1759 Tasting Notes
bleh!
It’s not often I say that about a tea. In fact, I can’t recall the last time I rated one so low. but this… well it certainly is not for me!
The taste is sharp on the tongue, faintly berry like with an aftertaste of plastic.
Was there black tea in this? I certainly couldn’t taste it.
Overall, I’m having trouble finding any redeeming qualities about this tea. Not just that, but it has artificial ingredients?! enough said in my books.
Steepster won’t allow me to rate this at the moment… so let’s just say I gave it a 45.
I want my old strawberry white tea from DT back! pouts
This wasn’t terrible. When hot, it was great. like fresh berries, all tart and sweet at once. However… as it cooled, the tea got super thick and weird. It became more syrupy, and lost the intense berry note. Certainly not worth keeping in my cupboard.
I guess if I can gulp it down before the tea gets to cold… it’d get an 88 but that won’t happen so boo! bah. I still miss the old version. Oh well. Sweet memories… one of my many gateway teas!
Very good tea!! thanks for sharing Amy! yummmmm.
Light, bright, and very sweet without any additions. Fresh tasting, remnicent of something floral. Could that be the rose? I can’t tell.
I also get something honey like, bakey even. I tend to notice that when there are claims of “apricot” so it makes sense to me!
There is something savoury in there as well but I need to sit down with a gaiwan before making any declarations on that…
I made it through three steepings, each a little softer and sweeter than the last, becoming more like spun rather than raw honey.
Overall… A lovely tea. I highly recommend!
Steepster won’t let me rate this for some reason. I’d give this a solid 91!
I made this iced today… in an effort to drink down some of my stash. It was nice, but not mind blowing. Maybe it’s too old? I’ve had it for awhile.
The almond flavour was very present, which was great… except that it hid any tea flavour that might have been present when made hot. Yep, I think this is better hot. No surprise there! Despite that, I think I’d give it an 84 when iced. Overall, one of the better iced teas I’ve made of late.
Oh and lookeee what I found! I’m sure some of y’all have seen this pic before but I thought it was worth mentioning.

THIS is a great chai. Spicy and rich in all the right ways. Reminds me of that Guayasa chai I tried from Davids awhile back. Good to know I have a place to get some since I’ve ditched that Teavana wannabe :)
(and I mean no offense by that, really! I’m just saying DT has become a place that no longer captures my attention the way it once did, for reasons most of you know)
Anyhow, big thanks to BONNIE for sharing this delightful blend with me.
Without milk, it held up really well. Naturally sweet and as the description says… graham crackers!? coolio!
With the addition of some dairy, it became a bit more spicy and less sweet. Actually, it was more of a good quality common chai that way. Next time, I hope I remember not to add any milk.
Thanks again Bonnie xx
LOL. For whatever it’s faults, I’d say that DT would be taking a serious step down to “aspire” to be Teavana (based on my experience with Teavana thus far).
I don’t want DT to be Teavana…. I like it the way it is (at my store anyway) Grant park shopping centre Winnipeg, Manitoba :D
I would fully agree too if DT would ever ‘aspire’ to be Teavana… also based on my experience with Teavana.
From what I have heard so far…Teavana should have the customer service of DT and Teavana and DT should get together and improve both of their tea selections which have serious issues in quality because of the quantity problems. They’ve become candy store tea shops instead of quality tea stores.
Daniel Scott: I so agree with you there! but as the days go by I am finding more and more similarities between the two :(
Helena: oh heck no, I don’t want it either! eeek!!
Lynne-tea: Oh I do hope they never team up. that would be disastrous…
Bonnie: SO agreed on that front. DT is a fantastic gateway tea house though. I crave a little candy sometimes! but not often.
Bonnie – what do you mean by “quantity problems”? I know that DT always seems to be out of the one I want, but I don’t know if that’s what you mean.
I know I think they have a Q problem… in that they bring out far too many at once, and then discontinue them so fast that I sometimes don’t even get to try them…
Q-Quantity Sometimes I think DT cranks out too many new flavors. There are a couple of companies that do this..new flavors each week or ‘many’ each season. My opinion (just mine) is that quality often suffers creating combinations that are a bit bizarre or blends with little bit of tea and lots of cheap fillers. There are some older tea’s from DT that I liked better but now many of the flavors taste dull or sour. Verdant uses lots of real tea in the blends like the one here. I’m sure other companies do the same and use real flavoring (Butiki). Like I said, my opinion. Teavana… I’m not a fan of their marketing enough to want to try the flavors any more (the few I tried were cardboard). When I walked into a shop it was wierd and the person who waited on me told me the tea wasn’t good (creepy)!
Oh, yeah, okay, I know what you mean. I’m not super-impressed with the release of innumerable flavours either, I do think some teas suffered that way as they’re clearly rushed out. The spring collection is a prime example; those were mostly all “meh.” I personally liked Daydreamer a lot, but I know a lot of people felt it was lacking.
I wasn’t going to say it, but I so agree! they’ve become substandard simply because there are too many teas. I wish they would focus on quality not quantity
Wow Azzrian this is superb, thanks so much for sharing with me!!
