34 Tasting Notes

Cranberry Apple from Bigelow

Another work tea, pretty good strong taste without overpowering sweetness. Doesn’t resteep at all though.

Pomegranate Green Tea from The Republic of Tea
77

Someone brought this in at my work, and it is delicious! All the joys of a fruit tea, but without being super overpowering. I like the soft edge from the green tea versus the usual stronger bitterness (astringency?) to the edges of flavored black teas. PLUS, I can usually resteep this gem at least once for a second well-tasting (less full-bodied of course, but still good) cup of tea. I’m giving this guy an extra good rating for withstanding the trials of being a work-related tea.

king's oolong from Ten Ren's Tea
81

A decently long time ago I bought a ginseng oolong tea from Ten Ren that I labeled “kings tea,” so I’m not sure where to rate this since there seems to be both a kings tea and a ginseng oolong, but I’m pretty sure they are the same thing. Anyway, its highly delicious and makes for a soothing reading companion. Perfect for dreary rainy sundays.

Earl Grey from Twinings
77

Woke up in a terrible mood, hiding at my desk at work and keeping calm with this lovely lady. She’s the only thing keeping me from irritably snapping at boring co-workers, so she gets an extra-high rating this morning.

Tsugaru Green from Lupicia
77

hmm nom nom delicious, one of my favorites from Lupicia.

Darjeeling from Bigelow
47

Um, its warm. And…not earl grey or lipton. My third option at work for when I’m tired of having the same taste all the time, like a slight kick-in-the-face in the morning to get me jumpstarted. Nothing unique though, and doesn’t do well for a second steep. I’m sure it would taste better if I had the ability to properly drink it with better temperatures, etc, but at work its ehh.

Earl Grey from Harney & Sons
64

Also had this at a recent meeting in tea-bag form, they had a few Harney & Sons options. I love earl grey and this was did not dissatisfy. Bc I just left the tea bag in the cup while sitting in meetings it wasn’t a spectacularly controlled cup of deliciousness, but I’m sure it can be.

Sencha from Harney & Sons
74

Had this at a meeting in tea-bag form recently. Really nice simple green tea, kept me going all day. I’ll have to try some at home so I can play around with steeping times and temperatures, but it stayed pretty good even in the steeping-forever-not-paying-attention fashion that is meetings.

Ooooh Darjeeling from Adagio Teas
69

received this as part of the savant oolong sampler, and while its not bad by any means, I’ve had much better oolongs. Its a little too strong/sharp for some of its taste, maybe even a bit bitter? Doesn’t really hold a candle against their oolong #18. Still a good tea, but I wouldn’t buy it again.

Mint Medley (Herb Tea) from Bigelow

hmm, its a mint tea. Kinddddd of tastes like my toothpaste. Not awful by any means, but nothing special.

Iron Goddess from Rishi Tea
79

This is great, I just ordered it at a local cafe. A great oolong with a lasting mouth-feel thats really enjoyable. Ordered it at a cafe, but will definitely look into ordering some to bring home.

Jade Oolong #18 from Adagio Teas
86

I love Adagio. I order this yesterday and it was at my door when I got back from work today. Amazing service (and super cheap shipping!). Anyway, I bought this to support their Roots Campaign for May (and bc I loveee oolongs), and it absolutely does not disappoint! I love the strong initial taste (still not so good at figuring out WHAT I’m tasting, but its deliciously oolong in any case) and the rest goes down smoothly. Smells great, and the tea leaves are beautiful both when dry (love the curly-knot look of these types of oolongs) and when wet (big, unfurled leaves). Glad that I made the leap to get the 5oz instead of the sampler.

only thing supporting me while working on a sunday. Warm and caffeinated.

Egyptian Licorice Mint from Yogi Tea

English Breakfast Tea Blend from Pickwick
48

Your standard black tea. Has a nice sharp taste to help wake you up in the morning, for the rest nothing too special. I usually like pickwick teas for their strong smells (doesn’t always transfer over to strong taste), but this one doesn’t really have that.

Napa Blanc from Lupicia

This tea smells great, but for me I wasn’t a fan of the taste at all. This is why I love Lupicia though, like any good tea salon they have no problem with making you a cup to try before you buy anything, which I was definitely thankful for doing with this one (un)fortunately.
