79 Tasting Notes

Pom Tango from DAVIDsTEA
100

Bought 100g of this immediately after a in store sample, but reading the ingredients I knew I was going to get it before I even walked into the store. Gotta say the first thing I noticed about this blend, nothing seems to float up in my infuser?!

I really do enjoy fruity teas, this one is a home run for me, it really reminds me of Paradise Found; however with improvements. Paradise Found is great and I have it in my stash, but I find it is a bit heavy on the hibiscus making it slightly tart, Pom Tango corrects that and replaces the tart with sweet.

Dry this blend has a nice aroma of Mango and Pomegranate and even the aroma smells sweet. There isn’t a whole bunch of color to make this an interesting tea to look at in the tin; however it does have big chunks of mango that let you know this tea means business. I should mention that with tea’s like this with big chunks of fruits and stuff I try to measure out a nice scoop of tea with out big pieces simply so I know I am getting a good helping of tea leaves in the mix.

Steeped this blend has a mango heavy aroma with a pomegranate undertone that is subtle yet present. The taste is a soft mango and pomegranate taste and is really packed full of flavor, this is actually one of the few teas I do not put any sugar in, simply because it is sweet enough and I think sugar would push it over the edge too much. Certainly one that has to be tried iced as well, something tells me it will be better iced.

Copabanana from DAVIDsTEA
82

So all morning I have had Bobby Bloom’s Montego Bay stuck in my head, not really sure why seeing as that is a 70s song and just a bit before my time, but hey I guess it could be worse like a jimmy buffet song or something.

Again I purchased this herbal solely based on the dry smell, it seemed like it would brew a tasty cup; however after reading a few of the reviews on here I was scared I might be left with a slightly banana flavored cup of warm water. Thankfully though this was not the case.

Dry this blend has a powerful fruit smell that is heavily encompassed with Banana, there are big chunks of everything, its bright and colorful and there is huge banana chips in it…wait a minute are you sure this is tea and not something you mix with yogurt?

The brewed beverage has a nice banana taste to it, with just a touch of sugar added (less than 1tsp) it gave this blend the perfect little sweet kick that it needed, otherwise I could see where people are getting the watered down banana flavor from. Overall it isn’t a terrible blend, it does lack a bit in the flavor department for all the stuff in the blend but otherwise it is pretty tasty. Not sure if I would rush out to get more of this blend though, need to have a couple more cups before I can decide.

Honeydew Mate from DAVIDsTEA
100

Smells like a nice dew filled sunny spring morning…in a cup!

The aroma of this tea was enough to sell me on it, I am a huge melon fan, ha some innuendo there! But seriously cantaloupe, honeydew and watermelon, I freaking love them all so immediately after smelling this one I had to try it, now I am just upset I didn’t buy more.

Dry this tea has an amazing Honeydew smell, not only does it have the natural flavoring but it has actual melon pieces in it. There is a slight earthy smell from the rooibos and mate, but it is easily overpowered by the honeydew, which is fine by me.

I have been doing this one at a 5 minute steep time, it seems to be a happy medium for a great cup of tea, plus that gives it ample time to infuse the air in the room with a nice honeydew aroma. Being a mate and rooibos base it doesn’t have the full energy kick as a cup of a straight mate based tea would, I was drinking this last night at 11pm and I had no issues sleeping. From what I can tell this tea would be utterly amazing iced.

Super Chocolate (organic) from DAVIDsTEA
85

This was the second new tea that I received yesterday, the others were just refills for tea’s that I already have, including some more mom’s apple pie before I can’t get it again!

Dry this tea has a chocolatey cinnamon aroma to it, I really like the dry smell as the chocolate aroma is that of a dark healthy chocolate not that enticing but horrible for you milk chocolate! Steeping the tea brought out more of the cinnamon aroma for me, then again cinnamon is powerful. The chocolate aroma was also very present but a bit softer.

Now we do a complete flip flop! Drinking the tea there is a very chocolatey taste to it, but that cinnamon is still there and reminds your tastebuds they are still alive. I figured for how much of a dry smell the cinnamon had it might have been a little overpowering but this wasn’t true. This one actually reminds me of chocolate chili chai in terms of flavor now that I think about it, minus the slight heat from the chili’s.

