2977 Tasting Notes
added about 1/3tsp matcha in 1.5 oz warm milk to this tea to give it depth, sweetness, color, and TEA taste. By itself it’s too thin and the spices overpowering. With the matcha and milk it’s drinkable, but still nothing special. I’m keeping a few bags on hand for blending experiments like this, but overall it’s in my giveaway pile.
Preparation
My 52teas groundhog day special order arrived today! I managed to wait a whole 2 hrs before tearing it open. Two thumbs up for a tea that can taste tropical and refreshing even while it’s hot. Everyone else said it and they’re right – it smells/tastes like pina colada. I think I’m getting a bit of rum flavor too, but it may just be the sweetness of the honeybush. I don’t care. I love it. I only suspect I will like it better iced. Love the big slivers of coconut. Didn’t realize until re-reading ingredients that that’s real pineapple mixed in with the honeybush! Cool!
Directions say to steep 7-10 min. The two good reviews w time info on here were based on a 5 min steep. I set my timer for 7 min but got impatient and stopped at 5:30. Next time I will steep longer & stronger and try it iced. I bet it would also be good in a smoothie…
Preparation
The red rooibos, dried mint, chocolate bits, dried apple, and possibly almond are clearly visible in this tea. It’s a pretty, festive blend with the red tea and green mint. The dry “tea” smells exactly like mint chocolate too!
I know from previous experience that this tea does taste just like it smells, when its hot. This time’s no different – mint upfront, chocolate in the middle, and a sweet (but not cloying) finish. I also remember though that it cools the apple, which is just generically “sweet” when hot, lets out it’s flavor. Mint chocolate is good, mint chocolate apple is not good. So, this blend is good if you drink it fast and hot!
Adding cream may complement the flavor, but will also cool the tea, and therefore may bring out the apple. I’m not risking it this time around.
Preparation
got a sudden urge for this after reading about PG tips vs. Builders tea. This is just my fave black tea blend (I didn’t drink much black tea until recently). I just love how the hint of floral sweetness blends with the brisk maltiness into a more complex blend than I expected from these teabags. If I could handle the caffeine I’d probably drink this every morning.
Preparation
lovely bright peach & lemon scent from the bag – smells like lemon drops or other sugary candy. Lemon smell seems slightly more medicinal as it begins to steep in 6 oz water for 6 min.
Color: golden yellow-orange
Flavor: honestly, it tastes like medicinal lemon to me (cough drop or theraflu)
Added: 1 tsp sugar, which cut some of the medicinal taste, but is now almost too sweet. forgot it was only 6 oz water – 1/2 tsp or less sugar next time!
Verdict: undecided. It has a cheerful sunny color and upbeat flavor, but I am concerned about the medicinal taste. I really hoped to be blown away. Where’s the peach??? Will hold off rating for now…
Preparation
tasting a hint of peach, maybe, as it cools. Has anyone tried this iced? I feel like it would be better that way. Right now it’s like warm lemonade!
directions say to add to 8-16 oz cold water. I tried 11oz and it was too grassy/powdered tasting for me. So I added 7 oz orange juice and a handful of ice. I now have a 20oz bottle of healthy, immunity boosting beverage. There’s still some undissovled powder hiding in the bottom. The green tea and OJ are OK together. I am drinking this more for health/hydration than enjoyment though!
I bought a few packets of this powder just to boost an order total by $1-2. I may use it in smoothies in future instead of my matcha. Meh.
I had bought this awhile back with high hopes, and I was also disappointed.
