Pu Erh from Staufs Coffee Roasters
88

This tea is a drug. I kid you not… I had serious tea chi going on allll day long. It’s like… Peyote! yes, it really is that intense (okay I really have no idea what the big P is like but this is how I imagine it anyhow)
The leaves are pitch black, which isn’t unusual… but normally when you brew a tea like that the leaves lighten up a bit. Not these ones. Dark as the night.
The tea reflects that trait as well. It’s murky and mysterious. The first few sips are so rich and encompassing that one almost gets lost in it’s depth. I swear, I could feel it reaching into my very soul.
You think I kid? I swear, it’s the truth! and you know me, when I find something new, I throw myself headfirst into the leaves… so after four steeps (or was it five? I can’t recall now) I felt as if I’d been engaged in chakkra opening exercises all day long.
Now this is a tea for meditation…
My only concern is that there was a hint of fishiness every now and then, but not enough to bother my senses or put me off, at all.
Whew. I guess now that I’ve actually attended a yoga class today, my chi is all confused. Ha! :P
This isn’t a tea I’d want every day. To be saved for special occasions!
Thank you Kashyap for this sample. This was quite a trip!! Can’t wait to try this one in a Gawain.

Bonnie: “… you hoo doo trippin tea goddess”. What a riot!

Indigobloom: To keep things simple (haha, I still have sooo many samples right now) I am not allowing myself to delve into pu-erh, just yet (although I tried a flavor-added one of Teavana’s that wasn’t too good, since it was on sale). But I will keep this tea, and Staufs Coffee Roasters, in mind. As I have never heard of them before, I would also be interested in hearing about your experience buying from them (unless you got this in a swap, that is).

OK challange is on…Indigobloom and I being “that kind of Pu erh” women that we are…questionable at best….should send you samples that will be the ruin of you! Corruption…Pu erh..our drug of choice…boohaaaa (evil laugh!)

SimpliciTea, ooh I cannot wait for that day, to see your reviews! :P and yes, Staufs is an incredible vendor… I received this in a swap but would most definitely order from them based on my sample experiences!

Bonnie: Agreed!! Challenge accepted ;)
I’m not an addict… no…. not at all!

Tommy: heh, isn’t it great?!??

Kashyap: Indeed! Thanks so much for the sample!!!

Oh wait I HAD read your tea log on this before … okay maybe its not the Pu’erh causing my mind implosion but nature itself … never mind – before – after – during – its all good.

Let’s see… I’m a tea and workout fanatic, I work in HR, and most of my friends consider me to be an egg. White on the outside, Asian on the inside :)
-from philosophy to food, I love it all
Otherwise, what you see is what you get! I can be very straightforward and yet shy.

Also, I’ve started taking tea sommelier classes and it is an absolute blast! Well, so far I’ve only finished the first out of eight courses, but I am really looking forward to the next one.

Anyhow, if your curious as to how I rate things, this is how I work…

0-25
Like eating dirt, or some other unsanitary indelicacy that mentioning in my profile here would likely get me banned.
I don’t think I’ve found cause to banish a tea to the wasteland yet though so who knows what it’d inspire ;P

25-50
You know that expression “Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater”? I imagine drinking that water would be terrible enough to warrant this rating!
I’d never make my enemy drink this, but perhaps I’d throw it at them. Good thing I don’t have any enemies!

50-70
This is “tea”?? I tried finishing the cup… but my body rejected it. There may be others who enjoy this tea, but it’s beyond me!

70-80
I tried liking it, and I can almost get there! I certainly don’t hate it, but something is holding me back. Allergies? Men in white suits? who knows… certainly not me!

80-90
Lovely tea! Not my all time fave but close. I likely wouldn’t repurchase, but may decide to based on many factors: price, accessibility, whether it fills a “tea gap”, medicinal applications, and how often I crave it.
Every once in awhile I find the sweet spot that bumps these up to 90+. Those are the days I need to buy a lotto ticket!

90-95
Sweet Camellia! this is realllly good tea! Don’t talk to me until I’ve finished my cup…

95-100
Tea of the gods. I would do anything to get my hands on more of this liquid gold!