I had been really wanting to try this blend forever, but it isn’t one they keep in any of the local stores, and as far as I know it isn’t restricted to online only; however that was the only option for me to purchase it. Now that I have a 100g I am certainly going to spend some time enjoying this tea.

Toasted Marshmallow from DAVIDsTEA
74

So is it just me or do other people feel like its Christmas when they get a bunch of new teas? Every time I get a few different tea’s I haven’t had the privileged to try yet it makes my day much better. I had been eying up Toasted Marshmallow for quite some time now and I finally bit the bullet and got it.

Dry the leaves have a pleasant allspice aroma, yes those are allspice pieces not chocolate chips, there is no chocolate in this tea! There is also that classic freeze dried mini marshmallow smell. If it had a bit of a Graham cracker aroma I could almost believe it was a s’more. Steeped it has a cinnamon smell to it, the brew is slightly cloudy from the mini marshmallows.

The taste is very sweet, you could compare it roughly with a marshmallow, I have absolutely no toasted flavor. I mean I would spend weeks in the summer camping going through countless bags of marshmallows so I could easily call myself a master of the toasted marshmallow, and while I think this is a delicious tea it is not driving home the toasted marshmallow feel.

This one would certainly make a very delicious latte, I added my normal amount of sugar and to be honest I think it would have been fine without any sugar which is not normal for me! I think I may try and add a pinch of Lapsang Souchong next time I brew a cup, it might give it that smokey flavor to add a bit more to the toasted feel.

Funny enough that even though the flavor wasn’t quite what I was expecting I did gulp down this cup of tea faster then normal, I don’t know if it is a common side effect, but drinking this tea did make me want a s’more…you have been warned!

Cola Matcha from Red Leaf Tea
89

This was another sample from Chuckie that I tried last night, but didn’t write a review on. I made the mistake of trying this one as a latte and while it tasted good the milk did not mix to well with the Cola flavoring. I am going to try this one again as a straight brew to really do it some justice. But I can certainly say that I have been enjoying trying out Red Leaf’s matcha, the flavors are unique and pretty bang on. Really looking forward to the Watermelon matcha, heck it might be a matcha night with dinner today!

Check back later today or tomorrow for an update on this review!

Cantaloupe & Cream from Butiki Teas
100

So this is Sample #3 from Chuckie, as you can see I am having an uneventful day of work that has been pretty much compromised of doing some paperwork and drinking lots of tea, relaxing but slightly boring, so why not spice things up by trying a bunch of new teas.

This is the first tea I have had from Butiki and I must say wow, I could tell from the dry aroma that this was going to be a flavorful tea, and it certainly is. Dry it has an amazingly creamy cantaloupe smell very pronounced by not artificial or overpowering.

Steeped the aroma of the tea is cut back slightly, but in all honesty it is a very slight amount. It is an extremely clear brew with a slight golden color to it. It has an amazing cantaloupe smell to it that reminds me of a brunch buffet or something with a huge platter of fruits.

I certainly approve of this tea, I look forward to trying some of their other blends. For me this would be a great tea to have with breakfast, and as with the previous Teavana tea I reviewed it would probably be pretty good iced.

Edit: Had to increase my rating on this, tasted great warm. Got caught up doing some work and it cooled off and I think it tastes even better! scored 85, totally raising it to 100. Probably be one of the first I order from Butiki.

Caribbean Calypso Mate from Teavana
93

Sample #2 from Chuckie, I really enjoy fruity teas, and I certainly enjoy mates. By all logic I should absolutely enjoy this tea…right?

This tea has an overwhelming fruit smell, but lucky it is not powerful or annoying it is a pleasant aroma. Steeping the tea fills the room with the aroma, make it a nice calming tea. Plus I can confirm there is enough mate in a 12oz mug to give you a nice little pick me up. I drank a couple of this first thing this morning cause I was so tired I felt like a zombie.

