Swampwater from DAVIDsTEA

Hunan Gold from Adagio Teas

This is my first yellow tea and I really like it!
Smells like a black tea and has a lovely golden liquor.

Very light, dry, and super smooth, also a bit fruity. Delicious. Apparently this is similar to Darjeeling teas which means I may have to try some. I will definitely be getting more to have on hand and trying some new yellow teas.

Edit: This has cooled a bit and now I can really taste the fruit, lightly peachy I think. I got 2-3 infusions out of this, the last was very very light but still drinkable.

This tea is so fun! I love all the teas with little candy bits and fun stuff like cool colors. This smells amazing in the bag, sweet and fruity.

Brewed, it is awesome. My first steeping was a murky brown/green color, the second bright green at the beginning and then as I forgot about it (oops), it ended up a deep olive. Truly swampy.

Nice fruity taste, didn’t need to add any sugar. I think I can pick up the guava and it is tasty. The green rooibos is great (though I like red as well), light and fruity. Yum yum.

Definitely want to do this iced!

Jasmine Green Tea from Archer Farms
Golden Spring from Adagio Teas

Well after the Earl Grey failure this morning I knew I had to have something I enjoyed. I’ve tasted had this tea before but hadn’t joined Steepster yet. So without further ado…

The leaves are really pretty, the gold and black contrast nicely. They’re small, fuzzy wiry leaves with a smell that does remind me a little of a hay, but that doesn’t come across once brewed. The liquor is a deep amber that I wasn’t expecting.

This is a pretty smooth black tea, a little astringent. No bitterness at all. and I get the “meaty” aftertaste… I think. It may come from the thicker mouthfeel. A very tasty, savory tea overall.

Cream of Earl Grey (organic) from DAVIDsTEA

Alright, apparently I don’t like Earl Grey, who knew?
I can drink this if I add sugar but I don’t like the bergamot. I may give it another chance and try brewing it differently but… ew.

Anyone up for a swap of almost 50g of Cream of Earl Grey?

Oh Canada from DAVIDsTEA
95

Time for dessert! I finally got my order in from David’s Tea. This tea smells fantaaaaaaastic. Mapley mapley goodness, plus adorable little maple leaf sprinkles and chunks of caramel and toffee. I love tea that’s tasty and fun.

When I visited Canada with my French class way back in high school we visited a maple syrup shop/diner where before dinner they (jokingly) told us to try maple syrup on everything. I did (and I mean everything) and never looked back.

The maple carries into the steeped tea with notes of caramel. The rooibos isn’t overpowering, the maple really stands out (which is what I was hoping for!) but doesn’t punch you in the face. This is super yummy and I can’t wait to try it iced with a bit of sugar added.

Edit:
Successful second steep, less maple this time and more rooibos. Still has that rich sweetness from the toffee and caramel though.

Chocolate Puerh from Numi Organic Tea

Another easy cup while I’m away from home.

The bag smells very heavily of nutmeg but the ingredients/flavors mingle a lot better in the cup. It smells a bit earthy but doesn’t taste it. I can pick up the chocolate, and the spices give a little extra something to it. I think I may let this steep longer next time for a stronger cup.

True Blueberry from Celestial Seasonings
67

Easy peasy iced tea while I’m away from home. Even as I branch out to more and more loose tea I still go back to these for something simple that I know I can’t mess up.
True Blueberry is true to it’s name. I don’t pick up a huge amount of the hibiscus or other ingredients, and it’s not too tart.

Jasmine Tea from Fujian Tea
50

Cold brewed overnight. A little bitter so I added some simple syrup. Not sure I like the jasmine, it’s a little strong. Very very flowery. Luckily this was super cheap, less than 3 dollars. Also comes in a nice tin that I’ll stick another label on and reuse later.

Foxtrot from Adagio Teas
85

Mmmm peppermint. A new favorite evening tea, relaxing and tasty. I can definitely taste the chamomile, and the rooibos kind of blends in with the rest of tea. Which is good right? It is a blend after all. I think I will buy some more of this and save it for those days I need a little “feel better” tea.

Edit: second steeping mellows out the peppermint a bit. I think the blend could use a bit more rooibos.

White Peach from Adagio Teas
75

Tea smells lovely out of the tin, nice and peachy.
I cold brewed this and added a tiny bit of simple syrup (which I do for pretty much all my iced teas). I may have left this alone a little two long because I’m getting a slight bitterness (can this happen with cold brewed tea?). The sugar helps bring out the peach a little more.

Will definitely try this hot brewed, and maybe iced again with a shorter time period.

Black Dragon Pearls from Adagio Teas
87

Brewed with the Ingenuitea with 12 oz of boiling water, 5 pearls(4g), and steeped for 3 minutes. I think I’ll try for another infusion as well…

The dry leaf has a bit of an earthy scent, but I can’t pick up much. I did a rinse on these to help open the tea up, and I think because one time I brewed these and got a bit of dustiness in the tea. It’s fun to watch the pearls slowly unfurl.

Really pretty burnt orange/brown color and nice smell. Cocoa, earth, and smoke I think.
I pick up the smokey taste, which I love, and black tea-ness. Still getting this whole tasting thing down. :) I think some astringency because it does leave my mouth a bit dry. Tasty though!

Edit: second infusion is just as good, if not better!

Rooibos Vanilla from Adagio Teas
87

Hot brewed and then iced. Yum yum.
Very strong vanilla smell out of the tin, but it mellows out nicely in the cup. Used about a tablespoon of tea for 8 oz. of water, then added ice. May do a longer brew/use more tea next time. Wish it was a bit stronger. Also added a bit of simple syrup to sweeten it up.

Sakura Sencha from Wegmans
20

Ew. Maybe I just don’t like green tea or maybe I haven’t found the right one. Couldn’t really pick up any of what the sakura was supposed to add, just vegetal/grassy/something that I didn’t care for.

Wegmans teas are very hit or miss and I think this is a miss. I have a bit left still, so I will give it a second chance with a hot brew though.

Superfruit White Mangosteen with Peach from Lipton
34

So I’m trying to get rid of these and used about four up last doing cold brew iced tea. This steeped at a little over 48 hours.

Still a very light taste, the peach is not quite as overwhelming. I can’t even taste the mangosteen (possibly not even sure what that tastes like).

Pretty much a “bleh” tea. I had bought these bags when I didn’t know much about tea, so it’s about time to use them up and never think of them again. ;)

Peppermint from Adagio Teas
60

Bam. In your face pure, delicious peppermint flavor. I drink this straight, usually for upset stomachs. Super refreshing.

Green Rooibos Bonita from Adagio Teas
67

Very pretty tea!
Light taste, fruity and sweet. Perhaps a little heavy on the peach, it’s hard to pick out some of the other flavors. Definitely going to try it iced next.

Steeped as advised by Adagio, with a bit more leaf.

Yerba Mate from Guayaki

Superfruit White Mangosteen with Peach from Lipton
34

I’ve had this in the cabinet for a while, and feel this need to drink everything I can’t give away. It’s alright. I don’t have a super refined palate (yet!), but the mangosteen and peach are pretty indistinguishable, just a light “fruity” flavor.
