1759 Tasting Notes
Thank you so much to Azzrian for the sample!! love it!
The flavours in this one are unique. I’m not sure what the base is, but I taste alot of roastedness. Maybe even a Brazilian tea sortof note. Earthy like. It’s pleasant, but a little biting as well.
I am getting some banana, underneath that. I do like banana. Yum!! but I can’t seem to find the strawberry, even with sugar, and some milk.
There is a hint of something fruity beyond banana, but whether that is strawberry or not I can’t say.
Bah, it’s tasty nonetheless. Thanks again Azzrian!
Preparation
I… don’t know what to think… It’s good, I think? I mean, I enjoyed it, but I wouldn’t call this a “tea” necessarily. It’s powderized, so in my head it just doesn’t match up with what I know as Camellia Sinensis.
Anyhow, I did enjoy my cup. This is just like milky bubbletea! only a bit more burnt tasting. Is it possible to burn powder? I guess I can burn the sugar.
The creamy and malty part was really nice, but there was a touch too much sweetness for my liking.
Overall, I’d say it was pretty good. In fact, I’d keep it in my cupboard if it didn’t give me tummy issues afterwards! which is why I am lowering the rating some. Never again. Yikes.
Hummm this is interesting stuff. Don’t know if I would want to try some of that or not. Is this an online purchase?
I would try this sounds interesting, i found some on amazon they have all kinds of weird powdered tea/coffee drinks, White Coffee even, i never heard of that.
Tommy: good to know! It’s tempting to keep it around for my niece. Thanks for investigating!
Azzrian: LOL do it!!
Kristaleyn: I know… but they were manageable, maybe bc it was cushioned by my lunch!
When I was dating my Chinese boyfriend, we drank this sort of milk-tea all the time from his mom’s cupboard. She had tons of kinds, and it was nice! All of the flavours pretty much tasted the same to be honest haha
DaisyChubb: there are different brands!? I must get to the asian grocery to investigate!! even if I don’t end up buying, I am curious :P
I’m curious. If in your head powderized means it isn’t really tea, what are your feelings towards matcha since it is powdered as well.
I put it in my cart – holding off on another tea order right now but it is there for my IMPULSE BUYING DAY! lol too many medical bills right now though.
RED ROSE: I’m undecided on matcha. I’ve had some bad experiences with it. Nausea. Jitters. Fishiness. Then again I’ve only ever tried the Davids and Starbucks version, and a few store bought ones. Red Leaf seemed ok.
BIGELOW: I love Milk Oolong. Should I avoid that as well??
I wasn’t asking what your views were, although they are interesting, but if you considered it real tea since that was what turned you off of this one.
So… back to the your regularly scheduled programming…
The Asian groceries do carry a lot of the ‘3-in-1’ products. I’ve never tried the tea ones, to be honest, but it’s really the only type of instant coffee that I enjoy. Although, I should mention it has been YEARS since I’ve drank instant coffee, so the technology and the flavor could have improved quite a bit since then.
The brand I usually buy now is the Trung Nguyen G7 3-in-1 (showing here: http://www.amazon.com/Instant-Cappuccino-Coffee-Irish-20-sticks/dp/B002RX53R8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1335103398&sr=8-2).
Although, it’s been a while since I’ve had to buy any, my Vietnamese friend at work keeps a fairly solid supply :)
Years since I’ve drank other instant coffee. Darn word just up and left my sentence on his own volition.
LOL Dylan, that happens to me ALL the time!!! silly Steepster, discarding our words for no good reason!
My parents drink instant coffee. Folgers is their brand I think. I’ve never been a fan personally, but it looks like the kind you like is flavoured. I could get behind that! if I drank coffee anymore that is.
and thanks for getting us back on track :)
Bigelow, I have only ever drank one Lapsang Souchong, and I gave it a low rating because it gave me an asthma attack, a headache and nausea. I also noted in my review that the taste notes I picked up were interesting, but that I flat-out couldn’t handle drinking more than half a cup to find out more about them. Should I not have done that, or should I have given a high rating to a tea that made me physically ill?
I suppose you could make the argument that I should not have rated it at all, but I don’t see why not. The ratings are meant to be an overall reflection of everyone’s experiences with the tea, no? I think people are capable of reading reviews and deciding for themselves what info is relevant to them.
Daniel Scott: I agree, this is a place where people come to get the opinion of everyone who wishes to share their thoughts. In one’s review, they have every right to state their opinion and rate the tea as they see fit. Personally, I appreciate notes like that, because it keeps me aware of potential issues. For instances, my friend who has asthma, and loves tea, now I will think twice about giving him a Lapsang to try! alcohol sets him off, so I think smoked tea would as well (even more so)
I just tried this again. It seems to have lost alot of the mango flavour. Sadness!
that’s what I get for saving a fave in my cupboard for so long…
Oh well. Now, this reminds me of a mango congou, with the fruit hanging out in the background instead of front and centre. Also, the tea got a little too astringent for me. and I lowered the temp a bit to. Ah well, live n learn!!!
This was tasty. I’m almost tempted to buy a tin. but not quite enough. I have so many juice teas already… I do not need another. but the cinnamon. Oh how I love cinnamon!! when it’s in a dessert. Not so much as a spicy candy. bleh.
It’s very rich, this one. And like I said, the cinnamon… mmmm. it just adds something special here. and maybe the banana as well. I like banana in my teas, apparently. Though I’ve never considered that option til today. It seems I like it enough to forgive the evil doings of hibby! ha!