The final brew is fairly clear with a very light coloring to it, I can easily see to the bottom of my mug that has a crazy orange inside! This is the third Teavana tea I have had and the first to actually have a very present flavor to it when brewed to their directions.

It has a very present lemon flavor, most likely due to the amount of lemongrass in it which is ok, I like lemon. I brewed this as a hot cup of tea and it was really delicious; however I have a feeling this tea would be utterly amazing iced, it has a very juice like taste to it, for me the mate was not present at all.

Certainly a nice tea, definitely one I would actually purchase from Teavana. My biggest downside with them is I haven’t found any of their teas that just scream out at me.

Prosperous Peach Oolong from Teavana
61

This is the first sample I will be trying courtesy of Chuckieroy, it is a very peachy smelling tea, which my nose approves of hopefully my taste buds share the same sentiment after it has steeped.

Steeped it takes on more of an Oolong aroma, can definitely smell the tea base in this one. On a side note Iron Goddess of Mercy Oolong is a way better name for Tie Guan Yin tea, I mean that is what it translates to and it would help companies from using different spelling!

Initial taste is a very soft peach flavor followed by a fairly noticeable Oolong aftertaste. The peach flavor as other people have mentioned is pretty light, I do taste it but its not overly powerful, it could use a little more peach in my opinion.

This is the second tea I have had from Teavana, the other one I found to be very light flavor wise as well, but not being a big Teavana guru it could just be that the focus more on the tea base than the flavor.

Overall its certainly not a bad cup of tea, but leaves me craving a nice peachy cup of Davids Long Life Oolong, for peach Oolongs it is pretty much my benchmark tea.

Creme Caramel Rooibos from DAVIDsTEA
93

So personally I am not super huge on Rooibos or Herbal blends, I will admit I have a problem…I am addicted to trace amounts of caffeine! So it is really hard for me to brew up a cup of decaffeinated anything, unless of course it is Mint Chocolate Rooibos! But I felt a need to get more decaf tea’s as I think late night tea drinking may be contributing to my recent poor sleeping. Enter the Rooibos!

My collection of Rooibos is as follows Oh Canada!, Creme Brulee, Mint Chocolate and now Creme Caramel. I haven’t even tried Creme Brulee yet and I have had it for almost two months now I think! Goes to show you my Rooibos consumption is low, my tin of Oh Canada is 6 months old and almost still full! So as an impulse buy I added Creme Caramel to the collection, albeit for now only a small 26g ‘sampler’ bag as I call them

Dry it has an amazingly sweet caramel smell, there is little bits of caramel amongst the red rooibos pieces. I don’t get that cheap candy caramel smell from it either this smells like creamy smooth velvety caramel. Once steeped it takes on a nice dark redish rooibos color and it still has that exact same caramel aroma, smell like it should be a calorie laden dessert!

It has that velvety smooth caramel taste that I was smelling, and is quite sweet. The flavor lingers around for a while, which is nice seeing it is such a sweet and pleasing taste I don’t think anyone can complain. Might even go good with a splash of milk, oh better yet it would probably make an extremely delicious latte. Certainly one I will probably grab a larger supply of for the practically non existent decaf collection of mine.

La La Lemon (organic) from DAVIDsTEA
54

Picked up some of this last night due to how much I have been enjoying other lemon themed teas from Davids. I tried it first with my dinner as a flash iced tea, I used 5 tsp of tea in about 8oz of water and it was honestly some of the weakest tasting iced tea I have had, especially for how lemony this tea smells. Being the optimist I am I tried it again later in the night as a warm cup of tea, and while I could taste the lemon in it better then I could with it iced. It was similar to what other people have said, its almost like cough drop lemon. Not sure if this is one that I will be grabbing again it wasn’t horrible but not really what I was expecting either.

Berry Good (organic) from DAVIDsTEA
100

Berry Amazing!

So naturally when DAVIDsTEA says they have new teas coming out I generally make sure I get in within a day or two to smell and/or purchase some. I was given an early hint that there was two incoming pu’erh’s, yep not one but two! Then the info was released on their web page and I got an idea of what I was in for.

