Finishing up the last of this tonight! I really like the strength of this tea and it is just so smooth. Mmmm, this might have to go on my shopping list.

drank Gingerbread Man by Timothy's

This was a tea bag that my husband brought home from who knows where. It sounded like a pretty good flavor so I thought I would give it a try. Honestly, there is nothing about this tea that says gingerbread or chai in my opinion. It really, really reminds me of the rose tulsi I had a month ago. It is okay in flavor, but disappointing since I was expecting a chai type experience. I’ll probably finish the cup, but will definitely not look for this tea in the future. My rating is based on the fact that the tea tastes nothing like it should – it is perfectly drinkable though.

Thanks to TeaEqualsBliss for sharing some of her stash with me! This tea is really malty and very smooth. It is a “basic” black flavor overall, but comforting and interesting in that usually super malty teas like this have a bit of astringency – but not this one! I would definitely order some of this! It seems to have quite a caffeine kick to it also!

This tea has a very full flavor that is quite nutty for this first infusion. I’m looking forward to see what other flavors I get in coming steeps.

After having the Maple Sugar earlier, I remembered that I should still have some of this gem in my cupboard. And I did – hiding behind a couple of canisters! Mmm, this is a wonderful way to end the evening. I’m getting a flavor tonight that I want to describe as peppery, but I don’t think there is pepper in the blend. Maybe it is the walnuts which I do not eat but haven’t normally found offensive in this tea. (And, yes, I love actual carrot cake but I tend to pick out the nuts in my piece).

You’re not the only one who prefers walnut-less carrot cake. (I think black walnuts smell rotten - think it has something to do with having to help shell and smell pounds and pounds of them when I was growing up.)

I’m finishing up the last of my pouch tonight and I will miss this tea! I didn’t drink it very often, but when the moment was right – this tea really hit the spot.

I’m working on a pot of this tea currently and I am really liking this tea with milk/sugar. I think it is about time to move on to something stronger soon though.

Started my day with this again, like so many mornings lately. It was good!

I’m brewing this tea Grandpa style – which I’ve never tried – but am definitely enjoying it. I’m having a hard time describing the flavor of this tea. There is a definite light mineral taste with a hint of wood. I also taste some floral aspects which remind me of a greener oolong. But while I’m not sure about the flavors, I am really enjoying this tea prepared in this manner.

What is Grandpa style?

Well, I may not be using the correct term – but I mean it as putting tea leaves in the bottom of a cup, filling with water and then refilling as the cup gets low while keeping the leaves in the cup for the entire time. I thought it would become bitter, but I haven’t noticed that yet and I’m on my 3rd cup.

I guess that is the same principal as using a gaiwan. I just hadn’t heard it called that!

drank Lapsang Souchong by Culinary Teas

I FINALLY have a Lapsang back in my cuboard! I have definitely missed the smokiness. This version is serviceable but not as smoky as I was expecting based on the intense bacon/jerky aroma. I will gladly drink the rest of this package because it does nip the smoky craving, but will most likely return to Upton’s Lapsang Souchong Black Dragon after this package is gone.

The DJBooth

You can check out Dr.Tea Lapsang is 9.99 for a pound.

I want to try that one, too. I love Upton’s Baker Street Afternoon Blend.

Bio

I am a former coffee drinker turned tea lover.

Black tea is probably my favorite type of tea, but I rather enjoy most types… I’m even developing a taste for pu-erh.

Rating Scale:
0-10: This tea is either flavorless or just plain undrinkable. I will avoid these teas in the future.

11-20: I was only able to make it through a few sips before pouring the tea out.

21-30: I may have been able to make it through the first cup but the thought of having another has me cringing.

31-40: Teas in this range are not horrible, but nothing I would seek out in the future.

41-60: Would drink if offered, but would not purchase for myself.

61-70: Okay, nothing special

71-80: Enjoyable, but I have to be in the mood for these. Probably would purchase if I found a really great price.

81-90: Pretty good tea, will probably be one of my favorites.

91-95: These teas are really excellent. I wouldn’t necessarily run out and buy more of these (just because there are so many teas out there that I haven’t tried), but I would miss this tea.

96-99: Terrific, very impressive.

100: This special rating is reserved for teas that are absolutely perfect in my opinion. I will only give out a rating of 100 to one tea per category (Earl Grey, unflavored black, dessert tea, Irish Breakfast, etc). These are teas that I really want to have around.

Perfect Teas so Far:

Earl Grey: Saint Isaac’s Blend (Russian Earl Grey) from Upton

Dessert Tea: Marco Polo from Mariage Freres

Unflavored Black: Emperor’s Red from Premium Steap
