2977 Tasting Notes
backlogging from earlier this week –
wow! this is the most complex bottled tea I’ve ever had! Definitely not your typical american-style green tea. It is a bit sweet, a bit grassy, and bit roasty. It reminds me of both matcha and gemaicha, but obvioulsy much lighter than either. I will def be buying this again, and will try the more intense “dark” variety next time.
had it with 2 shots of syrup instead of the standard 3 ( I asked the barista how much they usually put in). She also confirmed that it’s plain syprup, not the melon, which is discontinued. I also got whipped cream b/c I like the texture it adds, but did cut down the amount. Shouldn’t have gotten the grande… maybe too much sugar? An hour later I have a stomach ache. Next time I’ll ask for only one shot. Or better yet, I’ll get real tea… This choice seemed like an indulgence at the time, but now seems more like masochism.
(backlogging)
Choked down half a cup, hot at a conference as there were no other options and I needed liquid/caffeine. Blegh! Not so much bad tasting, as flavorless and sad. Note to self – put teabags in new purse so that nextime I can BYOT!
Preparation
Just seeing the logo on the box brings back memories — basically this was the main tea that was available when I was growing up. How things have changed. Makes me think of my dad. He’d take a big box to work and have a cup with his lunch every day. This is what Americans thought tea was in the 60s and 70s for the most part. Lol.
My humans started carrying teabags with them (even though they prefer loose tea – just too impractical when dining out) to avoid the same situation.
Little Yellow Teapot, why don’t they use empty ones and fill them w/ their own loose tea. Best of both worlds:)
Well, as you can see, my humans don’t always think of the obvious. I will pass your suggestion along. Sounds like a good alternative. Of course, they could always put some loose tea in a little plastic baggie, but then, they’d need an infuser or a strainer… hmm, gets complicated. Your idea sounds better.
There are definitely some pretty good bagged/sachet tea, but filling them yourself elimintates the need for trial and error.
I think my rating was more a reflection of my frustration — I was at a conference where we all padi $20 for refreshments, and the only tea was a box of Lipton. At least a Bigelow variety pack would have shown some consideration (and been appropriate wince we were in Charleston). Anyway, in the right context I enjoy this tea. Piping hot with lemon in a diner on a cold, rainy day, it’s a lifesaver. Catching up with my mother in law over a large mug with milk & sugar, it’s great too. I’m sure my first tea was Lipton, and I’d rather have it than no tea at all!
Both last night and this morning, I made iced matcha lattes with about 8 oz cold almond milk, 1 tsp matcha, and either 1pkg raw sugar, or a few drops of agave nectar. Whisking the matcha in a bit of milk before mixing in the rest makes it nice and smooth. This is my current favorite way to drink matcha! It definitely gives me an energy boost and makes me more alert :-)
Preparation
Had a Vanilla Rooibos Tea Latte at Starbucks. It was ok. Next time I will ask them to leave out the sugar syrup that they usually add, because it created a sludgy texture and off flavor at the bottom of the cup. Overall this is ok but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it. I prefer the green tea latte actually – the kind made with some sort of matcha-esque concentrate. I go to Starbucks so rarely that I figured I’d try something new.

That was the quote on my teabag tag, and that’s how I feel today. Added 1 pc brown rock sugar and a splash of 2% milk. There’s definitely more spice than chocolate in this. Meh.
Preparation
Lovely pink color and kickin’ cranberry flavor!
Preparation
this tea looks just like the picture – if anything there is even more fruit. It is also the largest and darkest rooibos I’ve ever seen – not the red-orange sawdust I’m used to. It really doesn’t taste too rooibossy (I made that word up), but does have more depth to it than just hot cranberry juice.
1 tsp matcha + 8 oz strawberry yogurt (fat free, organic & probiotic) + 1/2 cup almond milk + 1 banana = deliciousness!
I serve my smoothis over whole ice cubes instead of blending them in – seems to keep it colder longer without it watering down as quickly.
Preparation
OMG serious energy burst about an hour later. Why does this always surprise me about matcha? really I should have matcha every morning! I love having ENERGY! WHEE!!
Had my first matcha yesterday (oops, I don’t think I posted, darn!) but you make yours sound soooo gooood and healthy, too. Yum!
I really disliked the decaf version of this, but I like this one – it has the right amount of vanilla for me (maybe too much for those who like their chai’s spicy).
I don’t know – I just recall not liking it… maybe it tasted “flat” the say decafs sometimes do? Or maybe it was jut an old bag. Or maybe I’m misremembering. I’ve had this (full caf) twice recently and liked it better than I expected to each time, so some how my previous experience with the decaf biased me.