Berry Good and Aloha Pu’erh, funny enough I immediately figured I would like Aloha Pu’erh and was skeptical on Berry Good as I already have a bunch of strawberry teas. So I ventured into the store and immediately put the two to the smell test, first up was Berry Good. Immediately I was reminded of berry jello powder, wow this smells incredible I though, very noticeable blackberry presence. Then I smelled the Aloha Pu’erh, and I had one of those, what the eff is this moments. The Pu’erh used in that blend made it smell like fish to me, it failed the smell test horribly so subsequently it wont be in my cupboard. Now I figured DT released two teas this time because they knew some people wouldnt like the Pu’erh base in one, well at least that is what I am telling myself! Was quite a shame because the ingredients in Aloha Pu’erh make it sound wonderful.

Back to the Berry Goodness, the main reason I should be typing this! It brews up into a dark tea, that retains the berry aroma. Again still the Blackberry is the most prevalent aroma. The taste of blackberry is strong with this one and I freaking love it! I enjoy berry tea’s very much, but have been having a hard time finding a variety of good ones, for the most part they are heavily strawberry based.

So far I picked this tea up at 5pm PST yesterday night it is going on 11am PST as I type this and I have had 5 delicious cups. I bought 100g like I normally would, its a very light tea so it fills the tin completely, and I am already thinking about grabbing another tin for backup since I know I am going to plow through this fast.

German Rock Sugar from Teavana
100

First off I would love to know how Teavanna has come to 25 calories per teaspoon of German Rock Sugar. Seeing as all it is is Beet Sugar, during war times it was hard for Germany to get sugar refined from sugar cane so they started refining it from the roots of the sugar beet. Unless Teavanna is processing this sugar with something else it will have the exact same nutritional values and glycemic values as cane sugar, its the same with raw sugar as well, it is all pure sucrose and that is a chemical compound that does not change naturally. That said Teavanna could very well be processing this rock sugar adding more calories, to it and if that is the case I would like to be informed so I can purchase it elsewhere.

The benefit of using beet sugar is to add sweetness to your tea without altering the flavor of the tea itself. I believe there is a complete lack of molasses that you would normally have from cane sugar, or if it does have molasses in it, it won’t be the same type as cane sugar seeing as they are from different plants. Which brings me to a plausible but most likely impossible fact to prove. Beets are extremely high in antioxidants, leading some people to claim beet sugar (rock sugar) also contains similar antioxidant properties.

What I can confirm is that Beet Sugar will softly sweeten your tea without really affecting the flavor of it. I used to be a huge raw sugar fan until my Omi found out and nearly BEET the crap out of me! She insisted I try German Rock Sugar in my tea and well I am glad I listened to the 69 year old German lady, because she knew what she was talking about.

I am sure there are plenty of places that you can obtain this sugar, Teavanna does not have a special supply of magical sugar or anything; however for me it was worth the extra couple bucks for the convenience of Teavanna being close to home. I paid $9 and change for a pound of this from teavanna I was paying $6 for 450g of raw sugar from the grocery store.

Long story short: A little pricey, but certainly worth the extra couple of dollars in my opinion. But hey try it out for yourself!

Smaug Tea from 52teas
100

Second to last sample I have from Alphakitty, and I am really sad to be drinking the last of this awesome blend. For those that actually know me my favorite author in the world is JRR Tolkien so as soon as I saw Smaug Tea I knew immediately I had to try it.

Dry this tea has a strong cinnamon smell to it, which is great I thoroughly enjoy a cinnamon-y tea. AT first I was slightly concerned the cinnamon might be overpowering based on the dry smell, but I was completely wrong. Once brewed it still retained the cinnamon aroma however it was quite subdued and mellow now, and also accompanied by a slight smoky aroma I am guessing from the Lapsang.

The final brew is a clear aroma with a slight coloring in it, my cup at work is not friendly with colors seeing as it is bright orange inside of it! But who cares, when the tea tastes this good you are not looking at it. The easiest way for me to describe this taste is like cinnamon hearts except not cheap candy cinnamon, which really makes the difference.

Long story short if you get the chance to try this tea, then do it. If 52 teas reads this then please make this blend again so I can attempt to secure some for myself! I don’t think I have a cinnamon heavy tea that I enjoy more then this blend now.