You know what… maybe I’ll add a dash of cinnamon to some of my other fruity teas. Maybe then I won’t have to add yet another tea to my cupboard!! Not sure what to do about adding banana. Plantain chips probably would not do the trick!
heeey good idea! a dash of cinnamon.. mm! Let us know how it turns out – I would try it but… this is pretty much my only juice tea right now, which is probably why I’m so obsessed with it at the moment haha!
Oh I plan on trying it out soon! I can’t wait. It’d be amazing if it worked to hide the hibby! eeeeevil sour hibby
Hmm, they aren’t that big. I’m sure I could pick them out, but being so small it’s hard to differentiate what’s what. Dried banana is pretty dense so I could go by that
Daniel Scott – if you’re allergic, I probably wouldn’t go with this tea. The banana chunks aren’t like in Banana Oolong (i.e., blatantly obvious), if I recall correctly.
Okay, thanks Krystaleyn!
Really, it’s a shame; it’s a good cause. But I’ve gotten some people into tea-drinking recently, so perhaps it could be a gift for someone at some point.
Mmmmm just what I was after! For some reason, I’ve been all about the mint this week, and I am loving it!
Lately, because I’m trying to drink down my stash and I can’t waste too much time at work, I’ve been making two types of tea right when I get in. Sometimes even three, and then I ice one for the afternoon.
This one, I decided to ice… but when I tried the first steep, it was a little too much so I stuck the second one in the fridge instead and ohmygoodness was it ever perfect!!!
Something about the mint and green tea was so refreshing, and not bitter at all. I think that was partly because one serving is half the normal leaf used and the mint spruces it up so well.
For the iced version, I did add a tiny bit of agave. It really made a difference.
Then for the fourth and final steep I iced it again. That one was decent but nothing spectacular. It kept me going during my workout, and sane. There was a promo even at the gym, with a live lounge singer/“BB King” band and hired actors dressed up like famous celebrities. There was a puppet show (Bert n Ernie), Austin Powers, Cary Grant, Dr Evil/mini-me. Some free food.
Ugh, it was impossible concentrating! So yeah… I was counting on that tea to keep me focused! Concentrating on squats and dead-lifts with a live cover of the theme song from Titanic running in the background does not bode well for my poor overwhelmed brain.
Anyhow! I’m off to bed. Circuit training tomorrow, so the place had better be quiet…
BTW, my notices are MIA. It brings me to that error page. So my apologies for anything I miss!
LOL Any chance your gym is Goodlife? My gym totally had a party atmosphere today, and the pump class I went to (yes, with squats/dead-lifts, etc.) was a high-energy release class with three instructors…
YUP!!! It’s Goodlife allright! my instructor was so mad, it was entertaining watching him fume lol
Oh and they had girls in gala dresses at the door handing out free passes.
Did you go yesterday? I hear that all the locations were doing it. (not sure if that applies to just TO or not though)
Yes, I had gone to the gym on that same day. It was some sort of birthday party? I had some yummy free food on my way out, but didn’t participate in anything else. My gym’s pretty small, and women-only.
So at first sip, I thought this was great. So yummy! the citrus was so balanced, without overtaking the tea. but then as it cooled… the orange became fake and I got notes of Jasmine underneath it all. Y’all know how I feel about Jasmine…
I couldn’t even finish the cup. Bleh.
This tea tricked me. I want a refund :/
(not on the money, on the experience!)
oh I didn’t get one of those!! but there was what I assumed is an orange peel. I made that mistake… so bitter >.<
Nice!! I like it! It really hit my chocolate craving. With some milk and sugar, the piping hot cup tastes kindof earthy though. Almost like a caramel rooibos but that could also be the hazelnut, maybe? As it cools down, the nutty chocolate comes out more, and once the heat is gone it very much reminds me of chocolate milk. There are sips where I also tasted some malty marshmallow as well.
I like it, but more than the chocolate orange tea? Hmmm, maybe not. I’ll have to see what happens next time I try it.
Now that the eeeeevil Teavana has officially taken over, I need to try all the Teaopia blends again and see what I should stock up on before they disappear forever! :/
If you have a bunch of this and are willing to bring along a sample, it totally sounds interesting! :D
Dylan, ha! well Teaopia did sue because their logos were so similar… I guess their names aren’t that far of either :P
Kristaleyn, this was just a to go cup sadly! :(
Yum! This makes me want to try it.. and reminds me of another tea I really want to try that also has marshmallows (toasted marshmallow tea by adagio).
I had this iced today. The first time I tried it that way, I used the cold brew method… ie dumping the leaves in cold water and then leaving it in the fridge.
Well, I was highly disappointed. That plastic taste I get in greens came popping right out.
If I hadn’t been out n about I would have ditched it, but I was thirsty and needed a drink.
This time though, I made it hot and then let it cool. Better. But I let it sit for a bit too long thinking that because it was to be iced, it might be better that way. Boy was I wrong.
Next time, I make it my normal way (90 seconds) and ice it. Hopefully that will turn out better. I might even go with icing the second steep instead.
Oh and I’m lowering the rating a few points. To me, this is pretty similar to Long Life Oolong in the fruity aspect. It goes so much deeper in the flavour. With every sip, I kept thinking… not terrible, but LLO was so much better. Yeah, they are different species and all… green vs oolong, and I’m not typically a green girl so perhaps this is my bias coming out? or maybe I just had one of those randomly “bad” cups!
Methinks I just need to steep it again with my usual method. shrugs
Who knows.
I had this at a girlfriend’s place tonight. Two steeps, neither of them great, but neither of them terrible. Even with some sugar, it was… unmemorable. I tasted Yunnan, maybe a bit of Keemum.
She said it was an old bag. and, well… it was bagged. and a dusty one to.
Your welcome – that one came from an Etsy seller.
nice. an entrepreneurial tea!! good to support the underdogs :P
