sales. Granted, that may just be their strategy to lure people in, but whatever, everyone wins in the end.
That’s a bold move, really. I’m bad at getting stuck at ordering over and over again from the same company. Took me forever to try DTT as it is. Which company did you order from?
This tea has sure taken me on a ride. First of all, the dry leaf smells intoxicating. Swirls of fresh orange zest with a squeeze of grapefruit, topped with a pinch of cinnamon. It’s exactly what I’m looking for in an orange spice tea.
The cinnamon comes out more once steeped. But the real confusion happens with the flavour.
First couple sips, alright, it’s citrusy, a little spicy. I was actually expecting more cinnamon but that is not a complaint.
But as this started to cool off, there was something in here that reminded me of something else. What is it? Is it a vegetable? I think it’s a potato or something. No, no it’s not. It’s something I get at a Japanese restaurant. Huh. Halfway through the second cup, I was getting warmer. It’s something with tempura batter on it. Eureka! It’s broccoli tempura. That semi-green base must be playing mind games with me.
I will see when I drink this next time if this bento box lunch special will be jumping out of my cup again.
I know they call it a semi-green, but I remember being told that it’s a puerh, they just classify it weird in-store. Oh yeah (reading webpage). It’s a puerh on their website, semi-green in the ingredients. But it’s a weird puerh, isn’t it?
Sitting in the library analyzing a Swedish textbook, which I used many moons ago, for a paper. Simultaneously brings back memories and makes me feel old. On that note, the name of this tea makes me wish I were in Zürich again. Sigh.
As for this tea, peeps are right. This smells like After Eight. Compared to DT’s Read My Lips, the peppermint has more POW. It’s cooler and evokes images of After Eight’s luscious, creamy centre.
Steeped, it smells almost the same, but as for the taste, this is definitely more pepperminty. Also less sugary, probably because the mint brittle in this isn’t just plain sugar like the candy lips you get in Read My Lips. The chocolate is a little darker too.
I should really stop comparing things. But that’s how my world works, yo.
Meh. Comparisons are useful! Especially for tgose who’ve had more of DavidsTea than Della Terra, For me, this just reaffirms that I should get more of this instead of ordering Read My Lips.
Ah, too bad you don’t have a store nearby, because then you could just order it to go or get 10g. Maybe you’ll luck out and get a sample of it in one of your orders! Because you never know, you may end up liking RML more? It depends on what you like.
I figured out the major difference, it’s the peppercorns in RML! I have to taste test again but I much prefer the Shamrocks and Shenanigans so far. And I might prefer this one to RML too if I give it a fair (unbiased) chance
(I can see how that may have been obvious to others but it’s been awhile since I drank RML and when rereading the label I was like “OH, that’s why it smells so spicy compared to the other two!”)
Hmmm… IDK about the peppercorns. I guess I could get it as a go-cup someday, but I seem to like DTT’s chocolate teas more than Davids so I should just make a DTT order. :P
I think the peppercorns are what bumps RML to the bottom of the 3 for me, now that I’ve had the chance to taste 2 similar ones. Poor RML, we used to be so close.
The odd part is for me, the peppercorns don’t seem to make a difference. They’ve been really sparse in both bags I bought in the past, so the one or two that end up in my pot (I usually brew two cups) don’t do anything anyway.
I still need to try the Shamrocks and Shenanigans. I hope the little shamrock candies won’t make it too sweet.
But I agree, so far, I prefer DTT’s chocolate.
Over the past couple days, I got the idea of trying JagaSilk Aztec hot chocolate with Red Leaf English Toffee matcha. As much as I like the former, lately, I feel like it’s been a little ho-hum, and as for the latter, I just got out of the habit of drinking matcha on a regular basis. So much sense, this makes!
I prepared this on the stove top with two teaspoons of hot chocolate powder, around one teaspoon of the matcha, and a cup of soy milk. The result is fantastic. The caramel flavour in the matcha really complements the chocolate, and the matcha seems to bring out more of the heat in the hot chocolate.
A crazed Lime Jello Salad green fan, I’ve been curious to see how this one compares. That day has finally come.
I had a hunch it wouldn’t be as good seeing that there is no marshmallow in this. But the base is a success. It works very well with the lime. Gives it a little more edge. But I still prefer the green tea + marshmallow combination. It’s dreamy times.
Not my favourite SBT (it’s Rainbow Sherbet for me) but I’d say this comes in second.
This one sure has a hold on me. I’ve already burned through half my 1 oz. bag over the past week. Lucky Charms marshmallows, meet warm chocolate and a drop of vanilla.
I don’t really get the graham cracker, though. The base is quite mild, no astringency. I especially appreciate this blend because the sweetness doesn’t knock your socks off like some other Della Terra blends can (Pineapple Upside Down Cake comes to mind).
Something tells me I’ll be ordering more someday.
Oh, I totally get the graham cracker….wonder why you don’t. I just noticed this morning how little of this I have left! Guess I better add it to my next order!
I’ll try to pay extra attention next time. Maybe it’s psychological? Like maybe you only taste it (or think you do!) when you know something is in there, because I actually didn’t even notice the crumbs until after I drank it a few times.
Graham cracker is the main thing I get (smell and taste) but I believe it may be my own perception while drinking this.
Funny story. The other night, my neighbour went streaking down the sidewalk, and out of nowhere, a cop showed up and stopped him. Impeccable timing.
I’ve prepared this tea two ways: hot and cold-brewed. Both are keeping me company while I try to get yet another paper out of the way.
The dry leaf is fruity to the tenth power, sweet, and tart. An in-your-face mango paired with a much more subtle pomegranate. If anyone here is into BPAL, it’s like Io in tea form.
This is better hot than what I originally anticipated. The mango and pomegranate are quite balanced here. The tea base is noticeable too but not overly so. No bitterness. I also appreciate that this doesn’t taste like five pounds of sugar has been infused into the tea. It has the same level of sweetness that dried fruit has.
Heavens to Murgatroyd, this is fantastic iced. Exquisite even! The mango overpowers the pomegranate here, but I don’t care. It works for me. I actually absentmindedly under-leafed (well, actually, overwatered?) since I didn’t have that much left, but filled up my jug all the way. I was worried it was going to be bland and overly diluted, but it’s awesome. A light honey liquor but still full of flavour. I’ll have to pick up more for iced tea purposes.
Ha, those damn cops! But we still need them…
Usually don’t care much for DT’s spring and summer collection but this one sounds great!
I’m quite sure he and his friends were drunk, and he looks to be in his early- to mid-20’s. Surprisingly not scarred for life!
My issue is most of the teas I have wouldn’t be that great iced, and the ones that are, I hoard because I can’t get them anymore haha.