Peanut Butter Pie Matcha from Red Leaf Tea
94

Still going through samples from Alphakitty, this was the second of two Matcha samples I got. I haven’t had the chance to try much matcha let alone any flavored matcha, so it was a great experience for me. I can certainly say that I am not a huge fan of matcha made straight, but so far as latte’s they are out of this world.

This matcha certainly has a peanut butter taste to it, it is almost perfectly balanced between matcha base and flavoring, but from what I have seen of Red Leaf you can custom order how “flavorful” your matcha will be, this will be fun for me!

I had a sample of a green base matcha and a black base matcha, and I must say the green base was not as pronounced as the black base. But in the long run both were delicious and have solidified my place with matcha. Thanks again for the swap Alphakitty, I got Smaug Tea and Oatmeal cookie left. But have been introduced to some very delicious courtesy of you!

Earl Grey Cheesecake from 52teas
99

Ok here it goes, this is one I was dying to try, well it was tied between this one and pancake breakfast! I am not only a huge fan of Earl Gray, but I am a huge fan of cheesecake as well, so this one should be a home run.

Dry this tea has a similar aroma to cream of earl that I get from Davids, its a very creamy smelling EG but 52teas EG Cheesecake also had a slightly floral aroma on my nose. The steeped tea is very dark in color and has a very sweet smelling EG aroma to it, very pleasing as I sit here staring at piles of paperwork before the weekend.

Initial taste I could certainly taste the bergamot immediately; however it faded quickly to a sweet creamy aftertaste. It’s not super cheese cake flavored which is nice, but you do get that taste from it, or at least I do. I really like the Earl Gray base to this though it has the perfect balance of tea and bergamot.

Again thanks to Alphakitty for this sample in our recent trade, it was hard to pick out ones to try from her large collection but so far I have been hitting home runs. Unfortunately this one looses a mark or two for missing out a bit on the cheesecake flavor, if it had of been slightly more pronounced this tea would be impossible for me to stop drinking. Been contemplating getting a 52teas club membership and if the majority of blends are like this one I cant see why I am putting it off.

Cookies & Cream Matcha - Black Matcha from Red Leaf Tea
92

Another one I got from a swap with Alphakitty. I have been really interested in breaking into matcha now that I have pretty much conqured all the other various teas. So what a better way to do it then sampling some Red Leaf Matcha to find out if it is for me.

Dry I don’t really get a cookies and cream aroma from it, but it does smell sweet. It is very dark and powdered, kind of reminds me of hot chocolate powder. It made up a nice dark frothy cup of matcha, it tasted really good not exactly what I expected but I still like it, you can certainly taste the tea, but its obvious why, its the whole leaf!

After a few sips of the straight matcha I convinced myself I had to try it as a latte so I grabbed one of my nice Japanese latte mug and whipped it up into an extremely delicious latte. Honestly I could get quite used to matcha lattes. I certainly know this one will be one of the first I order from Red Leaf.

Dorian Grey Blend Loose Leaf Tea from English Tea Store
100

Thanks to Alphakitty for a ‘surprise’ sample of this blend in a recent swap we did. It was one that she snuck in there on my and I think I might be quite happy she did.

So I guess, Dorian Grey is Earl Grey’s second cousin twice removed from his mothers side or something like that!

Dry it has a very appealing and exotic fruity/floral smell with a touch of creaminess to it. I immediately liked the smell of it so I scooped out a portion to brew for after I had finished my cup of freshly brewed Citron Oolong. I was so happy about a totally new tea I almost wanted to pour my cup out and brew it immediately, but that would have been sacrilegious!

Steeped it takes on your classic Earl Gray aroma, but with a bit more…I still get a faint presence of that fruity/floral aroma and the creaminess seems a touch more pronounced. It brews into a nice clean and clear dark brown tea.

I really enjoy the flavor profile of this tea, but nowhere in the mix do I taste caramel which is a slight shame I was really looking forward to that, I naturally always add a tsp of sugar into my tea’s this one seems overly sweet now making me think it probably didn’t need any, which is honestly rare for me.

