309 Tasting Notes
I got the gourmet sips pack from adagio so it’d be easier for me to drink tea in class. Boiled water and put it into my timolino and threw it into my backpack. Once I got into class, the water was still hot and I threw the tea into my timolino and just waited.
I looked up and I saw my group members just staring at me and Ashley just said “She really likes tea”
Sooo yeah. That’s how my morning went.
This tea is a decent tea. Not the absolute best. It’s like… It’s tea. A bit grassier than what I expected, but I got the gourmet sips just for this reason. A collection of decent teas just to take with me so I won’t have to rush as much in the mornings.
I realized that because I like my rooibos with as much flavour as possible, I always add an extra gram of tea, and lessen the water volume by an oz. Always steeping it for as long as I can in boiling water.
Because of that, I’m going through rooibos teas like crazy.
My package of Oh, Canada (which I haven’t even had for a week yet) is only going to last me another 4-5 cups of tea. Like no. That is not okay. NOT AT ALL.
I think I’ve already set a schedule of drinking whatever the heck I want in the morning/afternoon, but I always drink a cup of rooibos as my last cup of the day. Nearly midnight and I’m finishing it off with this tea. Aww I actually don’t have that many rooibos teas left, which is kinda sad.
Green Dragon Pearls tonight because it’s almost 9 and that means no more black teas for me. I really shouldn’t have anything with caffeine and I should be having some of my herbals and rooibos… but no. I want my pearls tonight.
A single pearl is enough for like one or two steeps for me sooo one pearl it is!
This is my roommates tea. She asked me to sneak it into my David’s order because she wanted it and I’m all LEMME TRY SOME OKAY.
I smelled it and coconuts. I looked at the ingredients.. c o c o n u t s.
Okay well. If you can’t tell, I hate coconut. I’ve tried every possible coconut thing there is, and I never liked it UNTIL TEA CAME ALONG.
I’ve had coconut as a small flavour in teas and I have to say, it was decent. But this one, like the main flavour is coconut sooo let’s see if I like it! I’m all up for trying new things :)
Okay the first thing you see is legit coconut shavings soooo yeah. SO MUCH COCONUT.
Steeping still carries the coconut scent throughout.
Tasting it… why do I taste mint? There’s like an ever so slightly mint flavour… that’s weird. Definitely slightly buttery/oily, assuming it’s like from the oils of the coconut.
After a couple sips, yeah. Why do I taste mint? I didn’t have any mint teas today and I totally washed the strainer, and it’s a new mug and a new pot and.. oh this is weird I’M GOING CRAZY.
Overall, this tea is not too bad! Still a lot of coconut. There was this one tea that I had that had coconut in it that I barely tasted and I actually enjoyed it! But this one, oh it’s a lot. I’ll just leave the rest of it for my roommate to enjoy :)
Flavors: Butter, Coconut, Cream
just your average genmai-cha.
Nothing too special about this, I just decided that it’s been so long since I’ve had this! It’s in my timolino and I’ll be taking it to class with me. It really isn’t tea weather though.. way too warm but OH WELL. DON’T CARE.
I’ve got a midterm within the next hour and I just need my tea with me :)
Hold up just a moment. It’s not even 11:30!? But I’ve been studying for hourrrsssssss.
I seriously feels like I’ve gone through like 4 hours of stuff, but no. I’ve only been here for 2 and it’s not even noon.
Midterm at 2, gotta start drinking all my teas before then so I can WAKE UP. HA.
Derek Hale today, another blend from shmiracles. Also another fandom blend that I’m not actually a part of the fandom! Teen Wolf, right? Well, all I know about that show is that there are… wolves? And they’re of teen-age? Well, that’s what I’m assuming. And Derek was the pretty one.. or was it Stiles? Or they’re both pretty? I DON’T EVEN KNOW OKAY.
But Derek smells goooood. Smells like a tea I would enjoy :)
Chocolate teas do seem to appeal to me a bit more now. And I kinda am sorta in love with gunpowder in blends :)
I was going to steep it for the 2 minutes it says on adagio, but it started smelling like it was going to turn bitter so I stopped it after just a minute and a half WHICH IS GOOD BECAUSE THIS TEA IS GOOD.
