drank Matcha by Teavana

Mixed about 1 tsp with an 11oz Zico coconut water. Added about 1/4 cup orange juice and served over ice. Healthy, hydrating, and rather tasty.

Would be a great base for a smoothie with banana and/or pineapple & plain yogurt. (I just didn’t feel like digging out the blender.)

Iced 0 min, 30 sec

I wish I could drink matcha this late.

Janefan

It was this afternoon, actually. I’m afraid to drink it too late since!

drank 8 Herbs Tea by Teekanne

can’t find what the 8 herbs are, no info online…. I tasted predominately licorice/mint when hot, then some ginger as it cooled. I don’t normally like licorice but this was well blended and I wanted something herbal to soothe an upset tummy. Seems to have worked!

The dry tea is chock full of dried blue malva flowers, rose petals and lemon peel – it is a bit hard to get a well-blended scoop. Beautiful tea, but the company’s choice of a clear topped canister is clearly bad for the tea itself, though appealing to the consumer.

Brewed at 175 for 1 min as directed. Brews light to med yellow-gold with a light lemon/floral scent. Very slight bitterness, floral/lemon scent melds into an unidentifiable flavor, not particularly tropical or pineapple. Light grassiness on the finish and aftertaste. Tastes a little bit more like pineapple as it cools down, but it’s certainly not overwhelming. If you weren’t told it’s pineapple, you probably wouldn’t know. I’m getting more lemon. Maybe it’s just my taste buds today. I love tropical flavors but this is just too weak for me.

Maybe it’s better iced? Hot it’s kind of boring. I think I’d rather drink a plain green than a weakly flavored one. As a green this seems mild instead of grassy, which I do like. Ultimately I think I’d also rather look at this tea than brew/drink it. A beautiful tea should deliver in flavor as well as visual appeal (this is why blooming teas always disappoint me too). The fact that this tea is sold in a clear top canister speaks volumes – the company cares more about appearance than quality. I fell for it. Maybe it was weak because the light got in?

I will try it again iced one of these to see if it improves. If it doesn’t, maybe I’ll dump it in a bowl as potpourri…

drank Canadian Ice Wine by Culinary Teas

Very strong grape/wine flavor. Hardly taste the tea though. It’s a good tea for when you want wine but can’t/shouldn’t have it!

Carolyn

This sounds really good. Where did you find it?

Janefan

a friend who didn’t care for it gave it to me. They do have a website you can order from: http://www.culinaryteas.com/Flavored_Teas/Canadian_Ice_Wine_Tea.html
Looks like a 1oz sample is $2

Carolyn

Thank you. I will try them out.

My Hubby makes great sweet tea with this. We always have a pitcher on hand. Sweetened with a mix of white sugar and agave – it’s not as super-sweet as some would make it. This tea is very forgiving and hard to oversteep. Doesn’t get as bitter as other supermarket brands.

Bergamot is well balanced and accents but does not overpower the tea. Takes milk and sugar well. I don’t drink full caf black teas often but this is one I turn to when I need an am wakeup.

These are teabag-sized packets of powdered sencha green tea (not instant) with natural blueberry flavor. I bought them on a whim today at the grocery store on closeout sale, thinking they’d be a good substitute for those instant drink packets that can be dissolved in bottle of water (my hubby uses them sometimes).

It is a fine green powder, similar to matcha. The tea dissolves pretty well (stirred into a cup of cold filtered water with a few cubes of ice) with only a bit of reside. It comes out a murky olivey green. At least it looks natural instead of dayglo artificial green! The blueberry scent is strong, and the flavor is present but balanced. It does not overpower the green tea completely, but gives it a nice natural sweetness. (There is also maltodextrin in here which may be providing some sweetness?) I slurped this down pretty quick and thought about making a second glass. It’s a quick way to make refreshing iced tea without brewing/cooling/flavoring your own.

I do wish the bags were thinner and maybe held enough for 16oz worth of tea, so they could easily be used in a water bottle or reusable thermos. Oh well, using two (and opening/pouring carefully) wouldn’t be that hard.

The box says: after mixing, refrigerate and consume within 12 hours. So I guess I won’t be making a whole pitcher at once. Also it directs one to the Stash website for green tea ice cream and smoothie recipes. Cool! This would be great in a fruit smoothie.

This would probably also be good mixed with club soda. Will try later this week…
