1759 Tasting Notes
Well, it certainly does taste appleish! and the black tea base is nice.
and with a touch of milk I got the “bakey” note as well. It needed a bit of sweet agave added, however… to cover up the sour. I wasn’t sure whether that was apple sour or astringent tartness.
But, and there is a but… and it’s that for some reason this tea does little for me. I guess apple is just one of those flavors that doesn’t speak “tea” for me.
Well, I’m glad to have tried it anyhow!!
Yummy!! this was SO tasty. and quite a pleasant surprise to.
It smells divine, but I snuck a sip from someone the other day and was not too impressed… which worried me because I bought a small bag of it based on the heavenly scent! and then I saw one of the other reviews that said it wasn’t so great… and I got more worried.
Well, I really shouldn’t have been because De is right, this is mindblowing!
It reminds me of the Tess Orange tea I have and love, only brighter and a little spicier.
Mind you, I didn’t see many ginger pieces so it’s possible that I will need to pick those out later on if there are too many.
Also, I accidentally steeped this for 7 minutes! but it turned out just fine. A little thick, but not bitter at all. Very orangey and round. Now that it’s been 12 hours since my cup… I seem to remember a slight creaminess about it but I may be supplementing my memory with made up details here! ha.
okayyy I know I reviewed this one before. I remember specifically commenting that it was pu-erh awesomeness because with some milk it tastes like melted chocolate strawberry icecream… or rather, strawberry chocolate milk. SO good. Three steeps of this baby and I still wanted MORE.
I’m a little annoyed now. Steepster ate my post :(
The strawberry doesn’t come out much at first. It’s rather mild… but give it a chance, it will build I promise! With milk, this outbids any other flavoured pu-erh I’ve ever tried. Without… ehhh, it’s ok. A little too weak. No matter, I don’t mind at all =D
This will be one to repurchase, no hesitation about that!
oh this sounds good. now I feel bad that I didn’t stop in one of their stores in Florida because I want this!
This sounds so reminiscent of Lupicia’s Chocolate Strawberry Pu’erh. I will give my comparison of the two very soon.
Amanda, I only have dregs left in my sample or else I’d send you some to try!
SimplyJen, ooh! I look forward to that!!
It’s okay, I will be back there soon enough! I saw their prices online before I had left and thought it sounded crazy for like, an ounce of rooibos, but I did not even see this!
I found out that there is a branch at Pier 39 in San Francisco so I can ask my son to get this for me. Ha! You’ve got to milk the adult kids now and then…it’s good for them and he doesn’t have kids so…I’ll be his kid! (I just sent him tea samples so I’m not a bad mom)
Amanda: I think this was new when I got there. When did you go?
Bonnie: LOL hey anything goes when it comes to keeping a good stock of tea! besides, it’s the best way to make a convert :P
Daniel Scott: it is so good. way better than the orange choco versions I’ve had!
LOL I suppose I did! hehe
Indigo is my fave colour and bloom… well I was having a blooming tea when I chose it haha. Btw my real name is Adrienne!
What a novelty!! Vietnamese green tea! atleast that’s what my friend thinks it is. The leaves are infused with Lotus blossom scent
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnamese_lotus_tea
I must say, the floral aspect is not very strong… but I like it that way. The green-ness overwhelms the floral somewhat.
Dry, the leaves are medium grey with some light grey interspersed and smell somewhat like pu-erh. Wet, they turn olive green with a kale scent.
Steeped… To me, the floral bit comes across as smoky at the beginning of the sip, and when the cup is hot. As it cools, the vegetal taste comes through more. Kindof a brussel sprout taste with that hint of bitter.
Second infusion is significantly more bitter, again like brussel sprouts and creamed spinach… and definitely less floral. The natural sweetness is there to, hiding around the edges and underneath.
I’m not generally a fan of greens, but there is no nausea here so once I get past that it could be an awesome alternative! It’s quite enjoyable, just not my favourite.
