Wow! the first black I’ve seriously enjoyed in a long time! (shhh, don’t tell Assam k?)
Well, that isn’t the whole truth. At first, I wasn’t so sure. The hot cup was a bit too bold for my liking. But then as I got through it, the boldness evened out and the malty stepped up into a caramel like sweet and creamy goodness. I’mpressed!!! -ha, oh dear the grammar cadets will be after me for that one… but I’m stickin with it :P
Hmmm, I think this might be one to purchase, eventually. After I get through the rest of the Golden Mint’s lineup. I’m never around when they are open… so when I am it’s a special treat! Funny though, it’s only $2.25 per cup(almost 30c cheaper than Davids!) and yet most of their blends are $7.50/50g, except their black’s which are $6!! It all seems so backwards to me. Expensive loose, but cheaper by the cup, and cheaper black tea than rooibos?!
Bah, the tea was good… what more do ya need?

Bonnie

The only way the grammar cadets will get you is if you keep drinking that perfumey (huh) White Rose Tea! You girly girl!

Indigobloom

heh, what can I say… I push the boundaries, reinventing the English language to meet my lazy standards. Heh heh heh :)

Bonnie

You my good lady are NOT lazy!

Scott B

Is this a generic black then? And is it orthodox or ctc? I’ve been wanting to try some African teas.

Indigobloom

Bonnie, well most of the time I’m not… :)
Scott Bee: I believe it was orthodox. I only saw one ctc tea and it was labelled as such in the store. No flavourings or anything added. I was surprised how good it was!

Indigobloom

Also, try the Milima from Kenya, one of my faves

Scott B

thanks for the tips :)

I was super impressed by Tanzanian black the first time I had it as well. I was expecting it to be CTC when I ordered it, but received an enourmous leafed tea instead. It was just wonderful. I had much the same initial experience with it that you did. ‘Wow, that’s strong’ followed by ‘gosh, this is lovely’.

Indigobloom

Scott: anytime!
Angrboda: wow, so I’m not the only one! interesting. If it weren’t for my tea buying ban I’d go back and pick some up tomorrow!

Angrboda

Yeah, I desperately want to place a few orders as well. Not because there’s anything I need, just because I’m not allowed. I’ve told myself that I’m not allowed to buy anything at all not strictly necessary until the other side of the wedding. Not even books! But anyway, the Tanzania, I ordered it mostly beause I didn’t know they had a tea production at all. It totally sparked an interest in exploring the african continent some more.

Indigobloom

It is quite interesting indeed! Where did you order it from?

Bio

Let’s see… I’m a tea and workout fanatic, I work in HR, and most of my friends consider me to be an egg. White on the outside, Asian on the inside :)
-from philosophy to food, I love it all
Otherwise, what you see is what you get! I can be very straightforward and yet shy.

Also, I’ve started taking tea sommelier classes and it is an absolute blast! Well, so far I’ve only finished the first out of eight courses, but I am really looking forward to the next one.

Anyhow, if your curious as to how I rate things, this is how I work…

0-25
Like eating dirt, or some other unsanitary indelicacy that mentioning in my profile here would likely get me banned.
I don’t think I’ve found cause to banish a tea to the wasteland yet though so who knows what it’d inspire ;P

25-50
You know that expression “Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater”? I imagine drinking that water would be terrible enough to warrant this rating!
I’d never make my enemy drink this, but perhaps I’d throw it at them. Good thing I don’t have any enemies!

50-70
This is “tea”?? I tried finishing the cup… but my body rejected it. There may be others who enjoy this tea, but it’s beyond me!

70-80
I tried liking it, and I can almost get there! I certainly don’t hate it, but something is holding me back. Allergies? Men in white suits? who knows… certainly not me!

80-90
Lovely tea! Not my all time fave but close. I likely wouldn’t repurchase, but may decide to based on many factors: price, accessibility, whether it fills a “tea gap”, medicinal applications, and how often I crave it.
Every once in awhile I find the sweet spot that bumps these up to 90+. Those are the days I need to buy a lotto ticket!

90-95
Sweet Camellia! this is realllly good tea! Don’t talk to me until I’ve finished my cup…

95-100
Tea of the gods. I would do anything to get my hands on more of this liquid gold!
