53 Tasting Notes

Root Beer (Iced Tea Series) from 52teas
74

Love this. I really like root beer but try to avoid soft drinks ( although not always successfully as I have a thing for diet pepsi).

This is a fab way todo root beer without the fizz. Nice and cool, refreshing, will happily sip down the gallon. I’d like a better base ( yes, I’m a tea snob), but other than that, tis is a winner!

Earliest Green Tea of the Year - Frosty Spring Yunnan Roast Green from Life In Teacup
78

Love this. We drank this coming home from the mall, steeped in two to-go cups of hot water that the Marche kindly gave us with our baguette. Not very civilized, but far better than what was offered in the mall, even if lacking in style of serving vessel!

My husband thought it was very seaweedy. I found this fresh, and lovely. The liqour is a light grey green, the smell fresh, spring like and green.

Kiwi Lime Ginger from Tea Forte
33

I might have a migraine – things smell to strong when I do. This smells like cleaner to me…and I could only manage a sip with that image in my head. It may be better iced…Or maybe I’m just picky. I’m not terribly fond of infusions as it is.

Hot Buttered Banana Bread from 52teas
100

Life is good again. My three pouches of the reblend came yesterday. Heaven and joy!

I had this hot while making pancakes and cold while making lunch. It was blissful both ways. Banana with a hint of nuts, and a great nilgiri base. This tea is officially my all time favorite.

White Chocolate Grasshopper Honeybush from 52teas
73

Very nice. I’ve learned that I don’t love tisanes, but this one is good as they go. Really lovely, sweet, just minty enough goodness. I tried it hot and cold, and definitely prefer it hot. What a nice variation on mint and honey bush, all rolled into one!

Blueberry Amore from Teaopia
42

Meh. Drank a cup today. Hate to waste tea. But really. Anyone want to swap?

Imperial Golden Monkey ZP85 from Upton Tea Imports
86

Vry nice iced with a touch of sugar. Honey notes come out nicely.

Keemun (Qimen) Black Tea Superior Grade from Life In Teacup
71

I sipped down the last of this today. I enjoyed the slightly smokey notes, its bold “I’m here” presence, and its warming cup. The afternoon went by more quickly accompanied by this pleasing keen. The dry leaves had a particularly wirey appearance.

Pre-GuYu Huang Shan Mao Feng from Life In Teacup
88

Oh lovely tea I could write poems about you. Beautiful to the eye, nose and mouth. Refreshing and sweet, welcoming spring. I have one more sample left. I’m saving you for a special day.

Peanut Butter Toast from 52teas
71

I didn’t get the peanut very much, but I like the way this tea was overall. I think I caught a touch of nuttiness, and the faint lapsang souchong was just right. I want to try a longer steep tomorrow at work, with a touch of sugar, which may move it from health food store nut butter to Kraft PB goodness!

Mt. Wu Dong Mi Lan (Honey Orchid) Dan Cong from Life In Teacup
83

Beautiful oolong. Deep oxidation. Large leaves. Rinse smells sweet and slightly floral. First infusion is a pretty pale amber with a rich honey and pitted fruit scent. The liqour is heavy and pleasing. Second infusion brings out a bit of the orchid tones as well, and the honey sweet carries through.

Finally, a few hours later, I do a third infusion over ice. This is really nice! Not even my usual 1/4 tsp of sugar needed.

Great tea, as usual gingko!

Green Kiss from Life In Teacup
99

nom nom nom. This is great white chocolate. The green tea taste is really pleasant, and the cocoa butter fresh, not at all off (I find such soft white chocolates go off easily – but this one was very fresh and tastey!). I’m defniitely going to get more next time I order from Life in Teacup – but it will be a while, given my rather large order!