Anyhow, I have a sandwich ziploc full of this. Would anyone like a sample?
always down for Vietnamese teas…I’m actually shipping a bunch to a friend who I suspect has never had tea from that region.
Infusion parameters?! I grabbed this one out to try tonight. Are we looking at 82C/1min infusions or thereabouts?
Actually it came with NO instructions. So… “not boiling” is about as good as I can do!
Personally, I prefer shorter steeps.
Also, I’ve been advised to wash the leaves but I end up forgetting most of the time.
Well I’m definitely getting a tiny bit of tingle outta this one! I didn’t expect that…
But not so much on the lime. It was more… generic citrus and spice.
Pleasant enough I suppose. The cup was nice to have by my desk. However, I doubt this will make my repurchase list.
There is enough left in my sample for one more. I’m cold brewing it with some San Pellegrino. Should be fun to see what happens :)
I’m so glad I had a chance to try this, as I’ve been eying it up for some time now. Good thing it was just a sample though, as I couldn’t bear to finish the cup… I’m sorry Lemon Meringue Rooibos, you smell so very yummy! but ya do bad things to me :(
Just made me slightly nauseous. Had trouble swallowing it.
It made me feel guilty for not liking it!! does that count lol
OOOOOOOH Guilt! You might have to drink strong oversteeped Carrot Cake before bed…oh yeh aren’t you the only one who likes Carrot Cake! Not Fair!
me? noooo way lol
I tried a sample in store, it was terrible! gotta find another sacrifice to make haha
I don’t quite know what to think of this. It was good, but how good? I can’t decide!
Malty? check. Bold? check. Sweet? check! Astringent… no too much!
Wait a sec… sweet?! I added no sugar. How can that be? It tasted as if I added sugar! Honey even. and more than I’d normally take. In fact, my second cup was sans dairy and it was still rich in flavour. (well, if you consider the little bit of left over milk from my first infusion mixed in as naked that is)
I need to try this again. I’m a little perplexed!!
Some teas, without sugar, do taste pretty sweet to me! Foremost example is this tea from Mozambique but there have been other ones, plain unflavoured teas which taste naturally sweet.
This is good. The cham is making me so sleepy. and whoa is it ever potent! (yeh, we’re close. On a nic basis ya know)
Sweeter than I expected, and yet balanced out by the spearmint. Does rosehip mellow things out?? I thought it was sour. Meh. Maybe I’ll find the rose next time. Aw who am I kidding, Valentines was over two weeks ago…
Anyhow, I prefer peppermint over spearmint so this was a hair too spicy. A quarter teaspoon of honey fixed that right up, almost too much. I think I’ll add a little less next time.
Deeeeeeelicious!!! I’m impressed. Almond battled the hibby and won ;)
This is like a berry cider with spice and a hint of creamy yumminess.
Quite different than many of the other berry teas I’ve grown tired of over my tea heartin days. I love how unique and comforting it is. Ahhh this would have been so lovely throughout those chilly days, or in the evenings by a fire. It really is a “winter” blend!
I drank this so fast that I didn’t get to see it grow cold. Not sure I’d like it iced, but I’m curious to see if more of the almond comes out to play.
Hrm. I guess I really am picky about my chai. This was ok. Just!
A little too sweet for me, in a way that I’m having trouble pinpointing, and that I could have seriously done without. Maybe it was the combo of vanilla bean and cinnamon? It was so odd. Like a chai gone stale. That said, I certainly don’t hate it. and I do love that the tea leaves were processed ctc style! Certainly a drinkable cup, and loads better than Tetley :) The coconut aspect was lovely but I can see now that it really doesn’t belong in my perfect cup o’chai. Or so it seems!
Anyhow. Based on the first infusion, I’d have given this a 75. However the second steep mellowed out considerably. I really enjoyed that one! so it’d get an 85. Thus, I’ve chosen 80 as my rating.
