I was actually quite surprised about how good this was. Notes of vanilla come through strongly, but (sadly) the chocolate chips are less noticeable. Since this was a sample, I am probably going to get more of this next time I place an order.
70 Tasting Notes
I am not enjoying work today, simply because I would rather be at home watching Game of Thrones all day. My fiance and I watched it like all weekend, WE CANNOT GET ENOUGH (still on season 1 though).
Anyway… had this as a sample from my last order and have finally gotten around to tasting it. It actually smells like chocolate and banana. Taste wise, I notice the chocolate flavor first, followed by the banana. I bet this is how a Bluth Frozen Banana tastes.
I don’t even know what to say about this, other than I don’t taste apple. I taste rose mostly…. and I’m not crazy about that.
The way this tea smells in the bag is woody, with a lingering of sweetness. There is also a smokiness that reminds me of a fireplace or the way the air smells after firing a gun. The taste is incredibly unique. The first flavor I noticed was a slightly sour cherry taste that blended smoothly with the smoky, woody flavors I expected.
I think it perfectly captures this character… Maybe I should rewatch ‘A Scandal in Belgravia’
Once again, can’t have mint. So I gave this one to my mom. Here is what she had to say:
“It’s good, but it doesn’t have much going for it flavor wise besides the peppermint, so it’s a little plain. I feel like it needs an additional flavor to balance out the peppermint.”
Well, I’m sick. Which is why this review is late and very short. It’s perfect timing since I leave for Japan on the 27th :(
This smells and tastes almost exactly like the butterbeer at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Delicious!!
The blueberry flavor is quite prominent, but I get a little less cotton candy flavor from this than I did from the cotton candy black tea on the first day. The gunpowder base was certainly interesting. Kind of unexpected, but very good.
Once again, not a huge lemon fan, so I was a little disappointed when I opened this tea. But I was pleasantly surprised with the taste. The lemon was not overwhelming by any means. Instead, it’s much more subtle than I expected it to be, and paired well with the chun mee green tea. The tea has a pretty citrus-y flavor that isn’t overwhelmingly lemon.
The taste of this tea reminds me of chocolate pudding. It’s really good, very chocolatey. Black base doesn’t overpower the chocolate flavor.
When I opened this, I unfortunately was not incredibly excited about it. Kind of an odd flavor. It tastes alright… The lime flavor comes through nicely. It actually does remind me of jello. Not really a flavor I prefer when it comes to tea, though.
So it finally happened.. The one thing I have been dreading this entire 12 Teas of Christmas experience… a mint tea has appeared. I was so disappointed when I opened this. I am allergic to mint :(
So I gave it to my BF who drank it iced and here’s what he had to say:
“Too much spearmint. Needs chocolate. It’s ok.. 3 stars out of 5”
Sorry I couldn’t drag any more words out of him about this tea. I’m also sorry about the low rating because I’m sure this is a great tea (as all of the other ones have been so far). I’m just going to rate it off of his ‘3 stars’ comment.
So I about screamed when I opened this, I was so excited. Taste wise, the first flavor I notice is the pumpkin. The caramel is very present, with the cheesecake taste being the most subtle. A pinch of sweetener really enhances the flavors.
This tea is so smooth and the black currant balances with the bergamot well… The flavors also don’t overpower the white tea’s flavor. It’s pretty sweet on its own, so I didn’t add any sugar. This is equally delicious on the second steep, but the bergamot comes on very strongly as an after taste where it didn’t as strongly from the first steep.
So, I was not planning on buying any more tea until after I return from my trip to Japan (I leave in 10 days!!!!). But then I saw this tea. Firefly + Genmaicha + Chocolate = me caving in and purchasing.
I really love genmaicha but have never tasted one with chocolate in it. The taste of this kind of reminds me of those Krakel chocolates that come in the Hershey’s miniatures packs. The chocolate really enhances the toasty flavor of the genmaicha. The after taste is kind of vegetal, and the toasty, chocolatey taste fades a bit. Overall, the chocolate in this tea is not overwhelming. Instead, it enhances the flavor of the genmaicha.
Not really a huge fan of lemon flavors, so wasn’t incredibly excited to taste this, but it’s decent. VERY lemony. I don’t really notice the marshmallow flavor, but there is certainly a very smooth flavor to this tea. The lemon overpowers it though. Kind of like a slap of lemon to the face. Drinkable, but not something I would ever buy for myself.
Banana flavor is very potent. I taste a slight citrus flavor, but it is barely there. Overall, tastes pretty good, exactly like a smoothie.
This smells exactly like cotton candy in the bag.. omg… The cotton candy flavor isn’t overpowering on the initial taste, but it comes out even more as an after taste. Though it is very sweet on its own, a little bit of sweetener really enhances that cotton candy taste. Second steep seems to lose most of the cotton candy flavor. Overall, I want more of this!!
This tea tastes like liquid summer. I don’t even understand how that kind of wizardry is possible… The watermelon flavor is present but doesn’t overpower the silver needle base.. which is great because I absolutely love silver needle. The little flowers make this a very pretty tea to look at, but I’m not sure I notice them in the taste?
This tea is very interesting. On my first attempt to drink it yesterday, I kept getting a very grassy taste. Could taste a hint of eggnog, but the taste of the green tea seemed to overpower it. On the second steep, the grassy taste diminished slightly . This morning, I used a lower temperature than recommended, as well as sweetened it slightly with honey, and it was delicious. The creamy eggnog flavor came through very well. Not sure what the problem was yesterday. Maybe my taste buds were just off.
No notes yet.
I’m pretty cautious around chai, just because it can sometimes be too spicy and I’m not someone who loves A LOT of spice… But not only does this tea have the right amount of spice, but it actually tastes like pumpkin. By far the best pumpkin tea I have ever had. Absolutely love it.
I had high hopes for this tea. Smells nice in the bag, but the taste is just alright. The aftertaste leaves the flavor of carrot cake better than the tea itself does. The artificial flavoring is pretty noticeable.
The pumpkin flavor of this tea is very subtle. The spices aren’t overpowering, which tends to happen with a lot of the pumpkin teas I’ve tried in the past.
The best Genmaicha I have ever had. Great flavor.