Cucumber Fusion from 52teas
82

You have to taste this tea. I had it iced tonight and OMG it was great. A reallynice balance of green and oolong (just barely sweet – a dash of astringency but not at all bitter). Refreshing, subtle, but definitely there cucumber. Awesome. I’m going for a second steep, hot, in a minute

TM70: Mist Valley Estate SFTGFOP1 Tippy from Upton Tea Imports
77

Iced tea #2 tonight. Very different then the Assam I just had. Very much like the hot version of this tea, only iced. Genius, I know. But the Assam was more different iced than hot. This one keeps its character more stable. I’m upping the rating as well…definitely not as low as I originally rated it.

Season's pick Assam FTGFOP from Upton Tea Imports
81

I’m having this iced tonight. Its bold flavors hold up well to the brisk cool temperature. I can taste the chocolate maltiness, with a touch of sweetness from the 1/4 tsp of sugar I added, bringing out the flavors nicely. I liked this tea hot, and like it even better iced!

Jun Chiyabari Estate Nepal Tea from Upton Tea Imports
84

This was an exceptional cup. Light, fruity, fresh, with some floral overtones. Light yellow liqour. Really pleasant. I may have to buy a tin of this.

China Keemun First Grade zk11 from Upton Tea Imports
83

Definitely smokey, earthy and yet still light. I’ll have to see if the lightness holds with a second cup and bait more leaves, but I like it very much. Complex but not in a heavy way. Definitely some fresh tobacco notes, mild astringency. Overall, a sound, very pleasant cup of tea. I’d drink this again quite happily.

Yunnan Green Silver Buds Supreme from Upton Tea Imports
76

Wonderful. A pale green liquor. Subtle, fruity, fresh, slightly grassy without any astringency. Soothing, warming, and refreshing. I could drink this all day.

Imperial Golden Monkey ZP85 from Upton Tea Imports
86

Very rich, deep cup. Several layers of taste, somewhat sweet, a bit malty, nice ripe fruit undertones (peach? apricot?) I really like this tea.

TM70: Mist Valley Estate SFTGFOP1 Tippy from Upton Tea Imports
77

Lovely tea. The first I’m trying from Upton.

Light burnt umber liquor. Lightly floral, slightly earthy. Very smooth and gently on the palate. A nice, light, balanced black.

Blueberry Amore from Teaopia
42

I’m way too picky. This one is a bit soapy. I can’t put my finger on it – the rosebuds maybe? The green tea base is also not very present, and I have come to realize I like a strong tea base with subtle additions. The smell is enticing, though…so it may be good for aromatherapy.

I may have to seriously narrow where I shop from. I was in the mall tonight and thought I’d pick up a “treat”. Really, not so much. I might have over steeped it, so I will give it a try again tomorrow.

Jinjaa Citrus Twist from Teavana
50

This was actually a nice tea. I wasn’t expecting it to be – teavana just doesn’t do tea the way I like (or I have chosen poorly).

The green tea was barely present, but the citrus and ginger was vibrantly so. Although the smell was almost too citrusy, the taste was quite acceptable. If you are looking for a strongly flavored cup, this one’s for you.

Oriental Beauty Bai Hao Oolong Superior Grade from Life In Teacup
64

I was boiling water for black tea, then changed my mind. I have to write the methods of a systematic review…and Oriental Beauty caught my eye.

So, steeped in an atypical teapot in somewhat too hot water.

This is a nice, light floral bai hao oolong. The liquor is amber brown and enticing. While floral dominates the smell, on tasting there are layers as well of something slightly smokey or nutty, I can’t figure out which one (and I just had an oatmeal cookie, which doesn’t help). Overall, a nice solid tea, not a top favorite but I think that is me, and not the tea.

Lemon Ginger Black Tea from Bulk Barn
29

Backlogging.

Ugh. There is something in this tea that is unnatural. I was hoping that it might be okay as a black for iced tea, but no, no it’s not.

The black tea is unremarkable and barely present. The lemon tastes fake and leaves a cleaner aftertaste in my mouth.

At least it didn’t cost much!
