I think I missed actually drinking this earlier…. but I located it (randomly) in a bag at my boyfriend’s place, and opted to try some! It was actually surprisingly tasty! Really tasted like grapefruit – deliciously tangy and aromatic. Actually quite a good herbal.

Om nom nom. Drank some of this while watching election coverage. Deliciously spicy and pumpkiny :) Classic Butiki pumpkin flavour, and a great base. All in all, a happy evening.

Without going and actually looking at the bag… I think this is the tea that I have from MissB – thanks! My initial impression was of a coconut/butterscotch white, one of those teas that many companies seem to have (e.g. Butterscotch Potion, Dream, etc.). However, this also contains blueberries, which is an interesting twist, and although the white tea and coconut are reminiscent of the butterscotch teas, it does seem somewhat different. Another case of overleafing though (I really need to relocate my measuring spoons back to the tea area), so it was a touch strong, but enjoyable enough. Very coconutty, but light. I’ll have to pay a bit more attention for the blueberry next time.

Picked up some of the latest batch of this from Verdant recently, and had some this weekend. I think I may have overleafed a bit, because it was pretty strong (I was in a rush and didn’t measure), so I’m not really sure yet whether I’m a fan of this harvest or not. It was still good, but just a touch too potent.

This tea has lost some of its initial punch in the aroma, but is still pretty tasty! I did, sadly, overleaf it though (or perhaps oversteeped, or didn’t use 180C water when I should have), so it was a bit astringent and strong. Definitely user error though, and a bit of dilution helped.

A couple quick weekend notes.

Found this randomly in some teas at my boyfriend’s place, so drank it while watching Jurassic World, which was fairly enjoyable. Moreso than this tea, that’s for sure. It wasn’t bad, but honestly, it really didn’t taste pumpkiny at all, just kind of spiced and cardboardy. Not as bad as some rooibos though, by a long shot, but I’m perfectly ok with it not having come back this year!

Second tea from the September tea box!

As I said in my review for Reserve Autumn Laoshan Bilochun, this tea had the typical Laoshan green beany flavours, along with a wonderful brown sugary sweetness. This tea was a little bit stronger/sharper than the Bilochun, but was also quite enjoyable. I’m not sure I could really pick a favourite.

Of note – the leaves of this tea are long and thin and twisty. It’s kind of neat!

So I’m going to go with…. nobody else has reviewed Verdant’s September tea box yet?? Or at least not this tea? I couldn’t find a listing for it so I made one…

Anyhow, this was one of the 5 teas in September’s box. I’m not the hugest fan of greens BUT I do like those from Verdant! And have a ton I really need to drink up, and feel guilty about…

So I’m going to try and drink these five as soon as I can (though one’s a roasted oolong, so should have a little more longevity?)

I started with this tea and the Laoshan Pine Needle Green, because they sounded the most interesting. A Reserve tea and a new tea! Both smell incredibly delicious – sweet, fragrant, chewy green beans… so delicious. Brewed up (I accidentally left the infusers in for 4 minutes instead of my intended 2 – but the teas were ok!) this particular tea was more caramelly/brown sugary sweet than the Pine Needle Green, which was… sharper, though with a similar flavour profile. Both were very, very delicious though, and reminded me why I bought green teas from Verdant. WIll have to bring out the stash and get some green tea drinking done!

I really need to try Verdant’s green teas sometime! Need to use up a lot more of my higher quality greens before that though…

Thanks to Sil, I got to sample this tea! Wasn’t planning on it, but her tales of how it is the only peachy tea she’s been enjoying lately (is that right?) made me curious.

I believe one of the comments was that this tea tastes somewhat apricotty – whether I’m confusing it with another tea or not, that was kind of my impression. I do like apricot. In fact, I should probably a) finish that delicious apricot blend I have from 52teas and b) petition for it to be reblended (but that’s another story).

So anyhow, this was apricotty/peachy, and green. The base was fine, no comment either way, really, and the flavouring was ok, but I’m having difficulty enjoying too many fruity greens lately, so I was thankful to only have a cup of this. I can see how it could be more enjoyable than other peach teas (there’s something about peachy teas that’s a total turnoff for me now; I’m not sure why), but it just doesn’t interest my tastebuds at this time.

Quite delicious. Had some more of this primarily because the bag was next to the teapot (did I tell Steepster I got a variable temp B&D kettle? If not, I did. It’s great. I love it. My favourite part is how it tells me the water temp as it cools, so I don’t have to guess as to whether I should reheat the water or just use it. It has a stay-warm function but that’s fairly unnecessary for me.)

Anyways, after that long preamble, I enjoyed this tea, not unexpectedly. I need to get around to trying the other one from Sil, but I’m not 100% sure where it is right now. I’ve been carting teas all about, and there are about 10 different places it could be….

It tells you the water temp while it cools? Wow that’s fancy!

Profile

Bio

I have always been a tea fan (primarily herbals and Japanese greens/oolongs) but in the last year or so, tea has become increasingly more appealing as not only a delicious, calming drink, but as a relatively cheap, healthy reward or treat to give myself when I deserve something. I should clarify that, however; the reward is expanding my tea cupboard, not drinking tea – I place no restrictions on myself in terms of drinking anything from my cupboard as that would defeat my many goals!

My DavidsTea addiction was born in late 2011, despite having spent nearly a year intentionally avoiding their local mall location (but apparently it was just avoiding the inevitable!). I seem to have some desire to try every tea they’ve ever had, so much of my stash is from there, although I’ve recently branched out and ordered from numerous other companies.

I like to try and drink all my teas unaltered, as one of the main reasons I’m drinking tea other than for the flavour is to be healthy and increase my water intake without adding too many calories! I’ve found that the trick in this regard is to be very careful about steeping time, as most teas are quite pleasant to drink straight as long as they haven’t been oversteeped. However, I tend to be forgetful (particularly at work) when I don’t set a timer, resulting in a few horrors (The Earl’s Garden is not so pleasant after, say, 7+ minutes of steeping).

I’m currently trying to figure out which types of teas are my favourites. Herbals are no longer at the top; oolongs have thoroughly taken over that spot, with greens a reasonably close second. My preference is for straight versions of both, but I do love a good flavoured oolong (flavoured greens are really hit or miss for me). Herbals I do love iced/cold-brewed, but I drink few routinely (Mulberry Magic from DavidsTea being a notable exception). I’m learning to like straight black teas thanks to the chocolatey, malty, delicious Laoshan Black from Verdant Tea, and malty, caramelly flavoured blacks work for me, but I’m pretty picky about anything with astringency. Lately I’ve found red rooibos to be rather medicinal, which I dislike, but green rooibos and honeybush blends are tolerable. I haven’t explored pu’erh, mate, or guayasa a great deal (although I have a few options in my cupboard).

I’ve decided to institute a rating system so my ratings will be more consistent. Following the smiley/frowny faces Steepster gives us:

100: This tea is amazing and I will go out of my way to keep it in stock.

85-99: My core collection (or a tea that would be, if I was allowing myself to restock everything!) Teas I get cravings for, and drink often.

75-84: Good but not amazing; I might keep these in stock sparingly depending on current preferences.

67-74: Not bad, I’ll happily finish what I have but probably won’t ever buy it again as there’s likely something rated more highly that I prefer.

51-66: Drinkable and maybe has some aspect that I like, but not really worth picking up again.

34-50: Not for me, but I can see why others might like it. I’ll make it through the cup and maybe experiment with the rest to get rid of it.

0-33: It’s a struggle to get through the cup, if I do at all. I will not willingly consume this one again, and will attempt to get rid of the rest of the tea if I have any left.
