This is the coziest tasting tea in my cupboard. Every sip is part tea, part earl grey, and part comfort. I especially like that though there’s strong flavoring to this tea, it’s still clearly tea. A lovely way to kick off this week!

Update: The baby might love this tea, too, as he’s kicking around a lot more than is typical at this time of day. That, or he hates it. I’m going to go with love, though. :)

Another Update: This tea is best pretty hot. As it cools to the temperature which I normally prefer my tea, it’s a bit bitter.

Who knows…you may be developing a mini-steepster in utero :o) (Suddenly I’m hearing the Muppet Babies theme song: Steep—-ster Babies, there’s nothing we can’t do; Steep—-ster Babies, put on a pot to brew…)

LOL, fun song! Hopefully he’ll be someone I can share a good cup with. ;)

I’m still working on my high school sophomore; he likes the THEORY of tea drinking, but in practice, we haven’t landed on anything he likes.

Yay! I finally tried a cup of this today when visiting my friend Kate. It was Fabulous! However, drinking this tea just made me want to get it for my own cupboard, so that I could try it with different steeping parameters and add ins…. so now the big question is: should the next order be from Mariage Freres or from Samovar?!

My vote goes to Samovar! But then again, I’ve never tried Mariage Freres.

Between your recommendation and today’s Steepster Select, I’m going with Samovar for this order, and MF for the next one. :)

Yay Samovar!

it’s heeeeeeeere!

Since this was featured on Steepster Select yesterday, I figured today was the day to give it a try. You can see pictures here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lauren_pressley/tags/sinharaja/show/

It’s an amazing tea for a ceylon… which seems to be the consensus. I’ve been less and less interested in ceylons lately (probably because a decaf ceylon is the base of most of the tea I’ve been drinking, and all of that is less than inspiring). However, this might bring me back. It was a bit sweeter than I would have expected, and I got almost a floral note. That floral quality could have come from the raisins I had just before hand, though. :)

So, a solid tea. Not one of the Golden Moons going on my shopping list, but one I’m going to keep in mind in case I want to stock up on some ceylon!

Neat photo stream!

Awesome picture! Next time, try the second steep of it. Mmmm! Ala sophistre, it’s really sweet and yummy.

YUM! Can’t wait to try this one … loved your photos and your teaware. The tea color looks so inviting!

Thanks for the comments on the photos!

@teaplz I read others’ reviews after trying it, and got the resteep news too late!! I guess that just means I’ll need to try this tea again. :)

And I finished another sample!! It’s a good no caffeine option; which I guess would be obvious since it’s the only herbal one I’ve finished up at this point. It’s still berry-licious! :)

I’ve been into tea, at some level, since college with a first tin of loose tea brought back by my parents from Oxford. My love of tea increased with a visit to Boston and a chance cup at Tealuxe. Since then I’ve only gotten more interested in tea and have developed more of an appreciation for it.

tea rating guide
(updated 12/2010)

100: a perfect cuppa. these are the teas I’ll keep in my cupboard and tend to be one per type of tea.

90-99: will definitely get more of this tea

80-89: likely to get more and perhaps it will become a favorite with time

70-79: very good, depending on my mood or the season

60-69: wouldn’t actively try to get this tea, but also wouldn’t avoid it in a tea shop or restaurant

50-59: run-of-the-mill tea for me

40-49: decent, would hit the spot in some moods, but probably wouldn’t purchase it for my cupboard

30-39: okay, will try again, maybe

20-29: meh. I’d try this tea again if no other were available

10-19: drinkable, but a forced cup

0-9: didn’t even finish the cup