Ahh it smells like… tea. Not as chocolatey and sweet as it is dry since the gunpowder took over for a bit.
okay. am lazy. going back to studying
I keep talking about how great this tea is and I love it so much and I’M RUNNING LOW ON MY GOLDEN HONEY DEW NO.
I only have about 5 sachets left.
I’m going to text my sister or my dad to see if they can run to San Francisco and get me some because… I want more, pretty please.
Probably one of the last teas from shmiracles tonight!
Finished my midterm (flat 80%. Ehh I’ll take it) and now time to study for philosophy tomorrow!
Smells super fruity dry. I almost never go for fruity because upon first smell, they tend to take the medicine route and it’s just not good to me? But alas, this was the first thing my hand picked up in my packs so Elven Nectar it is!
Fruity teas always smell weird to me dry, but steeping they always smell soooo good!
Peach, apricot and caramel blend with apple, marigold and cinnamon. Sounds good to me! The smell reminds me a bit of a darker version of Cara’s Elrond, but with a hint of cinnamon.
hmm. Nise and fruity! Definitely no medicine taste :) I get almost no caramel notes though, just the peach and apricot. I’m totally cool with that though, since I had Adagio’s caramel alone before and… no.
Flavors: Apricot, Peach
Up next from my day of everything shmiracles, is Natasha!
Okay. Lapsang. I have absolutely no idea how it’s supposed to taste like since I’ve only ever had it in one other blend: SMAUG.
Smaug was a very funny one. Pretty sure it was because of the Lapsang and peppermint.
At first whiff, Natasha, babe, you are a strong one. The Lapsang!! I have never had a tea with such a distinct flavour. I remember way long ago, there was a bacon blend on adagio and when I smelled Natasha, I was all DUDE. BACON. I don’t know how I feel about this tea. It’s like.. oh so nervous okay.
Every time I drink new tea, I brew 3g in 12oz. Length and temp determined by company recommendations. So let’s see how this tastes…
Brewing, it smells like a salty/fruity bacon. I’M NERVOUS FOR THIS, IF YOU CAN’T TELL. I’ve got Tony Stark in my bag of randoms as well, another tea that has lapsang and… I really don’t know how I feel about that tea okay.
About a minute left to brew and the lapsang toned down a bit and I’m smelling the assam. Oh nice and sweet and mellow assam. You are a lovely scent right now :)
Dude. This thing smells legit like bacon okay.
Turned out to be a bit bitter so I added more water to attempt to balance it out. It worked! But still. This blend though. She’s most definitely a strong one, not for the weak taste buds at all.
A very different blend! Definitely not the kind of tea I’d willingly purchase for myself, so a wonderful thank you to shmiracles for sending it to me. Not my favourite tea, but definitely a tea that I’m happy I was able to try :)
Probably not going to resteep, but I’ll forsure drink the entire cup.
Flavors: Ash, Wood
Going through all the teas I premeasured yesterday! Study day with tea. All day, every day! All the premeasured teas have gone into a pile next to me and the first one I [pick out, that’s the one I drink!
111th Birthday tea from shmiracles is the first one of the day :)
Definitely smell the almond from the package. I used to hate the smell of almond, but now it’s actually growing on me. Same with chocolate teas. Almond and chocolate in this tea, two of my least favourite flavours in teas and yet, I’m actually pretty excited for this!
Steeping, the oolong definitely takes over. THAT’S ANOTHER THING. I used to hate oolongs!! But dude. Now that I’m trying all these different types of teas and exploring, I’m learning to love them :)
Hmm… this tea is good? Ish. It’s like.. it’s right on the edge of being bitter, but it’s not as strong as I would like. But I actually really like the flavours together, surprisingly!
Added some honey to see if I can bring some of the flavours out and NOPE. DID NOT HELP AT ALL.
Well then. I ended up with slightly tasteless, bitter tea. Darn.
FLAVOUR-WISE, THEY ALL WORK TOGETHER. Fault on me. I usually use 3g of tea for 12oz, but I think for this, 3g or tea for the typical 8oz would do the trick.
