drank Laoshan Black by Verdant Tea
888 tasting notes

I am spoiling myself today with awesome teas :D and holy hannah, is this ever AMAZING tonight. I probably shouldn’t be having caffeine this late, but meh, I’ll be up studying anyways. This is like so good today. I did it Western for 3 minutes, and I have this caramel soaked brownie in my cup. This is the most caramelly I have ever gotten Laoshan Black to taste. No idea what I did differently lol, but it is awesome! I actually feel like I’m eating dessert. Rich and excellent. Maybe another steep or two tonight as well. See previous notes!

How much leaf and how much water? Still on the fence about whether I like this tea and am trying it different ways.

MissLena

It was probably about a teaspoon and a half, maybe a little bit less, I did a heaping one with a bit extra, and as for water, approximately 10 oz. Boiling water as well, hopefully you can find a way that works for you! :)

El Monstro

Rachel – I had some tonight: 1 teaspoon and water around 190F in a half cup of water for 2-3 minutes, and it was so good I raised my score a little bit.

Rachel J

Thanks, guys! Will try some later.

TheTeaFairy

Love the new pic MissLena :-)

MissLena

Thanks TeaFairy! It’s my verdant yixing pot, i thought it was about time I have it as my pic :)

TheTeaFairy

Sil

MissLena

My profile pic Sil, i just changed it from one of myself to my yixing :)

And I actually use it for dark roasted oolongs TeaFairy, namely mi lan dancong and the shui xian teas from Verdant, i love how it pours :) next one i get will probably be dedicated to some type of puerh though!

Sil

weird. still showing your lovely picture for me :)

Terri HarpLady

Yeah, I’m still seeing the photo of you too…

TheTeaFairy

pretty sure it has to do with your computer cache, try to empty it, might work…

MissLena

Oh weird! It might be a steepster bug then, haha hopefully the new one shows up soon!

Sil

it’s likely what the teafairy mentioned – looked and saw it using my other half’s computer. I’m just not up for clearing my cache yet…too many things in there make my life easier atm lol

Terri HarpLady

AHA! I’m seeing your photo on each line you post, but at the top of the page I see the photo of your yixing! It’s adorable!

Alternatively, try ctrl+F5 for a hard refresh of the page without paying attention to the cache. :)

MissLena

Thanks Terri, i love it :D

And thanks for the page tip, angrbroda! I’ll try to remember that one :)

Bio

Hello all, I’m a newly graduated electrical engineer as of 2013 (read:NERD :D), who is a bit obsessed with tea! I discovered loose tea in 2011, DAVIDsTEA in 2012 and it took off from there. I really started drinking/enjoying tea because it’s excellent to take to class in the morning and because I can’t handle coffee! (unless it’s a really good cappuccino or latte haha)

I enjoy a variety of herbal, white, green, oolong and black teas. I have also tried a few pu’erhs and matcha I am a bit sensitive to caffeine, but I find that in moderation I can still indulge in black teas and matcha.

Oh, and I have a severe peanut allergy and try to avoid most other nuts, just to be safe. Limits my tea choices a bit, but that’s ok. However I recently tried almonds and found out I can eat them, so I have been trying a few teas with them in them.

MissLena’s rating system
(as of 04/19/13)

95+: Absolute favorite, will try to always have it in stock, and when I don’t I pine over it!
90-94: Awesome teas, will probably purchase again a few times
80-89: Very good tea, may restock at some point
70-79: happy to have tried and will gladly finish, but not restock
60-69: not horrible, but not the best, will finish if I have some though
50-59: not a favorite, probably will have a tough time finishing the bag
-50: yuck. I don’t want to have it ever again.

I am happy to say that my caffeine intolerance seems to be subsiding! This is allowing me to try a wider variety of teas :)
