1520 Tasting Notes
I received my package from Butiki Teas today and immediately ripped it open! Stacey sent me a sample of this blueberry purple tea. I heated up a pot of water and opened this small bag for a whiff. my my my! It smells absolutely delicious. It smells like blueberry flavored candy! I love the small bits of blue cornflowers. The leaves were small… and resembled something like the insides of a cardamom pod. They were black with bits of blue cornflowers. I brewed this up using a tetsubin and poured it into my small white cups. One very small one for tasting, one slightly larger one for my husband, and the other one for me.
The liquor appeared to be a medium brown color with a slight tinge of blue/purple. It smells just like the leaves but a little less intense. It tastes so GOOD! I noticed some floral tones but mostly blueberries and slight sweetness. There was no bitterness to it. I love this flavor. It is so smooth. It is like a blueberry cream or a blueberry yogurt without the sourness to it. Wow. I am in love with this tea. At the end of my sip, I detected a slight astringency in the back of my tongue. It wasn’t anything offensive though.
Another great tea from Butiki Teas! I haven’t been disappointed!
I paid attention to my steep times this time around. I was pleasantly surprised. This turned out to be a nice tea. There is still a tinge of astringency but I believe its due to the matcha that is infused in this tea. Good basic tea overall.
Yesterday, my friends and I gathered for a holiday party/movie night. I made dumplings and this chai tea! I used about 3.5 tablespoons and about 4 cups of water and heated it over the stove. After 10-15 minutes, I added about 2-3 cups of lactose-free milk and reduced it to a simmer. I also put a tablespoon of brown sugar to the mix. It was DELICIOUS! I was happy that everyone loved it and even got seconds. :) It was a perfect amount of spices. I was worried that it might have needed more milk, but it was fine.
This blend is so convenient, especially for those times when I don’t have enough time to crush my own spices, like yesterday. :)
I can’t resist tea! Today we went to eat at our favorite kaiten sushi restaurant for lunch and had some green tea (I presume it is genmaicha). On our way back home, it started to snow a little bit. As soon as I got settled in, I decided to heat up some water and make some tea that will warm me up inside.
Damn Fine Holiday Blend was just right. I love this tea either straight or with some additives. Today called for some lactose-free milk and brown sugar. I love the tinge of smokiness and the nutty taste this exudes. With the milk and sugar, I almost felt like I was biting into a cookie. This is so delicious. I love this tea. I see the bottom of the tin. A part of me feels a strange sense of accomplishment since I have a ton of teas waiting to be opened and tried, and another part of me feels sad since I’ll miss this tea.
With Andrew & Dunham’s other tea tins, I just clean with a slightly damp paper towel and wipe dry. I feel like this may need more cleaning since its a larger tin. I am not sure what I would put in it too. :) Anyhow, I’m having a good day! woo!!
