1473 Tasting Notes

So on our trek down to Nashville (from Toronto), we stopped for lunch in a little place called Ashland, Ohio. Imagine my wife’s touristy glee when the restaurant was next to a big barn with a huge sign out front: “Grandpa’s Cheese Barn”.

So of course we stopped in, expecting a touristy, kitchy place full of country goodies.

We didn’t expect to find a whole display of loose leaf tea. A big bag of white tea for $6? Hey, even if it’s crap, that’s a good price.

It’s not crap. I’m actually rather in love with this one. I over sweetened it, because there is a lot of natural sweetness in the tea. It’s fruity and light and wonderful for this sunny summer day!

That is not so far from me…I have never stopped in there!

Dinosara

I love that story! Who expects to find tea in Grandpa’s Cheese Barn??

Daddyselephant

You should! We had a lot of fun!

Daddyselephant

We certainly didn’t! XD

drank Grapefruit by Adagio Teas
1473 tasting notes

I wasn’t crazy about this tea because I didn’t think I could taste the grapefruit. But then I realized I was looking for Ruby Red grapefruit. When I began looking for white grapefruit, it was right there and super tasty! I don’t think this is one I’d feel the need to buy, but I’m grateful to be trying it!

My diet crashed and burned today. Note to self: When De is working until 9 and your big meal won’t be until 10, plan your bigger snacks in the evening, mkay? Guh. Made a cuppa this to try and curb the cravings, but as I waited for it to cool, I ate half of a huge tootsie roll, a candy bar, half a bag of crispy mini’s…guh. But this did work when I got around to drinking it. I’m still not a huge fan of the taste, and I likely will not replace it when the time comes.

Jenn

I feel you on the late night dinners. My husband rarely gets home before eight, and I don’t want to eat without him. I think you showed incredible restraint in not eating the entire huge Tootsie Roll. I used to love the Tootsies and I wouldn’t have been so strong.

Daddyselephant

I…only ate half because that’s all that was left XD.

Indigobloom

oh I know the feeling! ick. I turn to apple cider vinegar on days like that… but still, it can only go so far :s

drank Peach by Adagio Teas

I am very surprised and pleased by this tea! The peach is juicy, the black is strong but not too strong…I could fall for this tea! The Southern gal in me is over the moon about how good this is!

This tea will forever be linked with our cat, Pekoe, in my head now. I made a tea for one pot earlier this morning. The first cup was nearly knocked over by Pekoe racing around the house. The second I gulped after a terrifying 20 minute frantic search for Pekoe after the door was left open and she got out (both of our cats are strictly indoor, we live near a very busy street). The good news is, she did come when she was called. I desperately needed something to calm my nerves, and this did the trick. It’s smooth and creamy without cream…yum. Definitely stocking up next time I’m in store.

Glad you found Pekoe. I know the feeling of losing track of a cat and thinking they got out. Our old cat Squeak did that one time. We searched for hours inside and out and finally found him 3 hours later curled all around the hot water heater in the basement, asleep.

Daddyselephant

Well, we did learn that Pekoe is just as afraid of the outside as Rosabella, which is good. I opened the door and called for her and she came tearing out of the neighbor’s bushes with an air of “OMGWHATTOOKYOUSOLONGTHEREISNOCEILINGAAAAH”. When I was younger, my cat, Socks, managed to find herself lost when my brother’s dog came for a visit. My Dad accidentally shut her in a drawer, but she didn’t even notice, she just slept on >.<

I’m with Jenn on this one. Dry, I could not wait to try it. I made a pot and chilled it overnight. This morning, all I taste is sage with a hint of hibiscus. Bully is a good word for it. Maybe if I add a bit of sweetener…

Thank you so much for sending out the free samples, Tea Forte and for including Canada! Your generosity alone has made want to support your company…just not these teas. Oh well! I’m sure I can find something that catches my eye. ;)

Edit: The sweetener helped, and now I’m getting big juicy blueberry with a background of sage. Bumping this up a bit. Still too much sage for me, though.

I didn’t care for this at all. The mint was nice on this hot day, but the orange tastes like orange peel, which…I don’t care for. I will not be replacing this one.

drank Read My Lips by DAVIDsTEA

Saaaaad, I ruined this. I dumped a perfect teaspoon into my perfect mug. As I waited for the water to boil, I decided to add some vanilla black to bring out the vanilla. But then I doubted myself. I thought it would be too strong, so I added a splash of soy milk…which promptly dulled all the flavors. So sad!

I resteeped the leaves and got a hint of the awesomeness it could have been, so I’ll definitely be trying again!

Cattibrie

Add some Creme de Menthe to your Read My Lips. So amazing.

MaddHatter

Cattibrie, you are an eeevil genius!

Cattibrie

I can’t take credit for it. I read it on facebook. And it was almost as good when Creme de Menthe was added to Chocolate Rocket.

MaddHatter

Ooh, chocolate, raspberries.. Mint! Eeeeexcelent.

Formerly aisling of tea, now you can call me ele .

“You can forgive a murder, but never a mistake while preparing tea.” Chinese proverb

Labels? Here you go: Femme, Wife, Lesbian, Homemaker, Happy. Don’t forget tea fanatic!

New label as of May, 2015: Diabetic. I’m using tea to satisfy my sweet tooth cravings and keep me hydrated without hurting my system or messing with my blood sugar.

Ah, tea. My love for you is ever changing. At my last update, I was all about the rooibos and now I hardly drink it. I only occasionally had an oolong and now I have one just about every day. I’ve learned the art of resteeping and coldbrewing and kombucha. I have a lovely little tea pet named…well, I haven’t decided on a name for him yet. I also have five! live pets, a tabby cat named Rosabella Francis (Bella for short), a ginger cat named Orange Julius Pekoe (Pekoe), a white and grey cat named Earl Jean Grey (Earlie), a tuxedo cat (and the only boy in the house) Prince Erik Darien Darjeeling (JiJi) and a red foot tortoise named Da Hong Pao (Pao). So if you see me referring to my girls, I don’t have kids, just animals.

As for tea, I love oolongs, herbals, and black tea. Since I am no longer working, I no longer feel the constant need for a mate energy boost, though I do still reach for it from time to time. I also drink less matcha, though I do throw a spoonful or two in when I’m making smoothies. Most of my tea I drink coldbrewed, and since I discovered coldbrewed rooibos was giving me headaches, I’m drinking less and less of it. Straight pu-erh is not a thing I enjoy, but there are a few flavored blends I like. Greens are still too finicky for me to bother with hot, but they make great cold brews.

I am by no means a tea purist. I greatly enjoy flavored teas and I put stevia in all of my teas. It’s just how I do.

I think I’m going to name my tea pet Mr. Turtle. Even though he’s a tortoise.
