I’ll never forget the time I was home from college and sick as a dog. My throat was raw, I couldn’t stop coughing…much like I am now. Mom was away visiting family in Michigan (we lived in Tennessee) and my dad took me to a Chinese restaurant, ordered a big bowl of hot and sour soup, and told me to eat it. Sure that it would only make me sicker and I wouldn’t be able to taste anything anyway, I defiantly took a bite and nearly spat it back out. It was hot! And sour! Shocking, I know. But when I actually swallowed the mouthful, I was in heaven. It burned all the way down my throat and left relief in its wake. It warmed my chest and helped ease my cough….it was amazing.
Since then, when I’m sick, I want hot and sour. I want that burn.
This tea gives me that delicious burn and it’s a sneaky little beast. The mouthfeel is all sweetness and mango juicyness. The minute I swallow, though, the starts to burn and it is glorious. I am glad I stocked up before they discontinued it, and I’m taking some down to Tennessee to share with my Dad while we’re there over Christmas.
Now I’ve got to gather the courage to try the hot and sour soup I just made…I think I got a little red pepper flake happy and it was slowcooking for the last 7 hours, so you know it’s gonna be crazy spicy.
Wish me luck!
