1719 Tasting Notes
So on top of everything else, went to heat up water in the micronuker and after 3 seconds it went Zzzzzzzt and quit. So a quick trip to ‘The Wal-mart’ and I now I have hot water for this mug-o-delight. (One of these days I need a kettle for home) While I enjoy this, it almost seems wrong to add flavors to a delicate white. The bergamot is not heavy and peppery like the green version. It is just a relaxing light cup.
I apologize Derek and Peony Tea S for not getting a review up on this one yet. I have been beyond stressed. I went over my notes and can’t make heads or tails of them. Luckily I have more tea to sample and will have another go at it hopfully this week.
What I do know is this was lightly charcoal flavored in a good way with darker floral notes in the first cup that get brighter and sweeter as it is re-steeped. This makes for an abundant amount of leaf in the press. Do not attempt to use a tea ball with this one. Way too much leaf expansion for brewing in that manner. It is one of only a couple I have steeped in my French press that I did not push the plunger all the way down before pouring so as not to stress the leaf.
Ok, so I had more to work with from my notes than I thought. Not giving this a number until further study but I did love it.
2 cups of my favorite fannings in a paper bag. I know, it sounds so appetizing when you say it that way. lol But it is a nice wake me up on a RAINY! Saturday morning. Ok, its really a drizzle but it has been so long I had almost forgotten what it felt like to stand out in it.
I thought I was finally coming to grips with this horrible week. I made a cup of this and was thoroughly enjoying it. Then the owner of the company came in and told me he had just let go one of my friends. We have worked together for over 31 years. They started with the oldest with most senority. Guess I will be next. Very sad day. Glad I had a brief moment of peace today with this cup.
That sounds slightly illegal for them to do – letting people go before they have their full investment in their retirement perhaps?
We’ve been through the “living under the guillotine” thing with my husband’s job. Hurting with you and praying.
Thanks all. I have been hearing from some of the others from the office. They are in total shock as well.
Upping the rating. Steeped 2 minutes. The green base was so sweet and fresh. The rice is less pronounced the way I brewed it today but still adds a wonderful flavor to the cup. Got me through a really bad attitude this afternoon. Every time I started to say things I shouldn’t I took a sip. Unfortunately, I ran out of sip before I ran out of time at work. sigh. Good tea.
If you like caffeine free rooibos, this is a fun one. It’s vanilla up front followed by sassafras root and rooibos. I used half the sample and steeped it twice. Enjoyed hot.
Then I used the rest of the sample, steeped, then chilled. I poured this over ice cream. The rooibos flavor is more prominant and darker when done this way. It did make a fun drink that did not last long.
Preparation
First off, the picture does not do this leaf justice. This is exquisitely gorgeous. Long and slender. The dry leaf smells like fresh mown hay – back when we used to get rain and the hay fields grew, but I digress. The taste is very much like it smells. This is an awesome white peony. I got 4 steeps from the leaf before I stopped. I posted a bit more on my blog http://theeverdayteablog.blogspot.com/2012/07/peony-tea-s-white-peony.html
Thank you Derek and Peony Tea S. for sharing this sample.
