Had a take away hot cup of this while in buffalo this weekend to see what teavana was about before I saw it in Canada. One thing I hated was that’s had to wait for it to steep before I could take the cup. At David’s, they put it in a tea bag that way I can walk around with it while shopping in store or the mall in general. At teavana I had to choose a tea, pay and wait for the tea to steep while my family waited for at least 10 minutes while I could get a cup.

Back to the tea. Holy flavour! Crazy flavorful but I would say that not all of it was good. I can see where it would be better iced but hot wasn’t bad. So well see how it goes when they come to Canada. I was very surprised with how expensive the tea was and how big their tins were.

Had this iced and made the initial brew super strong. I felt like I should had added some cold water to it after, not just iced cubes, cause I found it better when it was watered down a bit. But still good and I will make it again.

drank Vanilla Oolong by DAVIDsTEA

I am in love with this tea. I love the taste of vanilla and it was perfect in this. The oolong leaves and the vanilla are paired well together. The vanilla is not overpowering, but I would have liked a little more taste. I steeped this tea twice and both were very good. I usually go with a 5 minute steep for oolong, but depending on what the leaves like I sometimes let it steep for longer until the leaves are completely un-folded.

I really enjoyed this tea. Even though I left it steeping for a lot longer than a probably should have (was watching x-men), it was still really good. I think because I left it wayyy too long it had a bit of a sour taste. But the blueberry flavour really comes out and is perfect morning tea. I will be getting a huge order of this when my bag finishes.

I love guava. But unfortunately I don’t really taste a strong guava flavour. I do like however the soft fruity taste. It’s not over powering and its not too tasteless. For me this is a comforting tea and I love it. I can only imagine how amazing it would be cold. I have finally gotten the hang of brewing green teas.

drank Birthday Cake by DAVIDsTEA

I love this one. The first steep was quite good. I could not get over the smell. Because I drank birthday cake on my birthday, I’m trying to remember. What I do remember is that it was good. The first steep was more rooibos then I would like. The second steep had more of a vanilla taste to it, giving it a more birthday cake taste. I haven’t been able to taste buttercream yet, but more actual cake. Like it’s coming right out of the oven. I am in love and so glad my sister got me this for my birthday.

drank Alpine Punch by DAVIDsTEA

I always forget how much I love Alpine Punch until I drink it. It is so flavourful, it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. I’m not much of a cinnamon person, but there is just enough to create this wonderful taste. I will keep this tea in my cupboard for as long as DAVIDs tea has it in stock. It is perfect for those Canadian winters or dreary rainfalls, like today.

drank Strawberry Fields by Teaopia

After Daniel Scott’s notes about the water, I tried it again finally. And I do like it better now. I can definitely taste strawberries and all the warm goodness. It is amazing iced as well. So I’ve moved my rating up now. It’s a little too light for me (I’m in a black phase), but still good.

Daniel Scott

Yay! Glad it worked out better.

I am on a black tea kick so this tea was right up my alley. I love cream of Earl Grey, so I thought I would try something different. I liked the taste of fruit in it because it doesn’t over power the taste of the tea, but it adds a nice touch. For me, this isn’t an everyday kind of tea, but something I have to be in the mood for.

Unfortunately I found this tea to be very tart. I could not taste the strawberries at all. I tried two different steeps, but found both to be disappointing since this tea seems to be very popular. I will be returning this for something else.

Daniel Scott

Wow, really? Huh, I adore this one. Is it very tart…can’t recall now! Curious to know your steeping time/temp for this?

Tea@Disney

With my kettle, I can’t control for temperature. The first steep was after boiling (I know a crime, but I was running late this morning) and I gave it five minutes (I like my tea strong). The second steep, the water was boiled, but I let it cool down to a manageable temperature and still let it steep five minutes.

Any thoughts to make it better?

Daniel Scott

Whoa, no wonder! Nooo to just boiled water. You probably shouldn’t steep a white at hotter than 80-85 degrees C. If you don’t have a tea thermometer, try putting some water in a pan on the stove. Take it off the heat JUST as you start to see bubbles forming – that should be about 80 degrees.

And 5 minutes is way too long for this one – I’d maybe start at 1.5 or 2.

Black teas I tend to like strong and I grew up leaving the bag in for 5 minutes or more. But I’ve found loose leaf – especially more delicate teas – to be stuff you need to experiment with. I remember now…when I first tried this one I started with too LOW a temp because I was concerned about scorching the leaves (68 degrees or so), so I let it sit in the water longer to compensate and make it “stronger.” It was naaaasty.

Tea@Disney

Thank you for the advice! I would have never thought about heating water in the pan.

Daniel Scott

Haha, I’m stuck doing nothing but since our kettle broke. It was a sad moment, but in the time since I’ve realized how many temps I was screwing up when my only two options were boiling (kettle) or 68 degrees (hot water dispenser).

Tea@Disney

Well at least some good tea will come out of it!
