513 Tasting Notes
Wow! This was amazing! I was intrigued by the ingredients and curious about the smell. Honestly, when I threw in the leaves I wasn’t sure what it was going to taste like brewed up. The steeped tea is fantastic! Heavy on the orange and the cinnamon with the other flavours helping to round things out. I could honestly drink this all evening, I am so glad we have a few ounces of this to work through!
I can not believe how much I am enjoying fruit based rooibos! I was so sure this was not going to be my thing, but it totally is. Like a fool, I spent half the day smelling this bag of tea before I caved and brewed myself a cup this evening. I spent hours admiring the smell of the leaves, and wondering why it was so familiar. Ditz that I can be, it took me until I was halfway through the cup to realize it smells like Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait (DT), yeah, that would probably be because of the strawberries…. My own ditziness aside, once I placed the smell and stopped trying to associate the two teas with each other (they really are apples and oranges in terms of comparisons) this is a really nice tea. Naturally sweet, very fruity and an easy tea to drink. The rooibos stayed nice and light so the fruit flavours really shone through. This is a tea I can see myself drinking when I am looking for something easy and appealing to throw in my cup! If you like strawberries and don’t mind rooibos, this tea might be worth a sip!
What to do stuck home on an afternoon other than work and drink much tea? Especially when my Tealish order arrives mid afternoon! This baby is very much a sister tea to David’s Forever Nuts (which we all know I adore). If I had to split hairs, I would say this one hits a but heavier on the apple and the spice notes, and is a less in your face straight nut flavour. But, honestly, I think I could brew them side by side and it would be hard to tell the difference. However, given that is is an amazing blend, is that really a bad thing?
Another entry in the me vs green tea saga. I have tried this sweetened and unsweetened, short steeped and long steeped. I like it but I keep thinking it would be better if I had just steeped it differently. Today I tried the long steep and unsweetened plan with great success. The apple was a lot less front and center (though it was definitely present). I like this tea more every time I drink it. I probably just need to stop thinking about it as my apple tea and start to mentally classify it as a green tea with spice and hints of apple.
I haven’t had a cup of this for a couple of weeks, so I dug it out of the tea cupboard this afternoon. I find this tea really shines with a good long steep time and a bit of sugar. I tossed in a light spoonful along with a couple lumps of rock sugar, covered it up, and just forgot about it for a bit. When I got back, I had a fantastic sweet, mapley cup of rooibos tea. As it cooled, the sweetness only came out even more. Super enjoyable and a blend I need to remember to enjoy more often!
I am shopping our tea cupboard right now for green teas. Like I said, I have a very finicky relationship with greens and, in the interests of better future tea selection, I am trying to narrow down what I like and what I dislike in terms of green tea. Tonight I tried a sweeter, nut based green tea. I really like this tea. The liquor is naturally sweet (thanks to the pineapple I am guessing). The walnut flavour shines really strong. It is a little bitter (I tend to find walnuts fairly bitter), but nothing too serious. This is a nice sturdy tea that doesn’t need to be babysat to ensure a good steep, just toss in a scoop of leaves and let it do its thing!
Filled my steeper with this today so I can use it to make iced tea. Two scoops of tea for a full steeper of water and I have a perfect strong blend to chill over ice. I love how strong the passion fruit features in the blend. I drink iced tea as an alternative to juice, so I am a sucker for the blends that remind me of the juice I am not drinking. This one is perfect, straight, uncomplicated passionfruit without all the juice sugars or artificial sweeteners.
Started my day off with this tea. This is one of those blends I try to be a little more careful with. It needs to steep long enough to get a good flavour, but I try not to oversteep it, because I am not super crazy about the base tea. It is not a bad, tasting tea, but it is certainly a strong tasting base and one that I feel works best in moderation. With a quick steep and a pinch of sugar, the chocolate and the orange shine though and this is a nice, indulgent morning cup to wake up with.
Me and greens have such a finicky relationship. Sometimes I crave them, I love my Movie Night and I liked Elf Help, but a lot of them time I find green tea way too strong of a base for my liking. This definitely falls into the way to strong category. I gave it a short steep (to try and sway the odds in my favour) and still nope. I get a hint of strawberry and a lot of green tea. Not a bad taste per se, but really not for me. I think I will stick closer to my herbals or my white blends for my fruit kick.
