Tried this one tonight, because I’d had it in blends but I’d never had it straight before. … but I sweetened it with swedish fish, just for fun. Because why not?

I think I would enjoy a guanabana lingonberry blend.

It’s not fantastic or anything, but I’m still kinda sad that adagio is discontinuing this one. (Now what are we supposed to use in blends as a shorthand for “quirky”? =P)

drank Glitter & Gold by DAVIDsTEA

So this morning I was too lazy to clean out my teapot… but it occurred to me that this tea would actually blend pretty well with a chai, so I threw my pumpkin chai in on top of the used glitter & gold tea leaves, and ta-da! sparkly pumpkin chai. I am quite pleased.

Stopped by DavidsTea today, mostly for some pumpkin chai. Apparently, the winter collection is in full swing already! I don’t know about you, but in my book it’s still pumpkin season until thanksgiving…

I tried a sample of this one, didn’t pay attention to it much, mostly enjoying having hot tea after walking through the rain… and then I very suddenly realized that the tea in my hand was really good. I don’t usually like peppermint tea, but I think the white chocolate really gives it the something extra it needs, and I love peppercorns in any tea! It was the first tea I made when I got home (although picking one was quite a challenge…). I’ll have to stock up before it goes out of season.

The combination of having too much work, procrastinating on too much work, and feeling bad about procrastinating on too much work has left me with too little time this week to properly enjoy my tea. =/ I’ve more or less been brewing up a pot of whatever black tea I happen to pick up first. Drinking this one now — it’s far chocolatier that I remembered. I was pleasantly surprised.

drank Movie Night by DAVIDsTEA
117 tasting notes

Well, it was movie night, after all, so I thought this tea was appropriate. =] It was an impulse buy last time I was at Davids. There’s definitely a buttery popcorn smell, which is lovely. The taste is all apple, and then there’s a sweet, buttery popcorny aftertaste. The green tea is barely present — I thought maybe it was all at the bottom of the bag, or something, but I emptied it all into a bowl and yeah, there was very little of it.

It was certainly interesting, although I maybe wish there was something more to tie the apples and the popcorn together. A caramel note would make sense — caramel popcorn, caramel apples… I’ll try this one again later.

(please forgive any incoherency, it’s four in the morning…)

I tried this one the day it came in — it was a minty pu-erh kinda day. And while objectively I can tell this is a good blend, and I enjoyed the pu-erh and the mint, and I love the look of the big black peppercorns… it has anise, and I just don’t do anise. (Ick. >.<) I gave the rest of the package to my boyfriend, who enjoys anise, and also swears he can barely taste it in this blend. Oh well. To each their own…

I have to say, I wasn’t terribly impressed by this one. It smelled so nice and it looked so pretty (what can I say, I have a weakness for cornflower petals) that I just had to try some, but… it was just pretty good. I think Davids’ Checkmate makes a better coconut tea, and Lupicia’s Caramel and Rum Rooibos makes a better Rum tea. I don’t think I’ll be buying this one again.

drank Pumpkin Chai by DAVIDsTEA

Someone described this as “fall in a cup” and I’m inclined to agree. I’m not sure how much it actually tastes like real pumpkin pie (not having made any yet this fall… oops.) but it is sweet and subtly spiced and even tastes a little like graham cracker crust to me… I got an ounce Saturday night and it’s almost gone. I’m definitely going back for more… maybe even in the cute little tin.

My experience with this tea may differ somewhat, because I have stopped trying to be so meticulous with my verdant teas and started brewing them the way tea was brewed in my childhood — Russian style. Throw an approximate amount of tea into a warm teapot, pour in some boiling water, wait an approximate amount of time, and dilute with boiling water if necessary to obtain an approximately preferable concentration. I know some people would cringe if I told them this. But you know what? Good tea is still good tea. It’s just less fuss this way…

I find myself reaching for the Yu Lu Yan Cha when I’m in a particular sort of mood. When the Golden Fleece would be too light, too perfect, and the Zhu Rong somehow doesn’t seem right. It’s like the Zhu Rong, or my favorite ceylon (strange as that might be?), but it strikes me as having something darker, deeper, murkier to it… it makes me think of a swamp, or a wet redwood forest…

(I’m being a little too rambly and poetic, but that’s because it’s five in the morning…)

drank Muscat by Lupicia

Got this one as a sample in the newsletter. It tastes… like a Lupicia flavored tea. It has that sort of indescribable quality to it — it smells like Lupicia and it tastes like Lupicia. The grape flavoring straddles the line between real and artifical — but not like American purple grape flavored, more like the grape candies at the Japanese supermarket. And it’s good, of course, but I’m not crazy about grape, so I’ll stick with the ones I like better.