Overall this tea is awesome, only problem is now I have yet another company to look at for tea’s. I am going to have to liquidate some of the DAVIDsTEA I have in order to make room! This is certainly one of the best or possibly the best black tea based Earl Gray I have has so far, I will have to compare against Cream of Earl Gray from Davids which has been holding my #1 spot for Black Earl Gray’s.

Tung Ting Vietnam from DAVIDsTEA
83

Tung Ting, to be honest I think this is an awesome name for a tea, not sure why but it just rolls off your tongue. I mean it’s not quite as awesome as Iron Goddess of Mercy Oolong (Tie Kwan Yin), but it’s close! Tung Ting Vietnam is straight Oolong # 2 from DAVIDsTEA and the following will be my accounts of my experience while drinking it.

I just pulled the infuser out of my perfect cup and I have to say “HOLY CRAP THE LEAVES ARE GINORMOUS!” I mean I have been drinking a bunch of oolongs lately so the unfurling leaves are not a new sight but this tea is full leaves rolled into balls smaller than peas, very artsy!

The initial taste on this one is slightly sweet and slightly piney but not an aggressive flavor at all, I would say it is perfectly balanced against the natural oolong flavor. The after taste is quiet brief and mild, I can’t describe the exact flavor but it doesn’t linger and it isn’t powerful.

Overall for a straight tea I don’t mind it all that much, it has a palatable flavor a good caffeine kick and is relatively impossible to mess up steeping! This might actually be a straight oolong that I keep in the cupboard on a regular basis.

High Mountain Oolong from DAVIDsTEA
74

Slowly I am going to start putting up reviews of the straight Oolongs I have picked up from DavidsTea, I really haven’t been a huge drinker of straight tea’s but I figured it doesn’t hurt or cost much to branch out and try some new things. So here I am starting with what they claim to be the cream of the crop for Oolong, High Mountain Oolong. I don’t know how the others will follow but I also have Tung Ting, Tie Kwan Yin and Quangzhou Milk. I think I might like the last one the most by the dry aroma.

Dry it has your typical straight tea smell, slightly vegetal, but very smooth and crisp. It kind of reminds me of a dew filled morning out camping or something. The steeped aroma brings out more of the vegetal aroma of the tea, easiest way for me to put it into words is bland and boring!

The initial taste is a little vegetal, quite pronounced but dies off really quickly leaving a soft after taste. I am not really sure how to describe the after taste, it kind of reminds me of the taste of Sencha Ashikubo but not as powerful. It’s not pleasing or displeasing really, but I did expect a bit more of a wow factor from a tea that costs $10/25grams.

Now that I am done beating the living crap out of this poor tea I should note that other than being a little over priced for what your getting it is a fairly decent tea. It’s certainly harder to swallow the cost of the tea then the tea itself, har har har. It could possibly come to life a bit more when steeped the Gung Fu way; however I can’t be bothered to waste that much time at work, I would probably get fired!

I will come back at a later date and add a Gung Fu tasting as well.

Coco Chai Rooibos from DAVIDsTEA
69

Finally getting to the last couple of little sample packs I have kicking around, some where teas I already had and other were ones I hadn’t even heard of yet from DT. This round it is Coco Chai Rooibos, and to be honest the dry aroma of this tea almost put me off of it because it was so pungent and floral the first thing that came to my mind was potpourri.

The taste is a little bit all over the place, I get the cinnamon nicely but there is a multitude of other flavors that I really can’t pin down to anything specific. I will say that even though there is a bunch of stuff going on flavor wise it is certainly a tasty tea. That being said I don’t think it is one I will go out of my way to purchase, as a few people here have said it would probably make a good latte but my sample was only enough for one cup so I wont get a chance to try that out.

Citron Oolong from DAVIDsTEA
88

They call me mellow yellow…that’s right

This was another oolong that I have been passing by for the last couple of months, never really even bothering to give it a thought, I know how rude and unappreciative of me! In a bid to cross them all off my list I took a whiff of this oolong the other day and immediately had to have some. Dry it has a nice pleasing smooth citrus aroma, very lemony but not overpowering or fake.

