Never lets me down, this one. Though I did realise tonight that it has a very earthy taste to it. Almost like a herbal pu’erh, without the tea guts. I don’t buy into a great deal of astrology but I do believe that as an earth sign, I particularly dig this. Or whatever. I don’t know.

Goodnight. <3

Ooh chald this is pretty darn good. I picked it up for a swap with ashleyelizabeth and figured it made sense to keep some for myself—boy am I glad I did! Freshly brewed this is very rich and chocolatey without tasting sweetened or fake at all. Yum.

After a wonderful thin tea ceremony at Untitled in MONA’s Red Queen exhibition this morning, I was in the mood for matcha! A warm day today meant a refreshing matcha milkshake. Man I love those things.

Preparation
175 °F / 79 °C 1 tsp 17 OZ / 500 ML

Eh. Perhaps my sample was getting a bit old or I didn’t steep for long enough, but I’m not getting a great deal out of this. Then again, I’m not the biggest fan of simple green teas. Ah well, sipdown #4 achieved, at least! I’ll try another steeping of this as the website does say up to three infusions are good.

ETA: NOPE CHANGED MY MIND why keep drinking something you’re not crazy about when there are 87 other teas to drink? Binned, rose. Sorry.

I’ve twice spliced a teaspoon of this with a teaspoon of T2 Apple Crumble today, in part because I thought they’d do well together and in part because that’s what I had with me at work…

I love how tart the Apple Crumble is. It’s not overwhelmingly sweet and I love that. A spoonful of sugar (or even a half tsp) would give this just enough sweetness for me to probably declare it right on as a tops combination, but as I was too lazy to do that, I can’t confirm yes or no.

Who knows… it’s still in my bag, I could get around to it next work day.

But I’ve got tomorrow off, so NOT THEN!

Sipdown #3, dedication to the sipdown cause is in the house.

And now I am learning the hard way about being an Adult with fine bone china. I thought I’d be fancy tonight and drink my (properly steeped) first flush from my lovely Old Country Roses teaware I was given as a farewell gift from my last workplace. (I got two trios, a sugar bowl, a milk jug and a biscuit tray all together, it was lovely and very thoughtful of them.)

One of my trios has been on the shelf and watered somewhat regularly for the last 18 months. The other trio has been up in my top cupboard. I pulled the cupboard trio down tonight—and probably none of you are surprised to hear that the cup has a great big crack in it. I am a little bit heartbroken! Oh dear. I immediately watered the rest of my set (it’s all fine) but that just indicates to me that this stuff needs to be used more often.

In any case, I did real good tonight.

#1: 90°C 1.5mins. Not quite long enough for my tastes—a very light and delicate cup.

#2: 90°C 2.5mins. From the same teapot as #1, left for an extra minute! Basically perfect for me. I still don’t have enough of a palate to be able to describe teas, but let me try. Light, grassy, a little nutty? Ah. Good. The T2 website says “fresh and floral”. Yep, I don’t know what I’m talking about. But I like this.

#3: 90°C 4.5mins. Second infusion. And the magic seems to be gone already. I may never get the bliss of cup #2 back…

2 tsp 15 OZ / 450 ML

You’d think with a first flush I’d be smart enough to not oversteep, right?

Wrong.

You’re wrong.

Trying this again tonight with a bit more vigilance than just drinkin’ at work.

Good luck tonight. ;-)

Translating my ratings, at a glance:

100 — CRITICAL OBSESSION LEVEL REACHED; CAN YOU MARRY TEA!?
95 — this must always be in my pantry. forever.
90 — excellent! you need to try this tea!
85 — very good! you should try this tea!
80-70 — I enjoyed this and will happily drink it again.
65-50 — Fine. Unremarkable.
45-35 — this wasn’t the worst drink ever but I was disappointed; it didn’t live up to my expectations at all.
30-0 — I didn’t enjoy this tea and that makes me sad.

MY TEASTORY:

Grandad got me started young, white (a LOT of white) Irish breakfast with two.

I never strayed far from that until the world of T2 Tea came to Brisbane some years ago, and now I don’t know what I’d do without a pantry full of tea options.

These days I prefer to drink my teas straight without sweetener (though I appreciate some black variations shine better with milk and/or a dash of honey/sugar). I also love a speedy iced tea (hot brewed then poured over ice), and my latest obsession is cold brewing (which doesn’t make a lot of sense, as Australia is headed into winter and I live in the coldest corner of the country, but oh well).

I’d love to make a bunch of tea friends on here, especially those who can talk Aussie teas with me. I’ve recently come back from a jaunt to North America and it was a real hoot to hit up DAVIDsTEA after reading so many reviews! I wish I’d had the chance to get to more stores… but I’m happy with what I got back past customs. See those teas and my local jams in my reviews.

I LOVE:
+ black teas
+ white teas
+ oolongs
+ flavoured versions of all three of the above
+ herbal infusions and fruit tisanes

NOT A FAN:
+ most green teas
+ LICORICE ROOT (my sworn enemy) and aniseed flavours