The coconut is strong and almost hides the tea flavour… but I don’t mind, being a fan of the fruit! It is also creamy, more than I expected. and sweet. Mmmmm! What a treat. This would be great iced I think. Thanks again Azzrian :)
Pro: I am omw to the cottage in 8 hrs!!! yay!!
Con: Five girls. All our stuff. One car. Oh dear.
Pro: Only 8 more hrs!
Con: I still have more laundry to sort and my luggage to pack.
Pro: 8 hrs til the party starts!
Con: Only 8 hrs?!?
Ahhh. Sorry for that. I am feeling a little overwhelmed haha.
Thanks to Azzrian and Amy Oh for the sample!! I’m glad to have tried this one. It’s not “my” cuppa tea, but now I am enjoying the process of learning what I like or dislike so I don’t mind.
This reminds me of Monks Blend. Very floral like and sweet. Vanilla almost. Not so much on the caramel though. The part I was looking forward to most! I’m sure this is a great tea. Just not the one for me.
Bah, oh well. It was a fun experiment :)
Hahahaha, you should have seen me rushing about today in preparation for my flight!!!! So much to do, so little time! Made it safe and sound though; hope everything goes smoothly for you!
Thanks a million for the sample Amy Oh! this is a great tea!
Not something I’d want everyday, but unique enough that it stands apart from your average green fruity tea. At first sip I was reminded of sour tamarind. It has that puckery sort of green apple flavouring, with a citric acidy twist. (not in a bad way, I love sour candies!)
Most fruity green teas, I find, end up generally tasting “fruity” with very little distinction. Mind you, this is a little heavy on the flavouring. Not much green tea to be found in the first steep… but also not a “juice” tea either, like so many flavoured teas are!
Anyhow, sorry for the ramble. I am ready to drop. Been getting stuff done this week in preparation for my vacation next week. I really will need it by the time we leave on Saturday!! phew. We rented a cottage, so I fully expect to read a few books and get plenty of sleep, finally!
And… because I’m feeling silly, check out this adorable video of a dog perplexed by half a lemon. So cute! http://jezebel.com/5925001/beagle-adorably-loses-its-shit-over-a-lemon
Not acceptable! It would be like having the air sucked out of the Steepster balloon! Hep me ….canna breev wherz Eendeegooobloooommmm?
Funny video! Enjoy your vacation. I’m off to a conference on Friday, and will be on vacation for two weeks, but since I’ll be at my parents’ house, I’ll be highly internet-connected, and I expect my presence on Steepster to only increase, as I catch up on everything I’ve been missing!! Have a great time!
Bonnie: awwww!! I’ll miss your reviews and comments to!
Will come back refreshed and excited for teaaaa… thx Bonnie! xxo
LiberTeas: I’ll miss you to!!
Tabby: isn’t it cute??! hehe
Kittena: thx! have a great time at your conference! have an extra cup for me lol
Wow Azzrian, this is good!! thanks for the sample! When it was hot, I really did enjoy this. Not so much as it cooled though. It lost some of that strawberry flavour, and the dryness associated with champagne.
With a touch of agave though, the berry really popped again. I need to try it again, experiment with the parameters a little.
Anyhow, I have news y’all! I got my HR exam results today. I doubt anyone will recall, but I was studying for it a few months back. However, it was not easy. MUCH harder than I expected. So I assumed that I didn’t pass. I knew that I hadn’t passed. Except I knew wrong. I PASSED!! How did this happen?!?! am I dreaming? is it real? seriously???? Cool! wow. I am on cloud 9. Heck, cloud 900!
All day long I’ve been bouncing between dreamy and hyper. (and not bc of the tea this time haha)
Anyhow, just thought I’d share my little cup of happiness.
Now I just need to gain some real “hr” experience and then I am certified. mwahs!
wow thanks Azzrian! but wait, I was positive this is from Azzrian, it has your writing… and packaging style but it’s also in Amy’s cupboard and I just received a swap from both… and it was in your pile Azzrian. Oh jeeze, I am one confused lady haha. Somebody set me straight! I kept the packages in two different rooms so it’s impossible that they could have gotten mixed up. Right?! right???
Anyhow, on to the tea. Looooooove it!! Mmmmmm, this is really super tasty.
The flavour is rather unique, which is quite refreshing for a white. Reminds me of Ginger Sparkle from Tealish actually, with a kick of strawberry and something spicy. I can see how Kittena misinterpreted the lime as ginger. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was ginger in here as well. Or perhaps that is the tequila? either way, it’s rather tasty. and complex! I LOVE complex teas and this one is highly so. White tea, lime, strawberry, tequila… all rolled into one! I think I can find the kiwi but there is so much going on that I can’t be sure.
Thanks Azzrian! or Amy! I am such a spaz…
LOL well if the writing is in scribble its from me :P
Brown or red sharpie marker. Doesn’t matter though – you liked it and that is what counts!
If you enjoy this one this much, I might bring you a bit more from mine… it’s just not my favourite.
This is an oolong, iirc. I wasn’t a big fan, sadly :(
oh right forgot about that lol
I think the only fan you’ll find around me and this tea is a paper one used to waft the scent away from me… :(
