Backlog from yesterday…this was in bag form, from the SSTTB, which is why I used it…I was kind of lazy yesterday morning before work. Anyway, it is not a stellar tea, just basic, and that’s ok for me sometimes. It was good, just not amazing. I think I like Tetley’s black currant just a wee bit more, to be honest.

I’ve had this twice now, and I really like it. I picked it up in the bin of samples Janet had in a container on the counter in her shop. The name didn’t give any info, though the back was simple…black tea, cocoa nib, caramel pieces. SOLD!

I find the base to be pretty smooth, and my first impression of this tea is like a fraternal twin to Butiki’s Caramel Vanilla Assam. Only the vanilla here is replaced with the cocoa…and the cocoa blends in nicely with the black base that the caramel stands out more, with the smooth cocoa-ish backdrop.

I’d definitely consider getting more of this on a later visit. It is a nice morning tea.

Nice! I don’t think I ever asked to smell this in the store because I didn’t think it would have these kinds of ingredients. I’ll have to check it out next time I’m there.

Another one from the SSTTB…this is an Amoda sample. It’s a white tea from Nepal I think. It is quite smooth, and has a medium body, for a white, maybe even a little heavier. There is a sweet note, and a little fuzzy on my tongue. I can almost pick out a cherry or plum feel to it, like you might find in a darker oolong, but not as strong. This is actually a fairly relaxing tea to drink. I like it!

From the SSTTB…it’s a pretty standard milk oolong, though I may have been slightly overzealous in my measuring and used a wee bit too much leaf, so it is a little stronger than some milk oolongs. I think I still prefer Teaopia’s and Teavivre’s the best.

Backlog from last night…This is a really interesting contribution to the SSTTB that Bear With Me put in. Being sick, I’m sure I missed out on some of the notes in this tea, though the mint was probably the most prominent flavour, but not in a minty way. I’m to sure if that makes any sense, sorry. I definitely want to give this a better try when I have my full senses. I’m gonna have a few more steeps, and then toss it into the box again, as it is a rather generous amount in there, so more to share!

drank Butterscotch Banana by 52teas
761 tasting notes

Another one from the SSTTB! Made this one last night. As with a lot of 52Teas blends, I found the flavour on the mild side, and the base on the strong side. The flavour may be reduced since I’m sick though. But I was barely able to pick up the flavour of the banana and a sweet butterscotch note.I did add milk to this to reduce the sharpness of the base.

It’s a decent blend, and I’d like to try it again when I have my full senses, and maybe reduce the leaf a little and see if it helps the beast be less bitter.

Had some of this last night or night before, because I’m sick, and this is a sick kind of tea. I got a sample of it despite it having licorice in it. Actually, Janet tossed this one in as a freebie since I had a sore throat when I was in…she is really a very sweet lady.

So, I did not find this repulsive, and I was able to drink the whole cup. But it is not my favourite tea…it something I might have on hand for being sick though. Since it is a medicinal tea, and it contains ingredients I know I dislike, I am not rating this one.

Not wonderful, but a pleasant enough rooibos. None of the flavours particularly stand out in this blend and it is pretty unoffensive. I left one serving for the SSTTB.

I received the SSTTB from Bear With Me today. As I’m starting to feel sick…sore throat and congestion building, I opted that I would try this as my first tea from the box, not because it appealed to me the most, but more for the medicinal aspect of the ginger.

I found this tea to be ok. Just..ok. Not amazing or anything. But, I think it could be something better if cold steeped and drunk cold on a hot day. The flavour that I picked out most was the ginger, with the lemongrass not to far behind it.

I would not say that it is a bad tea, but I would say that it is not great either.

drank Apple Custard by DAVIDsTEA
761 tasting notes

It smells amazing, but it gives me a deja vu feeling with an apple tea from a few years back…it gets a little sour as it cools down. It has been mentioned that this is a heavier tea, and that is true. I don’t know if I will repurchase or not. It is goo but not great. I agree that DAVIDs is getting a bit too artificial.

I generally like a lot of tea. I do find I have a preference for flavored over unflavoured, but I do love a good straight tea as well.

Likes are too hard, since there are a lot. Dislikes are easier, so here they are…

Hibiscus. Blech. I can tolerate a little, depending on the brew, like Berry Good from Davids and Ruby Pie from Butiki…but in general, it’s too tart and too strong for me.

Licorice. Anything that remotely resembles licorice is out too, so that includes fennel and anise. Yuck, yuck, yuck.

Florals. I’m cool with petals in the tea to make them look pretty (except rose), and I’m cool with teas like oolongs having a floral note, but strong florals can give me migraines. Rose and jasmine are the biggest offenders. This is one where it can vary on the blend, as I can handle Teavivre’s Peach Jasmine Dragon Pearl tea because there is very little jasmine actually detectable in it.

Rooibos is hit or miss. I can do some, but not others. I handle green better than red, and honeybush better than rooibos.

My ratings don’t have a particular scale or method, and may on occasion contradict themselves, but I’m honestly not fussed about that. Sometimes I don’t even rate at all.

Um, I have an extensive wishlist. It is both a list of things I want to get again, and things I want to try. If you are sending me something, and you want to know which is which, I’ll tell you via PM.

Yes, I do trades…usually on request though. See something you want to try in my cupboard? Just shoot me a message and I’ll see what I can do!

Uh, guess that’s it.
