drank Sparrow's Tongue by Teaurchin

A sample of this tea was in my Christmas present from sweet Marzipan :D

The only other Sparrow’s Tongue I’ve had was a tightly rolled very green version. Totally different from this! This one is all creamy and roasty and has a pleasant mineral finish. Extremely faint glimpses of floral notes peek through occasionally. Generally I prefer greener oolongs but this is a nice change for me.

I got one of these for Christmas in the cutest, tiniest box imaginable! Isn’t it adorable? http://instagram.com/p/w-Q8STRh4u/?modal=true

So yesterday afternoon I had a lovely session with this tea http://instagram.com/p/xPipVdRhz1/?modal=true

The leaves were dark and glossy http://instagram.com/p/xPiz0kxh0L/?modal=true

For a somewhat woody tasting shou I had a really nice time drinking this. It was clean with some sweetness and no funk. Very nice :)

that’s great!

I have this tea but haven’t yet gotten around to trying it. Glad you liked it. Puerhshop is my favorite US vendor for Puerh it many ways. The have the best selection and service although you could argue that Mandala has better teas, at least it theory.

Thanks for the sample CameronB it looks like it originally came from Dexter so thanks to you too!

I am finding the sweet floral oolong pleasing with the candylike grape flavors today. Normally I wouldn’t go for candy-ish flavored teas! Not sure what my deal is today but I am enjoying this, so yay :)

Cameron B.

You should try Ripe Mango and Momo Super Grade too, same base. :D

Oh nice, I enjoyed the regular Momo! Both sound good!

Cameron B.

I’m sure you would enjoy the Momo Oolong Super Grade, it was a bit too much floral for me. :P

Thanks for the sample Cameron B and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I was trying this tea while in Steepster Chat and discussing it with Roswell Strange. At first I just got some non-descript fruit flavor from it…melon or lychee maybe? And then Roswell said she tasted peach and now its 100% peach for me. The power of suggestion! haha!

There is also a mild peppery note that sets this apart from other peachy black teas :)

I really appreciated cookies giving me a sample of this tea!

I have been very curious to try Camellia flowers. Mostly this tastes like white tea to me. Hay-like and a little sweet. The liquor has a very strange texture though, super thick and syrupy. Definitely interesting, but not something I’d buy in the future.

Thanks for the sample Cameron B!

This is pleasing to me today. I learned I enjoy Lupicia black teas brewed at 200 degrees instead of boiling. Tastes like strawberry candy in a good way :)

Cameron B.

Ooh, I still need to try this one! And I always brew blacks at 200 degrees, I’m paranoid. :P

I have been doing the same. 200 for 3 minutes. Lupicia has the weirdest steeping suggestions. All greens at boiling?! Do they really drink it like that?!

Yeah, that’s whack.

Thank you for the sample cookies!

This is interesting…tart and a little sweet from the wine and earthy from the puerh. I preferred the 2nd cup I made which I lightly sweetened, which means this is not going on my shopping list even though I enjoyed it! (don’t like to sweeten my teas regularly)

Today I’m having 1.5 tsp Damn Fine Holiday Blend 2014 + 1.5 tsp Mandala Special Dark. Steep for 4 mins at boiling and repeat! Great stuff!

A well meaning coworker got me a cute little 6 sachet tin of this for Christmas. I am SO picky about earl grey and lavender usually tastes soapy to me :(

It wasn’t as bad as I expected, but definitely not something I enjoy.

The tin is really kind of cool though, it reminds me of one of those old cigarette cases. If I can get the scent out of it I may reuse the tin for on the go tea stash, since it would fit nicely in my purse.

Cameron B.

Ick lavender! At least the tin is cute, though. :)

Yeah…I feel bad for any random person in my life who thinks they can buy me some tea…to the layperson I’m a terrible tea snob :P

Terri HarpLady

Me too. Not a fan of the earl, and PLEASE don’t put bubble bath, I mean lavender, in my tea!

Terri HarpLady

Although it’s very nice in a bath :)

I usually hate the tea that other people buy me… :)

Aww, they tried.

I have some of those tins and they’re great for travel. Just the right size for a sample of loose leaf and some empty teabags. I’ve never had one pop open in my bag, but just in case I keep the leaf in a teeny tiny ziploc.

carol who

Try filling the tin with water and baking soda. Close. Shake. Soak. Rinse. Should get rid of the lavender smell.

Thanks for the tips Carol Who and Kaylee :)

And yes, lavender is great in the bath…just don’t want to drink it. Glad I am not the only picky one ;)

Yeah, when people ask me what kind of tea I like to try to buy me some as a gift, I usually thwart them by saying that I have way too much already (which is actually true, too).

Graphic artist, printmaker, lover of tea.

I love pretty much every type of tea camellia sinensis can produce. I like herbal teas sometimes but I can’t stand rooibos. I’m recently becoming a puerh addict.

Butiki, Verdant, Mandala, TeaVivre, Yunnan Sourcing, TeaUrchin, White2Tea and Den’s are my favorite online retailers so far.
