99 Tasting Notes
Normally I toss some extra sachets of random teas into my bag so I always have at least something on hand. This was one of those teas for me today.
When my sis got me this one to try, she told me it was one of her favorites so I was really excited about it. It just doesn’t do it for me though. I can’t exactly place it as pomegranate, although it does have a fruitiness. There’s also a bit of… butteryness??? Idk, is that even right? I don’t have much experience with tea, let alone oolong specifically to know what I’m supposed to be tasting, versus what I’m actually tasting. whoops.
This was my morning tea, I guesstimated on the amount. What? I was tired! I also added some sugar(albeit a little bit heavy handed.) Good gracious was it cold out today!! The trees were gorgeous though. The sun was out, beautifully blue skies, and all the trees had a delicate, sparkling frost. I thought I would be able to just sip this through my morning pre-store opening activities, but it was so good it was all gone even before I got to work :( So even though I didn’t get to enjoy this as long as I had hoped, it did fulfill all of my roasty-toasty, hazelnutty wishes.
So I brewed this one up in my travel mug before work today (we set a new store theme after hours today!) I’m glad I did because it was actually nice and comforting today. Granted I did pick out the pepper so it didn’t have that weird spice thing going on as much. With the extra spice out of the way, it helped me get through some of those crazy moments,…
aka, the whole Floorset. ("Where’s my marketing? We are missing products! Which props do I use? That table looks wrong. These aren’t spaced right. I can’t find it! Can you hang these signs? We need to run trash! Did you remember to clean the shelves? Box those up!) lol, it’s definitely crazy, but with a good amount of fun as well. And guess who gets to be up bright and early to put on the finishing touches? THIS GIRL.
This is my first time cold brewing this one (about 20ish hours maybe?) Super enjoyable! I only had a sip then put it back in fridge for tomorrow since it’s pretty late already. Woodsy, vanilla, and that touch of floral from the lavender. I do need to make this one more often, but it won’t be a staple.
The first sample I received of this was a nice little add on from Adagio, and I ended up giving the whole thing to a friend. My next order I actually received another sample and it has just been hanging out. I prepared this as a cold brew (about 12hrs) Unsweetened you can really smell the vanilla. Being a dessert tea aficionado I sweetened it up with some simple syrup I made, and it being a nice enjoyable sweet tea. I could taste more caramel flavor after I added sweetener, probably because I made my syrup with sugar in the raw.
I probably won’t make any of this hot. I’ve been on a mission to figure out cold brewing lol. Hopefully the fiance will enjoy a large pitcher of this.
Flavors: Caramel, Vanilla
I almost reached for a different tea but I grabbed this one because I have a bunch from when it was on sale. I also figure that as soon as it starts warming up I will not be in the mood for this one for a loooong while. This one is either finicky, or my taste buds can’t make up their mind. It just seems really inconsistent. Sometimes this is really flavorful, other times it’s just meh.
Today was a good day, but not the best.
ETA: why in the world am I still up! It’s almost 4am and this girl really needs to get some shut eye!
So my mom got me this gift set for my birthday, right, and it included a cute little glass tea pot, a glass infuser, two double wall teacups, and a bag of blooming teas. This was an incredibly sweet gesture. We live in different states and don’t communicate very often. The fact that she not only picked up on and remembered that I have a liking *cough obsession *cough with tea, but that she also went out of her way to do a whole gift set says a lot.
It’s been a couple months, and while I’ve wanted to try out the set I really didn’t want to test that tea O.o
She asked me today if I had tried it yet (and incidentally I was actually thinking about testing it out) and to send her a pic of the bloomed tea. The “tea making experience” is a lot of fun with this, and I would love to do this for a few friends- HOWEVER- not with this tea. Unless of course, you like tea that tastes like you accidentally steeped your paper napkin instead of your tea. blargh.
Bottom line? I love my little tea pot and will use it for other blooming teas once I muster up the courage to try some.
I made two teas to serve cold tonight for my movie night, this one and the blackberry mojito. I really like this one cold, and actually really enjoyed subsequent steepings. They were less in-your-face cherry.
Now that movie night is over, I am watching “Too Cute” with my Samoyed, and finishing up the leftover white-chocolate covered popcorn I made as take-away gifts for tonight :)
ETA: I’m drinking the first steeping right now (I steeped up all my tea, labeled them, and popped them in the fridge to have cold) and I don’t like it as much as the second. The first is more tart. hmm.