The final brew is fairly light in color, and retains its delicious citrus aroma, after the first sip I was hooked. I really like citrus tea’s but most are generally fairly powerful; however Citron Oolong was the exact opposite the citrus profile for this tea is tame and mellow, very relaxing in fact. I was slightly taken off guard by this tea, I knew it would be citrusy but I never figured it would be such a wonderfully soft flavor.

Ginseng Oolong from DAVIDsTEA
82

Funky, weird, tasty…

I’ve been on an Oolong streak for the last week, I have almost knocked off all the oolong’s DAVIDsTEA has to offer, many tasting notes will be coming in the next couple days, especially the straight oolongs.

I kept getting told I had to try this tea, it is one of the favorites of a couple of the girls that work in my local Davids store. At first I was put off of it mistakenly thinking it was ginger not ginseng, after clearing that up I considered it was worth a try.

I found this to be a unique tea not only in appearance but in flavor as well. The ginseng coated oolong balls look more like something you would find at the bottom of an improperly cleaned aquarium, funny enough the smell is not too far off to boot! Steeping the tea brings out more of the ginseng sweetness in the aroma.

The final brew is quite dark compared to a lot of the other oolongs I have been drinking, I believe the only one really comparable so far in color for me has been high mountain oolong. But between various steeping times and Gung Fu methods its been a wide variety of colors and flavors from the oolongs.

I don’t quite know where I sit with this tea, I bought a 26 gram sample and have gone through about half of it. I enjoy the taste but I am still not sure if it is one I would keep in my stash or not, it’s got the rest of this sample to wow me otherwise it might get removed.

Prairie Berry from DAVIDsTEA
100

Well I know absolutely nothing about Saskatoon or Saskatchewan in general, I have only been through it once in a vehicle and I slept and the other times I have flown over it so I am generally too busy watching a movie and enjoying a utterly horrible in-flight meal!

I got this tea as a sampler pack from DAVIDsTEA with an online order and I decided to grab this and a coco chai rooibos pack as I was rushing out the door to work this morning. I brewed Prairie Berry first, naturally because it has caffeine content to it and that is something we can all use on a Monday morning back to work.

As soon as I opened the package I knew I was most likely going to enjoy this tea, up to this point I had yet to try or even smell this one and it sits on the tea wall at my local store. It had a nice jam aroma to it similar to Blueberry Jam; however this smelled more sweet. Steeping the tea brought out a sweet smelling berry aroma that had me drooling waiting for it to be ready to drink.

The final brew is quite dark and sweet smelling, the taste is utterly awesome I don’t know why I have passed by this one so many times, I mean I freaking LOVE blueberry jam and while this is similar it has a totally different flavor profile. I wish I had of grabbed some of this one instead of the copious other oolongs I grabbed from Davids, basically the entire collection minus Prairie Berry and Pineapple Oolong. This will certainly be a main one I keep, I dare say I may like it more then Long Life Oolong :O

Profile

Bio

Tea, Earl Grey, Hot!

I will attempt to taste and comment on each and every blend offered from DAVIDsTEA and of course anything else that comes across my path.

I only drink tea brewed from loose leaf tea, and tend to sweeten my teas with a teaspoon of raw cane sugar per 8oz of tea and consider a cup either 12oz or 16oz depending on what mug I want to use.

I generally do not put milk in my tea’s; however sometimes I may make a ‘London Fog’ style drink or add milk to herbal infusions to add a bit more creaminess to it.

And I generally enjoy drink a nice hot tea while relaxing listening to some Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd.

I am quite liberal with my Tea ratings, I take the smiley face to heart for judging. If I really like it then it will score a high grade regardless of the brand or if I can keep it in my cupboard or not. But to break it down further a bit more check this out:

0-10 – Wouldn’t drink it if I was dying.
10-20 – Are you sure this didn’t come out of a bag?
20-50 – There is hope for this tea…somewhere but not here
50-60 – Drinkable, but not stockable
60-70 – Ok, were onto something here!
70-80 – Wow you gotta try this
80+ I freaking love it, where can I buy it?
